There is no single monitor company that is best for everyone. The right choice depends on the specific model and whether you need a screen mainly for office work, gaming, or creative tasks. This five-brand shortlist is an editorial starting point—not a sales ranking or a claim that these companies outperform every competitor. To choose well, compare the model’s panel and features, make sure it suits your computer, and read the support terms for your region.
Five monitor companies worth comparing
RTINGS’ monitor-brand comparison, updated August 11, 2026, covers Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, LG, MSI, and Samsung. It cautions that no brand is better than all the others; results depend on the model. This guide selects five from that group to give shoppers a practical shortlist, not a definitive ranking. The available evidence does not establish a current market-share or sales ranking.
| Company | Why include it in your shortlist | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Acer | One of the manufacturers covered in RTINGS’ current brand comparison; worth checking across your intended use. | Compare the exact model’s image, motion, connectivity, and support details against alternatives. |
| ASUS | Included in the current comparison and among the established makers covered by the available buying-guide sources. | Decide whether the particular model’s panel and features fit your work, gaming, or creative needs. |
| Dell | RTINGS includes Dell in its comparison. Consumer Reports’ older buying guide describes Dell as offering a wide range of sizes and features; that guide is contextual, not a current product ranking. | Check the exact model and series terms, especially for pixel-defect coverage and warranty applicability. |
| LG | Included in the current brand comparison and publishes guidance on monitor panel technologies and computer compatibility. | Compare the panel technology and ensure your computer can support the display’s intended use and features. |
| Samsung | Included in the current comparison and provides a monitor buying guide for shoppers considering its products. | Evaluate the specific model’s capabilities and current local support terms rather than assuming they apply across the brand. |
This selection is not a claim that Gigabyte or MSI are inferior; both appear in RTINGS’ comparison and may suit particular needs. The comparison does not establish a stable, manufacturer-wide service-quality ranking or a complete model scorecard.
Start with what you will use the monitor for
Write down the primary task before comparing brands. A screen chosen for everyday productivity may have different priorities from one used for fast-paced gaming or color-focused creative work. There is no universal winner across these categories, so use reviews of the exact models you are considering rather than relying on company names alone.

- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
- Office and productivity: Focus on a comfortable image for your work and the connections and capabilities your computer needs.
- Gaming: Compare the model’s motion-related performance and whether your computer can make practical use of its features.
- Creative work: Give careful attention to the panel’s color behavior and viewing characteristics, then confirm the model fits your workflow.
Compare panel technology and image priorities
Panel choice affects color, viewing angles, contrast, and response time. LG’s monitor buying guide discusses OLED, IPS, TN, and VA as common technologies. Treat these as options to assess against your priorities, not as a simple brand-level quality ranking: the panel in the specific model matters.
- If color and viewing angles are important, check how the model performs on those measures.
- If contrast matters most, compare the panel and model’s demonstrated image performance.
- If motion and response time matter, look for model-specific testing rather than assuming the company name predicts the result.
Manufacturer descriptions can help identify a panel type, but model-specific reviews are more useful for judging real performance. The available sources do not provide comparable scores for the five companies’ products.
Rank #2

- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
Make sure the monitor fits your computer
Before choosing a display, check the computer it will connect to. LG recommends considering the computer’s CPU and GPU when selecting a monitor. Confirm that your system supports the monitor’s intended use and features, and check the connections required by both devices. A monitor’s advertised capabilities are only useful if your computer can support them in your setup.
- Identify the monitor’s intended use and the features you actually need.
- Check your computer’s CPU and GPU against that use and those features.
- Confirm that the monitor and computer have compatible inputs and connections for your setup.
- Review a model-specific assessment before choosing between similarly positioned options.
Read the exact warranty and pixel-defect terms
Do not assume that a company-wide policy applies identically to every display. Dell’s Display Pixel Guidelines illustrate that applicability can depend on the series. Before buying, find the policy and warranty terms for the exact model or series and the sales region where you will purchase it. Check what the policy says about pixel defects and what support coverage applies; the Dell example is not evidence of the terms offered by other manufacturers.
Rank #3
- Clear visuals. Fluid motion: A 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms MPRT deliver smooth, tear‑free motion across work, gaming, and streaming for clearer, more fluid viewing.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star* certification reduces harmful blue light while preserving stunning color quality without compromise. *TÜV Rheinland 3-star eye comfort certification.
- Wide viewing angle: Get consistent views across a wide 178° /178° viewing angle.
- In-Plane Switching (IPS): See excellent color accuracy and consistency across wide viewing angles with In-plane Switching (IPS) technology.
- Ultra-thin bezels: Maximize your viewing experience with thin bezels.
Use the shortlist without treating it as a ranking
Once you know your use case, compare individual models from the companies that appear to fit. Keep the evaluation consistent: assess image and motion needs, panel technology, computer compatibility, and local support terms for each candidate. Check current availability and terms where you live, since product lines and policies can change. Other manufacturers also belong in the wider market: Consumer Reports’ approximately 2022 guide lists names including Alienware, AOC, BenQ, and ViewSonic, alongside several companies in this shortlist. That older guide is evidence of a broader field, not a current ranking.
