Some games make comedy part of the rules: wrecking things earns points, a goose gets a button just for honking, and cleaning becomes a slow, equipment-driven career. These five examples show how different mechanics create funny play through slapstick physics, mischief, absurd scale, cooperative chaos, or calm repetition.
What makes a video game mechanic funny?
A funny mechanic is more than a silly premise. It gives the player a repeatable action and makes the result amusing through the game’s rules: destruction becomes a stunt, an everyday object becomes part of a growing ball, or a mundane job is treated with surprising seriousness. The examples below focus on what players do and what the game asks or rewards them for doing.

Katamari Damacy REROLL: make the ball bigger by collecting the world
Katamari Damacy REROLL centers on rolling a ball around and collecting objects so it grows. Bandai Namco describes its controls as analog-stick-only. The Prince is tasked with restoring the stars after the King destroys them, giving this steadily expanding pile of ordinary things a cosmic purpose.
The joke is built into the repeated action: everyday objects become material for a ball that keeps growing, while the story treats the task as part of a grand celestial repair job.

Untitled Goose Game: honking is an actual tool
Untitled Goose Game is a slapstick-stealth sandbox in which players control a goose, steal hats, and set pranks. Nintendo highlights the dedicated honk button, making the goose’s noise a deliberate player action rather than incidental sound. Mischief is the objective, so a honk or stolen hat can be part of carrying out a plan.
The game also supports two-player co-op. Nintendo’s FAQ specifies that co-op is local and requires two controllers, letting a pair of players plan pranks together.

Goat Simulator 3: environmental trouble with friends
Goat Simulator 3 makes its chaos a group activity: its official site describes four-player local or online co-op and seven multiplayer minigames. It also calls out interactions involving fire, electricity, and alien goo. Those details support a different comic loop from the original Goat Simulator: the focus here is on shared, escalating havoc rather than treating one goat’s scored destruction as the whole mechanic.

Its humor is not an explicitly stated joke from the developer. Instead, it comes from the contrast: a very ordinary task gets the structure and attention of a complete game loop, with equipment selection and deliberate cleaning taking the place of a conventional score chase.
