Several Galaxy tablets can handle Chromebook-style work, but none is a guaranteed one-for-one replacement. Your choice depends on whether the Android versions of your essential apps, browser tools, file workflows, and peripherals meet your needs. Samsung’s current U.S. comparison page includes five candidates, ranging from an 11-inch tablet to 14.6-inch models; each supports a different balance of workspace and portability.
Which Galaxy tablets are worth considering?
Samsung’s U.S. comparison page, current when accessed on October 7, 2026, lists the five models below. The display sizes and types are Samsung’s specifications; they do not establish a performance ranking. Availability and specifications can change.

Samsung lists display specifications in its U.S. tablet comparison. The screen sizes help distinguish these choices, but the available information does not establish which tablet is fastest, lasts longest on a charge, or is best overall.

What makes a Galaxy tablet work like a laptop?
Use DeX on the tablet
DeX provides a desktop-style interface on supported Galaxy tablets, including the ability to open applications in pop-up windows. Samsung lists the Tab S11 and S12 families among tablets compatible with DeX over supported wired connections and with wireless DeX. The connection method and external-display compatibility depend on the model.

Some workspace controls have software requirements: Samsung says starting standalone DeX from the Home screen and creating multiple desktop workspaces require Android 16 with One UI 8.0 or later. Add a keyboard cover
Samsung describes pairing a tablet with a Book Cover Keyboard for DeX, using the cover’s keyboard and touchpad for laptop-style input. This can avoid the need for a separate mouse, but the cover is an additional purchase and fit is model-specific. Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. Business MSRP list names keyboard covers for the Tab S11, S11 Ultra, and S10+ families. Those are dated suggested prices, not a guarantee of current retail pricing; confirm the exact tablet model and cover SKU before buying.

Samsung’s keyboard and DeX guidance explains the setup. Its March 2026 accessory MSRP list warns that prices may change without notice. The S10+ family listing also references other models, so do not assume a cover is interchangeable based on family names alone.

Know what DeX does not do
DeX for PC is not available on Galaxy tablets. Tablet DeX runs on the tablet or, where supported, connects it to a compatible external screen; it is not a DeX window running inside a Windows or Mac computer. Samsung also notes that external-display support varies by model and connection type. Its external display and DeX support page identifies the Tab S10 FE and S9 FE families as lacking HDMI output and wireless DeX. Those exclusions concern cheaper near-alternatives, not the five models in this guide.

How to decide whether one can replace your Chromebook
Start with the work you actually need to do, not the tablet’s screen size or the presence of DeX. Samsung’s support material describes tablet features and accessories; it does not establish that every Chromebook app or workflow works the same way on Android.
- List your essential apps and services. Check that each app or web service is available and usable on Android. For browser-based work, verify required extensions, account sign-ins, and site features in the browser you plan to use.
- Test your file workflow. Identify where files are stored, how you share them, and whether the Android apps you depend on can open, edit, and export the formats you use.
- Check peripherals and connections. Confirm that the tablet supports the wired or wireless display setup you need, then verify compatibility for any other essential accessories.
- Choose a screen size for your work and travel. The listed displays range from 11 to 14.6 inches. Consider how much workspace you need alongside how often you will carry or use the tablet away from a desk.
- Confirm the keyboard-cover model and total cost. Find the cover for the exact tablet SKU and treat its price as an additional expense. Do not assume a cover listed for a related model will fit.
- Check your software version. If you plan to use multiple desktop workspaces or launch standalone DeX from the Home screen, verify that the tablet has Android 16 with One UI 8.0 or later.
If a required app or workflow depends on a Chromebook-specific feature, verify a workable Android alternative before switching. A desktop-style interface can make a tablet more comfortable for keyboard-and-pointer work, but it does not establish application compatibility.

Which model should you choose?
- Choose the Tab S12 Ultra or S11 Ultra if a 14.6-inch screen is your priority and you are comfortable with a large tablet workspace.
- Consider the Tab S12+ if you want a listed 12.6-inch display rather than the largest option.
- Consider the Tab S10+ if its 12.4-inch display better suits your preferred middle-size screen, after confirming keyboard-cover fit.
- Consider the Tab S11 if a smaller, 11-inch display is more practical for you and still gives enough room for your work.
