Five electric vehicles in iSeeCars’ 2026 ranking averaged more than 50% depreciation over five years: the Nissan LEAF, Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Model S, Tesla Model X and Ford Mustang Mach-E. The LEAF had the steepest percentage decline, at 63.1%; the Model X had the largest average dollar difference from its original MSRP among the five, at $61,216. These are modeled averages from a U.S. used-car dataset—not guaranteed resale values for individual cars.
Which five EVs depreciated the most?
The following are the five highest-depreciating EV models in iSeeCars’ 2026 EV ranking, ordered by percentage of value lost. The ranking compares modeled average five-year depreciation; it is not the study’s list of the five worst-depreciating vehicles of all types.

All figures are from iSeeCars’ 2026 study, which compared average asking prices for five-year-old used cars with inflation-adjusted MSRP. Dollar differences are averages, not estimates of what a specific vehicle will sell for.

Depreciation percentage measures the share of a vehicle’s value lost; the dollar difference measures the amount. Those rankings need not match. The LEAF tops this list by percentage, while the Model X has the largest average dollar difference from MSRP. A higher-priced model can lose more dollars even when its percentage decline is lower.

How the EV figures compare with other segments
In the same 2026 study, average five-year depreciation was 57.2% for EVs, 41.8% across all vehicles, and 35.4% for hybrids. The EV average was also not fixed across study years: iSeeCars reported 58.8% in 2025 and 49.1% in 2023. These differences underscore that depreciation estimates depend on the market period and the vehicles included in the sample.
How iSeeCars calculated five-year depreciation
iSeeCars analyzed more than 950,000 five-year-old used cars sold from March 2025 through February 2026. It compared average asking prices with MSRP, adjusted MSRP to 2026 dollars using U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, and mathematically modeled depreciation from the price difference. The analysis excluded heavy-duty trucks and vans, models no longer produced as of model year 2025, and low-volume models.

The resulting percentages describe modeled averages in that U.S. dataset. They do not guarantee a resale price or predict the value of a particular car. Mileage, condition, equipment, location and the transaction date can all matter when assessing an individual vehicle; the study’s model-level averages do not determine any one vehicle’s value.
What the ranking does—and does not—say about EV values
The figures establish that these five models averaged more than 50% five-year depreciation in this study. They do not, by themselves, identify a single cause for those declines or show that every example lost value at the same rate. iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer interpreted the change in five-year depreciation rates as reflecting “rising used car demand and/or insufficient supply over the past 12 months.” That is his interpretation of the trend, not a cause isolated by the depreciation calculation.

For a buyer or owner evaluating a specific used EV, use the ranking as market context rather than a valuation. Compare vehicles with similar model year, mileage, condition and equipment, and distinguish a model-wide average from the asking price or offer for the individual car.
