For an inexpensive PC mouse, start with the job: the Logitech M170 is a basic wireless choice for everyday use, while the Razer DeathAdder Essential is a wired, right-handed option for entry-level gaming. These are not five independently tested picks: the available product information supports two recommendations and one alternative whose current details need checking. Prices below are US manufacturer-site prices observed on October 7, 2026, not Amazon quotes; check the exact model and live price before buying.
How these budget mouse recommendations are scoped
Here, “cheap” means a mouse priced around US$30 or less on the US manufacturer shop pages checked October 7, 2026. That is a practical reference point, not a guarantee of current pricing or availability. The examples serve different needs, so they are not ranked as interchangeable choices. Manufacturer specifications and prices are identified as such; the DeathAdder’s fit observations come from an independent review. No hands-on testing is claimed.

Best for basic everyday use: Logitech M170/M171
The M170 family is the straightforward option when you want an inexpensive, compact mouse for everyday pointer work rather than gaming features. It connects through a small USB receiver using 2.4 GHz wireless; Logitech Support says the family does not support Bluetooth. That distinction matters if your laptop has no available USB-A port and you do not want to use an adapter.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesLogitech lists a wireless range of up to 10 meters and battery life of up to 12 months for the M170/M171 family. Both are manufacturer estimates, not results from independent testing, and battery life depends on use and conditions. The family’s listed 1,000 DPI is a basic sensitivity specification, not a measure of overall quality. Logitech’s M170 product page and support specifications also show why checking the bottom label and regional listing is prudent: the product-page copy uses both M170 and M171 names.

Best for budget wired gaming: Razer DeathAdder Essential
The DeathAdder Essential makes more sense for PC gaming than for a travel kit: it is wired, and Razer lists five buttons and a 6,400 DPI optical sensor. The DPI figure describes a sensor setting range; it does not by itself establish accuracy, comfort, or superiority over another mouse. If you specifically need wireless portability, this model does not answer that need.
RTINGS describes the mouse as a right-handed, larger-shaped model with a high back that may suit larger hands using palm or claw grip. Its review notes feature compromises, including no CPI buttons below the scroll wheel and green lighting rather than customizable RGB. Those are review findings, not claims based on hands-on testing for this article. Read RTINGS’ assessment alongside Razer’s specifications.

Is the Logitech M185 worth considering?
The M185 is a possible compact wireless alternative for laptop use, but the available official page information confirms its product name and intended compact wireless role without establishing dependable current specifications or a price. Treat it as a model to check, not a fully evaluated recommendation: confirm the connection type, exact variant, and current price on the listing in your country before buying. What to check before choosing a cheap PC mouse
- Connection: A USB receiver, Bluetooth, and a cable solve different problems. Check your PC’s ports and whether you need to pair without a receiver.
- Fit and handedness: Consider hand size, left- or right-handed use, and whether you naturally hold a mouse with a palm, claw, or fingertip grip. Shape can matter more than a large DPI number.
- Controls: Count the buttons you will actually use. Extra side buttons can help in games or shortcuts, while a basic pointer task may not need them. Check for a dedicated sensitivity button if changing DPI on the fly matters.
- Power: A replaceable AA battery is easy to swap but adds an ongoing battery cost. Confirm whether a wireless model includes a battery and how it is powered.
- Exact model and price: Regional naming and bundles can differ. Compare the model identifier, seller, currency, and current price; manufacturer-shop prices can change and do not establish marketplace pricing.
