If a “cool” dashboard means a memorable factory display rather than a generic tablet bolted to the console, five production cars stand out for different reasons: the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, Porsche Taycan, BMW iX and BMW i4. Mercedes uses a broad, multi-zone glass panel; Porsche emphasizes a curved driver display with an optional passenger screen; BMW integrates information and controls in a driver-oriented curved unit.
This is a design shortlist, not a measured ranking. The specifications below come primarily from automaker material, and equipment can change by model year, market and trim. Check the configuration for the exact car you are considering before treating any display as standard.
What makes these five dashboards distinctive?
Dashboard appeal is subjective, but the designs fall into three clear approaches. Mercedes-Benz creates a wall-to-wall visual centerpiece with the MBUX Hyperscreen. Porsche gives the driver a curved instrument cluster and offers a separate front-passenger display. BMW combines driver information and controls in one curved display assembly, with software intended to place each type of information where it is most useful.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThose approaches answer different needs. A passenger screen is valuable when a front passenger wants navigation or entertainment without taking over the driver’s display. A driver-angled layout can make the instrument area easier to read at a glance, although the manufacturer’s description is not an independent safety test. A huge glass surface delivers the strongest visual impact, but it can also make the exact equipment list more important: a vehicle may have a large central screen without having the full named Hyperscreen package.

Quick comparison of the five dashboard displays
| Car and reference | Display arrangement | Named dimensions or features | Passenger participation | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan | Three display zones under one curved glass panel | MBUX Hyperscreen described as a 56-inch curved glass instrument panel; a current U.S. model page separately lists a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 17.7-inch OLED central display | Dedicated passenger display in Hyperscreen configurations | Configuration depends on vehicle version; do not assume every EQS has Hyperscreen |
| Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV (2025 U.S. example) | Wide, multi-zone Hyperscreen concept | 12.3-inch driver display and 17.7-inch central display listed with the Hyperscreen | Passenger display included in the three-zone concept | Figures and equipment refer to the 2025 U.S. model information; other markets and years may differ |
| Porsche Taycan | Curved driver instrument display, with an optional separate passenger touchscreen | 16.8-inch curved instrument cluster | Optional front-passenger touch display | Passenger screen availability depends on model year, market and option selection |
| BMW iX | One curved unit combining information and control areas, angled toward the driver | 12.3-inch information display plus 14.9-inch control display; anti-reflective glass | No separate passenger display identified in the cited description | BMW’s figures come from its iDrive design material; verify equipment on the specific iX |
| BMW i4 (2025 U.S. release) | Curved Display with touch and voice interaction | QuickSelect, voice control, and on-screen controls for climate and seat/steering-wheel heating | Passenger interaction is through the shared display rather than a separately cited passenger panel | The cited feature description is for the 2025 U.S. release; later or different-market cars can vary |
1. Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan: the wall-to-wall Hyperscreen
The EQS sedan is the clearest example of a dashboard designed to be a visual event. Mercedes-Benz describes the MBUX Hyperscreen as a 56-inch curved glass instrument panel that combines three displays: a driver display, a central display and a passenger display. Instead of looking like three unrelated monitors, the glass surface presents them as one continuous sweep across the dashboard.
How the three zones work
- Driver display: The instrument area is in front of the steering wheel, where speed, range and other driving information can be presented.
- Central display: The middle zone handles multimedia, navigation, vehicle settings and other shared functions.
- Passenger display: The right-hand screen gives the front passenger a dedicated interface in vehicles equipped with the full concept.
Mercedes-Benz’s current U.S. EQS model material also lists a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 17.7-inch OLED central multimedia display. Those figures illustrate why buyers should read the exact equipment list rather than infer that every EQS has the 56-inch Hyperscreen. The sedan name alone does not establish the display configuration.
Why it looks cool
The EQS treats the dashboard as architecture: one curved sheet of glass, minimal visual breaks and three zones that can show different content at once. Mercedes-Benz executive Sajjad Khan described the Hyperscreen as “both the brain and nervous system of the car.” That is the company’s characterization, not an independent technical finding, but it captures the design ambition: the screen is intended to be the car’s central interface rather than an accessory added to a conventional instrument panel.
What to verify before buying
- Confirm whether the vehicle has the MBUX Hyperscreen or the separate driver and center displays listed for another configuration.
- Check the model year and market, because screen hardware, software and available packages can change.
- Ask whether the passenger display is active and what restrictions apply while the car is moving in your market.
2. Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV: the same spectacle in a taller body
The EQS SUV carries Mercedes-Benz’s multi-zone screen idea into a high-riding utility vehicle. Mercedes-Benz’s 2025 U.S. EQS SUV page lists the Hyperscreen and gives a 12.3-inch driver display and 17.7-inch central display. In the three-zone arrangement, the passenger receives the same kind of dedicated screen that distinguishes the sedan’s Hyperscreen from a conventional two-screen dashboard.
How the SUV differs as a dashboard choice
The underlying interface concept is closely related to the EQS sedan, so the SUV is best understood as the body-style alternative for shoppers who want the wide Mercedes display treatment with SUV seating and cargo packaging. The broad panel creates a strong first impression for occupants in both rows, while the separate zones let the driver, center console and passenger handle different information.

Model-year and equipment caution
The dimensions above are tied to Mercedes-Benz’s 2025 U.S. model information. They should not be generalized to every EQS SUV sold elsewhere or to every production year. A dealer listing may use “EQS SUV” as a model name while omitting or changing the screen package, so request the original build sheet or the manufacturer’s configuration details.
3. Porsche Taycan: a curved driver display with a passenger option
Porsche takes a more driver-centered approach in the Taycan. Porsche describes the instrument cluster as a curved 16.8-inch screen. Its sweep follows the driver’s line of sight and gives the instrument binnacle a distinctive shape without turning the entire dashboard into one continuous panel.

Standard driver information
The curved cluster is the Taycan’s defining display element in the cited Porsche description. It provides the instrument area directly ahead of the driver, while other vehicle functions are handled through the rest of the cockpit’s controls and screens. The curved form is a visual signature as much as a dimensional specification: it makes the display look integrated into the arc of the dashboard rather than mounted as a flat rectangle.
Optional front-passenger screen
Porsche also describes an optional front-passenger touch display. That distinction matters. The passenger screen is not automatically included simply because a Taycan has the 16.8-inch curved instrument cluster. Availability depends on the model year, market and selected equipment, so treat it as an option to verify rather than standard hardware.
Who will prefer this layout?
The Taycan suits drivers who want the instrument display to remain the visual priority while still having the possibility of a dedicated passenger interface. Compared with the Mercedes concept, it is less about covering the entire dashboard in glass and more about shaping the driver’s primary display, then adding passenger participation when the specification allows it.

4. BMW iX: a driver-angled Curved Display built around information roles
BMW’s iX uses one display assembly to combine a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. BMW describes the unit as angled toward the driver, with anti-reflective glass and a floating appearance that makes the screen seem to hover above the dashboard.

Information and controls in one unit
The iX arrangement is not simply two unrelated screens placed side by side. The information display presents driver-focused data, while the control display handles interaction with navigation, media, climate and vehicle settings. Bringing both into one curved assembly gives the dashboard a continuous shape while retaining a functional division between seeing information and operating the car.
BMW’s “Act, Locate and Inform” idea
BMW’s iDrive material describes an information-distribution approach called “Act, Locate and Inform.” In practical terms, the system assigns immediate prompts and actions to the areas where the driver needs them, provides location detail for navigation and presents broader map context elsewhere. BMW uses the phrase to explain its interface design; it is not a standardized usability score or an independent safety certification.
Why the iX feels different from the Mercedes approach
The iX is wide and visually prominent, but its emphasis is driver orientation rather than a three-person dashboard theater. The cited description does not identify a separate passenger display. A shopper who wants a screen specifically for a front passenger should therefore compare the iX’s equipment list with vehicles that explicitly offer one.
5. BMW i4: Curved Display with touch, voice and QuickSelect
BMW’s 2025 U.S. i4 release presents the Curved Display as the center of a digital control strategy that combines touch and voice interaction. It also highlights QuickSelect, a way to reach frequently used functions more directly instead of stepping through multiple menu layers.

Controls beyond entertainment
The i4 description specifically includes climate functions and seat and steering-wheel heating controls on the display or through voice commands. That makes the screen more than a navigation and audio panel: it becomes the place where comfort settings are adjusted. Voice control can reduce the need to tap through menus, while touch remains available for drivers who prefer direct selection.
What QuickSelect changes
QuickSelect is intended to shorten the path to common functions. The benefit is conceptual rather than a measured time advantage in the supplied material, so do not treat it as proof that the i4 is faster or safer than another car. Its significance is that BMW is trying to organize digital controls around frequent tasks instead of presenting every feature at the same level.
Check the exact i4 year
The feature description cited here is from BMW’s 2025 U.S. model release. A used i4 from an earlier year, or an i4 sold in another market, may have different software, screen equipment or control availability. Verify the vehicle identification number, build sheet and current software features before assuming that every i4 includes the same Curved Display functions.

Best visual centerpiece
The Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan and EQS SUV make the strongest visual statement because the Hyperscreen spans the dashboard and merges three display zones under curved glass. The SUV provides the same broad concept in a different body style, while the sedan is the lower, more limousine-like expression of it.

Best documented passenger-screen choice
The Mercedes Hyperscreen explicitly includes a passenger display, and Porsche explicitly offers a front-passenger touch display as an option. Those are the clearest choices for buyers who want a screen dedicated to someone sitting beside the driver. Confirm availability and operating restrictions for the exact market and year.
Most interaction-focused description
BMW’s i4 material gives the clearest account of interaction methods: touch, voice, QuickSelect and on-screen or voice controls for climate and heating functions. That does not make it objectively superior, but it makes the control philosophy easy to understand from the manufacturer’s published description.
Do not confuse BMW Curved Display with Panoramic iDrive
BMW announced Panoramic iDrive in January 2025 as a newer direction. Its BMW Panoramic Vision concept projects information across the windshield, and BMW said the system was planned for introduction in Neue Klasse production vehicles from the end of 2025.
The Tool Desk

When a listing mentions “new iDrive,” check whether it means the established Curved Display or a specific Neue Klasse vehicle equipped with Panoramic Vision, and verify availability in your country.
A buyer’s checklist for dashboard displays
- Identify the exact model year. Screen hardware and software are updated during a model’s production run.
- Confirm the market and trim. U.S. equipment can differ from European, Asian or other regional specifications.
- Separate standard equipment from options. The Taycan passenger display is described as optional, and the EQS name does not by itself guarantee Hyperscreen.
- Ask for a build sheet. A listing photo may show a screen, but only the equipment record establishes which display package was installed.
- Check passenger-screen rules. Some systems limit video or other content while the vehicle is moving; the applicable behavior depends on local regulations and software.
- Test the controls you actually use. Try navigation, climate adjustment, voice recognition, seat heating and steering-wheel heating rather than judging only the screen’s appearance.
- Inspect reflections and reach. BMW specifically cites anti-reflective glass on the iX; a test drive lets you assess glare, viewing angle and reach for yourself.
Bottom line: which dashboard is coolest?
There is no defensible universal winner because “cool” describes different design goals. Choose the Mercedes-Benz EQS or EQS SUV if you want a broad, three-zone glass centerpiece and a dedicated passenger display in the relevant Hyperscreen configuration. Choose the Porsche Taycan if a curved driver instrument panel matters most and you want the option of adding a passenger touchscreen. Choose the BMW iX for a driver-angled information-and-control unit, or the BMW i4 if touch, voice and QuickSelect are the interaction details you value.
These conclusions describe the design concepts and specifications published by the manufacturers, not an independent head-to-head usability or safety ranking. Always verify the exact model year, market and equipment list before deciding which dashboard you are actually getting.
