The Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290 is the strongest all-around budget pick in this shortlist because it has independent review measurements for ink cost and speed. For a basic print/scan/copy machine, consider the HP Smart Tank 5101; for a printer-only setup, the HP Smart Tank 210 is an option if you accept its missing features. Epson’s EcoTank ET-1910 is a newly announced lower-entry candidate, but its current US price and independent performance are not established here. These are use-case picks, not results from a comparable five-printer test.
How to choose a budget ink tank printer
Tank printers replace small cartridges with refillable reservoirs and bottled ink. The trade-off is usually a higher initial purchase price for the possibility of lower ongoing ink costs. Whether that saves money depends on how much you print, what you print, and whether the printer sits unused for long periods. TechRadar advises considering both print volume and ongoing maintenance when choosing an inkjet printer (TechRadar).

Five budget ink tank printers to consider
| Model | Best for | What the evidence supports | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|

Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290: best-supported all-around pick
Tom’s Guide’s review testing measured about 0.4 cents per text page and 0.9 cents per color page for the G3290. These are review-derived estimates under that publication’s methodology, not Canon guarantees or a forecast of your own bill. In the same review, it printed a five-page text document at 9.2 pages per minute and two-sided text at 7.2 pages per minute. The review also noted slower mixed-color duplex work and scanning trade-offs, so the figures should not be read as universal performance (Tom’s Guide).
Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3270: check the live price
The G3270 appeared as a current alternative in TechRadar’s October 2026 deal coverage. That is a time-sensitive reference, not proof of today’s price or continuing promotion. Check the exact US model and its current listing before comparing it with the G3290 (TechRadar).

HP Smart Tank 5003: a basic all-in-one with modest handling
TechRadar’s October 2026 deal coverage describes the 5003 as a print/scan/copy model with a 100-sheet tray and modest speed. Treat the reported deal as expired unless a current listing confirms otherwise; a temporary discount should not be mistaken for the printer’s normal value (TechRadar).
HP Smart Tank 5101: straightforward student or home use
HP lists the 5101 as a print/scan/copy model, with up to 12 black pages per minute and advertised in-box yields of 6,000 black pages and 6,000 color pages. Those page counts are HP’s claims for the ink supplied in the box, not independently measured outcomes. HP’s comparison also shows that features vary within the Smart Tank range: it lists automatic two-sided printing for the 6001, and fax plus a 35-sheet automatic document feeder for the 651. Those distinctions matter if you regularly scan multi-page documents or send faxes (HP Smart Tank comparison).

Epson EcoTank ET-1910: promising entry price, not a verified cheapest
Epson’s 2026 announcement calls the ET-1910 its most affordable Supertank to date and describes USB, Wi-Fi, Epson Smart Panel support, and keyed bottle refilling for the newly announced models. Confirm the ET-1910’s own specification sheet before assuming every feature applies to this exact model. Epson’s cost and savings comparisons use US MSRP and replacement-bottle and standard-cartridge yields as of May 2026; that is the company’s comparison method, not an independent finding. The announcement does not establish a lasting retailer price or a real-world ranking (Epson announcement).
When a print-only tank makes more sense
The HP Smart Tank 210 is a possible alternative if you need only printing and are deliberately avoiding all-in-one features. TechRadar describes it as lacking a scanner, automatic duplex, Ethernet, a paper drawer, and a touchscreen. Those omissions may suit a simple print station, but they can become costly inconveniences if you later need to scan, copy, or print two-sided pages automatically (TechRadar).

What ink yields and low page costs do—and do not—tell you
Advertised yields describe a stated test basis, while real pages vary with coverage and the kind of work you print. HP’s comparison lists the 5101 at 6,000 black and 6,000 color pages in-box; for comparison, HP lists the 6001 and 651 at 6,000 black and 8,000 color pages. These are model-specific HP claims, not independently verified yields for every household (HP Smart Tank comparison).
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Epson’s US product information says certain latest-generation models include ink for up to 6,600 color pages and 5,500 black pages. That broad claim should not be assigned to the ET-1910 without model-specific documentation (Epson EcoTank product page).
Even very low ink cost per page cannot settle the purchase decision by itself. Include the printer’s current price, the cost of replacement ink, your annual volume, needed functions, and the possibility that long unused periods may affect inkjet maintenance.
Quick Recap
Make the final comparison before buying
- Confirm the full US model number; similarly named regional versions may not be identical.
- Check current printer and replacement-bottle prices, plus bottle compatibility.
- Choose print-only or print/scan/copy deliberately; add fax or an automatic document feeder only if you need them.
- Check for automatic duplex if you print two-sided documents regularly.
- Use manufacturer yields as estimates, and keep review-measured ink costs separate from those claims.
- Account for your print volume and expected periods of non-use, not just the sticker price.
