The best budget drawing tablet depends first on whether you want a screen that connects to a computer or a standalone tablet that runs art apps. For a computer-based setup, Parka Blogs’ 2025 roundup recommends the Huion Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) among five pen displays listed at USD 209–299. For drawing away from a computer, the XPPen Magic Drawing Pad is a standalone Android option, but Creative Bloq lists it at USD 500 in the US—above a strict USD 300 budget.
Choose the kind of tablet you need
A pen display shows your drawing on its own screen but relies on a connected computer. A standalone tablet runs drawing apps itself, so it can be used away from a desk. Their prices and setups are not directly comparable: decide which workflow matters before choosing a model.
- Choose a pen display if you already have a compatible computer and want a dedicated drawing screen at a lower listed price.
- Choose a standalone tablet if mobility and running art apps without a computer are priorities, and your budget can accommodate the device.
Five pen displays listed in the USD 200–300 range
Parka Blogs’ 2025 roundup lists the following prices. They are dated listings, not guaranteed current prices or a uniform head-to-head test. Check local availability, current pricing, and exact bundle contents before buying.
| Model | Listed price | What the cited roundup establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Huion Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) | USD 229 | The roundup author recommends it in this group, citing pen performance, display brightness and color accuracy, hotkeys, dials, and matte glass. |
| XPPen Artist 13 (Gen 2) | USD 209 | Included in the roundup’s USD 200–300 candidate list; other comparative details are not established here. |
| XPPen Artist 16 (Gen 2) | USD 239 | Included in the roundup’s USD 200–300 candidate list; other comparative details are not established here. |
| XPPen Artist 15.6 Pro V2 | USD 279 | Included in the roundup’s USD 200–300 candidate list; other comparative details are not established here. |
| Wacom One 14 | USD 299 | Included in the roundup’s USD 200–300 candidate list. The roundup author says they had not tested it. |
For a recommendation grounded in the cited roundup, the Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) is the clearest pick: it is the model the author recommends and the cited reasons include both screen and control features. That is the roundup author’s assessment, not a claim of personal testing here. The roundup does not establish a shared test comparison for all five models.

What to check before buying
- Workflow and compatibility: Confirm whether the model needs a computer or runs art apps itself. For a pen display, check compatibility with your computer and preferred drawing software.
- Usable drawing space: Compare the active drawing area, not just the screen’s diagonal. A larger panel can give more room, but can also make a device less convenient to carry.
- Screen and controls: Consider resolution, brightness, color, surface feel, and whether shortcut keys or dials suit how you work. The cited review’s favorable comments on these points apply specifically to the Kamvas 13 (Gen 3).
- Pen and package: Verify that a stylus is included and check supported pen functions, replacement nib availability, cables, stand, and power requirements on the manufacturer’s current product page. The cited roundup does not establish all these package details for each candidate.
- Total local cost: Recheck current prices in your country and account for any necessary accessories. The listed pen-display prices come from a 2025 roundup; they may no longer reflect current offers.
How to narrow the shortlist
- Set a budget and region. Decide the maximum you will spend and check prices in your local currency rather than treating older USD listings as current.
- Pick the workflow. Rule out computer-dependent displays if you need to draw without a computer, and rule out higher-priced standalone options if your ceiling is firm.
- Compare fit, not just price. Look at drawing area, screen qualities, controls, portability, and included pen and accessories for the exact model generation.
- Verify the listing. Confirm the product name, generation, availability, specifications, and box contents with the manufacturer and seller before ordering.
XPPen’s official page confirms that the Artist 12 3rd is a 12-inch drawing tablet with a screen, but the cited page information does not reliably establish additional specifications. It is therefore not included in the five-model price comparison above.
