The best 4K TV under $1,000 depends on the screen size you need, how bright your room is, where people sit, and whether you watch films or play games. For dark-room picture quality, look for the 55-inch LG B5 OLED when a current price places it below the limit. For a bright room and 65-inch gaming, the Hisense U7SG is the stronger fit. The TCL QM6K is a practical route to a 75-inch screen, while the Hisense QD6QF reaches 85 inches or more at the lowest cost, with clear compromises.

Prices and availability change quickly. The figures below are dated 2026 snapshots, not permanent prices, so confirm the exact model, screen size and checkout total before buying.

Quick picks: which 4K TV under $1,000 fits your situation?

Best for Model What you get Main compromise
Dark-room films and overall picture quality LG B5 OLED, 55-inch when under budget OLED black levels, Dolby Vision, VRR, four HDMI 2.1 ports and 4K at 120Hz The 55-inch price is sale-dependent; larger OLED sizes can exceed $1,000
Bright rooms and 65-inch gaming Hisense U7SG High brightness, matte coating, local dimming, broad VRR, up to 4K/165Hz and four HDMI 2.1 ports Narrow viewing angle and visible haloing around some bright objects
Largest practical screen near the limit TCL QM6K 55- to 98-inch sizes, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, VRR and 4K/144Hz Less bright and less refined than the U7SG; narrow viewing angle
Maximum size for the least money Hisense QD6QF Sizes up to 100 inches; the 85-inch version can regularly fall below $1,000 No local dimming, 60Hz native refresh and HDMI 2.0 limit HDR and high-refresh gaming

RTINGS’ picks were verified October 6, 2026, and its list weighs price, reader feedback and availability. Tom’s Guide, in a guide updated August 6, 2026, selected the Hisense U75QG as its overall choice and the Hisense QD7 as its under-$500 option. Different rankings are reasonable because testing priorities and price checks differ; use the specifications and trade-offs rather than treating one list as universal.

What “under $1,000” really means

A model line does not have one price. Screen size, retailer, clearance status and the day you shop determine whether a particular unit qualifies. In Tom’s Guide’s 2026 U7SG review snapshot, the 55-inch was listed at $699 on sale, the 65-inch at $899, and the 75-inch at $999. Those figures show why you must select the size first and then verify the live listing.

Promotions can also move newer or previous-year models into the range temporarily. An October 2026 Best Buy promotion listed a 55-inch Hisense U6SF Mini-LED at $449 and a 48-inch LG B6 OLED at $699. A deal like that may be attractive, but it is a dated promotion rather than a standing market price. Check the model-year suffix, return policy, delivery charge and whether the price requires a membership or other condition.

Choose by room and viewing position

Dark room or controlled lighting

OLED is the clearest choice when you watch films with the lights low. Each pixel can turn off, producing very deep blacks without the backlight haloing that can appear around subtitles or stars on a local-dimming LCD. The LG B5 is RTINGS’ best overall option under $1,000 when the 55-inch set is discounted into the budget. It combines Dolby Vision, variable refresh rate (VRR), four HDMI 2.1 inputs and 4K/120Hz support, so it also works for current consoles and a capable gaming PC.

The qualification is important: the B5 recommendation is size- and sale-dependent. A larger B5 can cost more than the cap, and OLED pricing changes as inventory clears. If the 55-inch price is above your limit, compare a discounted previous-year OLED or move to a local-dimming LCD rather than assuming the whole series is affordable.

Bright room, windows or daytime sports

High brightness and glare control matter more than perfect black levels when sunlight reaches the screen. The Hisense U7SG uses a Mini-LED backlight with local dimming and a matte coating. RTINGS highlights its brightness, while Tom’s Guide lists a 3,840 × 2,160 panel, native 165Hz refresh, Google TV, four HDMI 2.1 ports and Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG support.

The same design has limits. The U7SG’s viewing angle is narrow, so contrast and color fall off for seats far to the side. Local dimming can also produce halos around isolated bright objects. Aim the screen toward the main seats and keep expectations realistic if your room has a wide sofa layout.

Wide seating layouts

The listed VA/LCD choices—including the U7SG, QM6K and QD6QF—are strongest when viewers sit near the center. If several people watch from sharply different angles, prioritize a layout that keeps seats in front of the panel or consider an OLED when its price and size work. A large diagonal does not compensate for a washed-out picture from an off-axis seat.

Model-by-model guide

LG B5 OLED: the film-first 55-inch choice

Choose the B5 when black-level performance and cinematic contrast matter most and you can keep the price below $1,000. OLED avoids the blooming common to backlit screens, and Dolby Vision provides a dynamic HDR format for compatible films and shows. Four HDMI 2.1 ports make it easier to connect a console, gaming PC and soundbar without running out of high-bandwidth inputs. VRR and 4K/120Hz cover the frame rates used by current consoles.

  • Best match: a 55-inch screen in a dim or controllable room.
  • Gaming fit: strong, provided your console or PC can deliver 120 frames per second at 4K and you use an appropriate HDMI cable.
  • Watch-out: the under-$1,000 position applies to a discounted 55-inch unit, not automatically to every size or listing.

Hisense U7SG: bright-room and high-refresh specialist

The U7SG is the most balanced choice when the room is bright and gaming features matter. Its Mini-LED local dimming raises contrast over a basic edge-lit LCD, while the matte surface reduces reflections. RTINGS reports support for up to 4K/165Hz and broad VRR; Tom’s Guide reports four HDMI 2.1 ports and Google TV. That combination is useful for a PC that can exceed 120Hz as well as for 4K/120Hz consoles.

Price varies sharply by size. Tom’s Guide’s review snapshot lists $699 for 55 inches, $899 for 65 inches and $999 for 75 inches on sale in 2026. Treat each number as a dated observation. The larger the screen, the more important it is to verify that the specific listing—not merely the series name—remains under your ceiling.

  • Best match: daytime viewing, sports and gaming from seats close to the center.
  • Picture trade-off: bright highlights can show halos, and side seats lose contrast.
  • Audio note: the review information supplied for the U75QG, a related Hisense recommendation from Tom’s Guide, calls its audio middling; plan for a soundbar if built-in sound is a priority, and check the exact U7SG review before assuming the same behavior.

TCL QM6K: a sensible 75-inch-under-$1,000 route

The QM6K is the clearest answer to “What’s the best 75-inch TV under $1,000?” when the screen itself is the priority. RTINGS lists sizes from 55 to 98 inches and identifies it as a good budget choice, including a 75-inch option under the threshold. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, VRR and 4K/144Hz, with two HDMI 2.1 ports.

Compared with the U7SG, the QM6K is not as bright or colorful and its image processing is less refined. Its viewing angle is also narrow. Those differences are easier to notice in a sunlit room or from side seats than in a centered, moderately lit setup. Measure your wall and seating distance before choosing the largest diagonal; a 98-inch panel can dominate a room even when the price is attractive.

Hisense QD6QF: the lowest-cost path to 85 or 100 inches

The QD6QF is for shoppers who value sheer size over HDR intensity and gaming speed. RTINGS lists sizes up to 100 inches and reports that the 85-inch version can regularly fall just below $1,000. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, but it has no local dimming, a 60Hz native refresh rate and HDMI 2.0 connections.

Those specifications define its use. Without local dimming, bright HDR highlights have less punch and black scenes look flatter than on the U7SG, QM6K or an OLED. HDMI 2.0 and 60Hz are adequate for casual play and ordinary television, but they do not provide the 4K/120Hz-or-higher path expected by high-refresh console or PC gamers. Buy it when a very large picture is more important than premium contrast or competitive gaming responsiveness.

Hisense U75QG and QD7: Tom’s Guide alternatives

Tom’s Guide’s August 6, 2026 guide names the Hisense U75QG its best overall TV and the Hisense QD7 its best option under $500. The U75QG specification list includes 3,840 × 2,160 resolution, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, 165Hz, Google TV and four HDMI 2.1 ports. Tom’s Guide also notes middling audio, a reflective screen and poor off-axis viewing.

These recommendations do not establish that every U75QG or QD7 size is below $1,000 today. Check the exact model-year, diagonal and current price. The differing RTINGS and Tom’s Guide rankings are a reminder to compare measured performance, room conditions and your own priorities.

Gaming: which specifications actually matter?

Refresh-rate numbers are useful only when the rest of the chain can deliver them. A console game capped at 60 frames per second will not look like a 165Hz PC game simply because the television advertises 165Hz. Check your console or graphics card, the game’s frame-rate mode and the HDMI input bandwidth.

Model Native refresh and gaming connection What it means
LG B5 OLED 4K/120Hz; four HDMI 2.1 ports; VRR Well suited to 4K/120Hz consoles and PCs, with multiple high-bandwidth devices
Hisense U7SG Up to 4K/165Hz; four HDMI 2.1 ports; broad VRR Best fit in this group for high-refresh PC gaming and several HDMI 2.1 devices
TCL QM6K 4K/144Hz; two HDMI 2.1 ports; VRR Strong gaming capability, but fewer HDMI 2.1 inputs than the U7SG or B5
Hisense QD6QF 60Hz native; HDMI 2.0 Suitable for casual gaming, streaming and television rather than high-refresh play

Count the devices you will connect: a console, gaming PC, soundbar with pass-through and an AV receiver can quickly consume HDMI 2.1 ports. If you choose the QM6K, its two HDMI 2.1 inputs may require more careful cable and device planning than the four on the B5 or U7SG.

HDR: format support is not the same as HDR impact

Dolby Vision and HDR10+ describe how HDR metadata can be delivered; they do not guarantee a bright, convincing image. The QD6QF supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, yet RTINGS says it is too dim for strong HDR highlights. The QM6K supports the same two formats and produces a more convincing HDR presentation, although it does not match the U7SG’s bright-room performance.

When comparing televisions in a store or at home, look for both highlight intensity and shadow detail. A set that accepts more formats can still look subdued if its backlight cannot get bright enough or if it lacks effective local dimming. For a dark room, OLED’s pixel-level black control can matter more than peak brightness; for daylight viewing, the U7SG’s brightness and matte coating are more consequential.

How to buy the right size without breaking the cap

  1. Set the use case before browsing prices. Decide whether your priority is film contrast, daytime brightness, gaming latency and refresh, or maximum diagonal.
  2. Choose a realistic size range. Mark the wall width, stand depth and seating distance. Keep at least one smaller size as a fallback so a sale does not force a poor room fit.
  3. Filter by the features your devices need. For 4K/120Hz gaming, require HDMI 2.1 and a suitable refresh rate. If you mostly stream shows, those specifications should not take money away from screen size or contrast.
  4. Check the exact model code. A similar name can hide a different model year, panel size or port layout. Confirm resolution, native refresh, HDMI version and HDR formats on the listing.
  5. Verify the live total. Recheck the price, delivery, taxes, installation charges, return window and stock on the day you order. Use the $699, $899 and $999 U7SG figures only as dated reference points.
  6. Plan placement and sound. Center narrow-angle LCDs toward the main seats, avoid direct reflections where possible and budget for external audio if the television’s built-in speakers are not enough.

Common buying mistakes and fixes

Buying the biggest diagonal without checking the room

An 85-inch QD6QF can fit the budget, but side seats, wall width and viewing distance still determine whether it is comfortable. Measure first; choose the QM6K or U7SG in a smaller size if placement is tight.

Assuming every HDR logo means the same picture

Compare local dimming, brightness and black-level behavior, not just Dolby Vision or HDR10+ support. The QD6QF’s format list does not overcome its modest HDR impact.

Paying for 165Hz that your hardware cannot use

Match refresh rate to the frame rates your console or PC actually produces. If you play mostly 60fps titles, put more of the budget toward contrast, glare handling or a larger screen.

Ignoring seating angle

U7SG, QM6K and QD6QF all have narrow viewing-angle cautions in the supplied testing. A centered seat can look excellent while a side sofa looks washed out. Reposition the TV or choose a display technology with better off-axis consistency.

Treating an expired sale as a normal price

Annual lineups and clearance cycles change. RTINGS may retain older models while they remain available, and October 2026 promotions show how quickly prices can move. Recheck stock and the complete checkout total immediately before purchase.

Bottom line by shopper type

  • Choose the LG B5 OLED when a 55-inch sale price is below $1,000 and your priority is dark-room films plus strong console gaming features.
  • Choose the Hisense U7SG for a bright room, 65-inch gaming and multiple HDMI 2.1 devices, accepting narrow viewing angles and possible halos.
  • Choose the TCL QM6K when a 75-inch-or-larger screen is the goal and you still want Dolby Vision, HDR10+, VRR and 4K/144Hz.
  • Choose the Hisense QD6QF when 85 or 100 inches matters more than HDR punch and high-refresh gaming.
  • Check the Hisense U75QG or QD7 as additional candidates from Tom’s Guide, but verify the exact size, model year and today’s price before treating either as an under-$1,000 purchase.
