There is no universal winner between 34SP.com and Liquid Web. 34SP.com is the more natural choice for a UK small business or WordPress site that wants VAT-inclusive pound pricing, Manchester-based support and a clearly defined managed platform. Liquid Web is the stronger fit when you need a broader managed VPS or cloud portfolio, application-specific options and support stated as 24/7/365. Compare equivalent products and workloads—not one provider’s entry-level shared plan with the other’s VPS.

The prices and feature descriptions below are provider-published snapshots accessed on 13 October 2026. Hosting prices, promotions, limits and terms can change, so verify the live plan page and checkout before ordering.

34SP.com or Liquid Web: the short answer

Situation Better starting point Why
UK brochure site, local business or modest blog 34SP.com Professional Hosting £9.95 per month including VAT, with SSL, weekly backups, email and UK-based support listed on the plan page.
Managed WordPress with staging and developer tools 34SP.com WordPress Hosting A purpose-built WordPress service lists staging, WP-CLI, Git and daily backups; confirm the current plan table before purchase.
WordPress that needs more customisation or isolated resources Compare 34SP Universal Hosting with a matched Liquid Web VPS or cloud plan 34SP Universal publishes private-container resource tiers; Liquid Web publishes configurable VPS and cloud products. The right choice depends on RAM, CPU, operating system and who manages the server.
PHP application with scaling, multiple sites or specialised compliance requirements Liquid Web cloud or application-specific hosting Its cloud page lists PHP workers, vCPU, memory, storage, bandwidth and larger plans with advertised autoscaled PHP workers. WooCommerce, Magento, HIPAA and PCI categories are also listed.
Support outside normal UK business hours Liquid Web, subject to the selected product Liquid Web states 24/7 live chat or email and 24/7/365 cloud expertise. 34SP.com describes daily 8 am–8 pm support and separate 365-day availability, not guaranteed 24-hour coverage.

Both companies publish a 99.99% availability guarantee on the relevant pages. That percentage alone does not prove that their measurement windows, exclusions, claim procedures or service credits are equivalent.

Why a brand-level comparison can mislead

“34SP.com versus Liquid Web” combines unlike products. 34SP.com’s Professional and WordPress plans are managed website services, while its Universal Hosting uses private containers for customers who need more control. Liquid Web’s catalogue includes managed VPS, cloud website hosting and specialised services. A low advertised VPS promotion is not an apples-to-apples price for managed WordPress, and a WordPress plan is not a substitute for a root-managed application server.

Start by writing down the workload you are actually buying:

  • Number of websites and domains, including staging sites.
  • Platform: ordinary PHP, WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento or a custom application.
  • Peak traffic, concurrent users, background jobs and database size.
  • Required RAM, CPU, storage type and operating-system access.
  • Where most visitors are located and when support must be available.
  • Backup retention, migration help, email hosting and compliance obligations.

Only then compare a 34SP.com plan with the closest Liquid Web product. If one provider does not publish a directly equivalent specification, mark it as “not stated” rather than inferring parity.

What 34SP.com offers

Professional, WordPress and reseller plans

The general 34SP.com hosting page lists Professional Hosting at £9.95 per month, WordPress Hosting at £11.95 per month and Reseller Hosting at £41.95 per month. The displayed amounts include UK VAT. The same page states that packages include SSL, backups, email and account-management tools, but the exact backup schedule differs by plan.

34SP.com plan Displayed price (13 October 2026) Published inclusions or positioning
Professional Hosting £9.95/month, VAT-inclusive Free SSL, weekly backups, optional daily backups, email and webmail.
WordPress Hosting £11.95/month, VAT-inclusive Purpose-built for WordPress; the product page describes daily backups, staging and developer features. Verify the current plan table because details extracted from the product page do not align perfectly with the general hosting page.
Reseller Hosting £41.95/month, VAT-inclusive White-label service with a client-level panel and daily backups.

These are monthly display prices, not a promise of future renewal pricing. Check whether a checkout discount, domain charge or optional daily backup changes your first-year and recurring totals.

Universal Hosting for custom or heavier sites

34SP.com Universal Hosting is positioned for sites that outgrow ordinary platform hosting or need modifications that a standard WordPress environment does not permit. It uses private containers and publishes three resource tiers:

Tier Price per month Storage Memory
Standard £21.95, VAT-inclusive 15 GB 2 GB
Ecommerce £51.95, VAT-inclusive 60 GB 5 GB
Heavy Duty £101.95, VAT-inclusive 135 GB 10 GB

The page says these plans have no minimum contract period. It also describes Universal as suitable for WordPress when the regular WordPress platform is too restrictive. Before switching, ask which PHP versions, extensions, cron limits, database limits, control-panel functions and deployment methods are included; the headline storage and memory figures do not answer those questions.

WordPress-specific tools

The 34SP.com WordPress Hosting page describes staging, WP-CLI and Git, which can matter more to a developer than a small difference in monthly price. It also states PCI compliance for its WordPress accounts. Treat that as a product claim, not a complete compliance assessment: confirm the scope, current documentation, shared-responsibility boundaries and whether your payment flow remains in scope.

34SP.com reports an average response time of 8.72 seconds for two identical WordPress sites on an “Unoptimised server” and 0.009 seconds on a “34SP.com WordPress Hosting server.” Those figures come from 34SP.com’s own product-page test. They are not an independent comparison with Liquid Web, and the page does not establish the test’s geography, caching configuration, traffic pattern or repeatability. Use them as vendor-reported evidence only.

What Liquid Web offers

Managed VPS and cloud products

Liquid Web’s pricing page lists VPS configurations, including displays from $5 per month and higher-resource options. Some of the lowest figures are promotions for new accounts and do not apply to upgrades. They are in US dollars, whereas 34SP.com’s published prices are UK pounds including VAT; convert currency and account for applicable taxes before comparing totals.

The relevant comparison is the VPS configuration you would actually use: memory, vCPU, storage, bandwidth, operating-system image, control panel, backup option and management level. A promotional starting price without those details cannot establish that Liquid Web is cheaper than a 34SP.com Universal tier.

Cloud website hosting for PHP

Liquid Web’s cloud website hosting page targets PHP applications. Its plan table lists site limits, storage, bandwidth, PHP workers, vCPU and memory; larger plans advertise autoscaled PHP workers. Those are the numbers to match against a busy WordPress or PHP workload, especially when simultaneous requests or background tasks cause a small plan’s worker pool to queue.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same page describes daily backups archived for 30 days, 24/7/365 expert support and security features including Level 1 PCI compliance, SOC 2 data centers, monitoring and WAF rulesets. These statements apply to that cloud product page. Do not assume every VPS, WordPress, email or specialised service carries identical backups, retention or security controls.

Application-specific and regulated categories

The Liquid Web hosting catalogue lists WooCommerce, Magento, HIPAA, PCI and email hosting alongside general hosting. A category label is a starting point, not proof that your architecture is compliant. Request the current agreement, certification or audit evidence, data-flow responsibilities, logging requirements and breach-notification terms for the exact service you plan to buy.

Price, tax and promotion comparison

34SP.com’s displayed prices are straightforward to read in pounds and include VAT. Its Universal page says there is no minimum term. Liquid Web’s displayed prices are in US dollars and can include new-account promotions. The two approaches create different risks at checkout:

  • Currency: a USD price will fluctuate in GBP, and your card issuer may add a foreign-exchange fee.
  • Tax: confirm whether tax is added to Liquid Web’s displayed amount for your billing address; do not compare a tax-inclusive figure with a pre-tax figure.
  • Promotion scope: Liquid Web notes that some discounts are for new accounts only and do not apply to upgrades. Record the regular renewal amount, not only the introductory amount.
  • Resource changes: moving from shared or managed WordPress hosting to a VPS can add control-panel, backup, licence or administration costs that are not visible in the base rate.
  • Optional services: check daily backup upgrades, extra sites, additional storage, email, migration and premium support separately.

Build a 12-month and 36-month worksheet with the same assumptions for both providers. Include VAT or sales tax, exchange rate, domains, backups, email, migrations, overage charges and the cost of staff time for server administration. If a recurring price is not stated on the live page, label it “not stated” rather than extrapolating from a promotion.

WordPress: which host fits which site?

Choose 34SP.com when the WordPress workflow is the priority

34SP.com has a named managed WordPress product rather than asking every customer to configure a generic server. Staging, WP-CLI and Git can support a development-to-production workflow, while daily backups are listed for the WordPress plan. UK VAT-inclusive pricing and Manchester-based support may simplify purchasing for a UK organisation.

Confirm the details that affect a real site: maximum site count, storage, PHP worker or process limits, database size, staging-site treatment, backup retention, malware response, plugin restrictions, migration scope and whether email is included. The general hosting page and WordPress page do not present every detail identically, so rely on the current plan table and written confirmation.

Choose Liquid Web when the WordPress workload needs cloud capacity

Liquid Web can make more sense for a high-traffic WordPress or WooCommerce installation that needs a defined vCPU and memory allocation, more PHP workers, autoscaling or a broader managed infrastructure. Its cloud page’s 30-day backup archive and 24/7/365 expert support may be valuable when a revenue-generating site cannot wait for daytime assistance.

Do not assume that a Liquid Web cloud plan is automatically better. Compare the exact number of sites, worker counts, storage, database performance, staging process, migration service, CDN arrangement and backup restore procedure. A smaller WordPress site may gain nothing from paying for resources it does not use.

Custom applications and higher resource requirements

Questions to ask about 34SP Universal

  • Is the required operating system or runtime available inside the private container?
  • Can you install extensions, schedule workers and alter web-server settings?
  • Are CPU allocations, process limits and network transfer limits documented?
  • Who patches the operating system and application stack?
  • How are restores, staging and deployments performed?

Universal’s published memory and storage tiers make initial sizing possible, but they do not by themselves reveal CPU entitlement, root access or every software constraint. Get those answers before moving a custom application.

Questions to ask about a Liquid Web VPS or cloud plan

  • Which VPS or cloud configuration supplies the RAM, vCPU, disk and bandwidth your peak load requires?
  • Is the server fully managed, and which tasks remain yours?
  • Are control-panel licences, backups, CDN delivery and security tooling included?
  • Can resources be resized without a migration, and are promotional prices excluded from upgrades?
  • What monitoring, escalation and restore objectives apply to the selected product?

Liquid Web’s broader catalogue is useful when you need a specific application environment, but breadth also makes the product name insufficient. Save the exact URL, configuration and terms that you approved.

Support, migration and location

34SP.com says it is based in Manchester and offers in-house support. Its FAQ states: “We’re open from 8 am until 8 pm every day of the week and offer support over email, telephone and Slack during those hours.” The Universal page describes email and telephone support from the Manchester office 365 days a year. Read those statements together: support is available every day, but the stated 8 am–8 pm window is not 24-hour coverage.

34SP.com also says its migration service is free and that staff can advise on a package and move website data. Ask whether the offer covers databases, DNS, mailboxes, SSL certificates, cron jobs, redirects and post-migration testing, and whether a complex custom application incurs a charge.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Liquid Web’s web-hosting page states: “Available 24/7 by live chat or email, our experienced technicians are ready to help you resolve issues fast.” Its cloud page states 24/7/365 expert support. Confirm that the support promise applies to the product you selected, which channels are monitored for emergencies, how escalation works and whether phone support is included.

For a UK business, Manchester-based support may make communication and time-zone coordination easier. For a globally operated service, round-the-clock chat or email may matter more than the support team’s location. Neither preference substitutes for a written response-time or escalation commitment.

Backups, security and uptime

Backups

34SP.com’s plan-level backup statements are specific but different: Professional lists weekly backups with optional daily backups; WordPress lists daily backups; Reseller lists daily backups. Ask how long backups are retained, where they are stored, whether they include databases and email, and whether a self-service restore is available.

Liquid Web’s cloud website page describes daily backups retained for 30 days. That retention statement belongs to the cloud product; verify the backup schedule and restore process for a VPS or another catalogue category.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Security and compliance

Liquid Web’s cloud page lists monitoring, WAF rulesets, Level 1 PCI compliance and SOC 2 data centers. 34SP.com’s WordPress page states PCI compliance for its WordPress accounts. These are useful signals, but compliance depends on the complete service boundary, your code, payment provider, access controls and operational procedures. Obtain current evidence before treating either service as suitable for a regulated workload.

Uptime guarantees

34SP.com’s Universal page says its SLA guarantees 99.99% server availability. Liquid Web’s web-hosting page says, “Our 99.99% guarantee is in our SLA.” A 99.99% target allows roughly 52.6 minutes of downtime in a 365-day year if measured continuously, but that arithmetic does not reveal each provider’s exclusions or remedy. Compare the complete SLA for:

  • What counts as downtime and which components are measured.
  • Scheduled maintenance, network events, customer errors and third-party failures excluded from the calculation.
  • How you must document and submit a claim.
  • Whether the remedy is a credit, its maximum value and the claim deadline.

Performance: what can and cannot be concluded

No independent, directly matched benchmark establishes that either provider is faster. 34SP.com’s 8.72-second versus 0.009-second figures compare its own WordPress server with an unoptimised server, not with Liquid Web. Liquid Web’s published worker and resource specifications describe capacity, not a guaranteed page-load time.

If speed determines your purchase, run a controlled test after narrowing the products:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Deploy identical code, database, media and plugins on equivalent plans.
  2. Use the same caching, CDN, PHP version and compression settings.
  3. Measure from the same user regions at busy and quiet periods.
  4. Include uncached requests, logged-in sessions, checkout or search actions and background jobs where relevant.
  5. Record at least several days of results and report median and tail latency, error rate and resource saturation.

Without those controls, choose on documented resources and support rather than a marketing speed figure.

A practical decision process

  1. Select the product class. Decide between shared or managed WordPress hosting, a private-container environment, VPS or cloud application hosting.
  2. Set minimum resources. Write down storage, memory, CPU, worker count, bandwidth, site count and backup retention. Reject plans that do not publish or confirm a required value.
  3. Map operational responsibility. Identify who handles patches, migrations, DNS, restores, monitoring, security incidents and performance tuning.
  4. Check support coverage. Match the stated hours and channels to your incident window and time zone. Distinguish “365 days” from “24/7.”
  5. Calculate the real price. Add tax, currency conversion, renewal pricing, backups, email, licences, migration and administration for at least 12 months.
  6. Read the SLA. Compare measurement scope, exclusions, claim steps and remedies instead of comparing the 99.99% headline alone.
  7. Plan exit and recovery. Verify export access, backup downloads, DNS control, cancellation notice and how you would restore the site elsewhere.

Who should choose each provider?

34SP.com is the better-defined choice when

  • Your business is UK-focused and VAT-inclusive GBP pricing simplifies procurement.
  • You run a straightforward site or WordPress installation and want a named managed platform.
  • Manchester-based support and 8 am–8 pm daily coverage suit your operating hours.
  • You value a published free migration service and do not need a fully custom VPS environment.
  • The Universal tiers provide enough memory and storage for your customised workload.

Liquid Web is the better-defined choice when

  • You need a managed VPS or cloud product rather than ordinary shared hosting.
  • Your PHP application benefits from explicit vCPU, memory and PHP-worker sizing.
  • 24/7/365 cloud support, worldwide data-center options or a CDN are important.
  • You need to investigate WooCommerce, Magento or specialised compliance-oriented services.
  • You have the technical or budget capacity to compare configurations and manage a more complex catalogue.

Final verdict

Pick 34SP.com for a UK-oriented small business or managed WordPress site when its published plans, support window and included services match your needs. Pick Liquid Web when the workload calls for a managed VPS or cloud architecture, explicit PHP capacity, specialised application hosting or support stated as 24/7/365. For any serious migration, obtain a written quote and SLA for matched products before deciding; the available evidence does not support naming either company an across-the-board winner.
