Microsoft, Meta Platforms and Alphabet are the clearest trillion-dollar names to watch for a future stock split—but none has confirmed one. Microsoft’s repeated split history makes it the strongest precedent-based candidate, Meta offers the most notable first-split story, and Alphabet combines enormous scale with a recent 20-for-1 split. This is a speculative watchlist, not a prediction: a split is a discretionary board decision and does not make a company cheaper by valuation.
Why these three companies are on the watchlist
The screen starts with market-cap scale, then adds four questions: how accessible the displayed share price is, whether the company has split before, whether its business momentum could keep lifting the stock, and whether management has provided any evidence of an upcoming action. FTSE Russell’s 2026 reconstitution ranked Alphabet second, Microsoft fourth and Meta Platforms seventh among U.S. companies. The market-cap figures below are from FTSE Russell’s April 30, 2026 rank day, so they will change as share prices move.

These rankings establish scale, not timing. Neither FTSE Russell’s table nor the company disclosures cited here confirms that any of the three is preparing a split.
Microsoft: the clearest repeat-split candidate
Microsoft’s investor-relations FAQ says its 2003 split was intended to make the shares accessible to more investors and identifies it as the company’s ninth split since going public in March 1986. The FAQ states: “The decision to split the stock was made by Microsoft’s Board of Directors, based on a desire to make our stock more accessible to a broader range of investors.”

That history matters because Microsoft has repeatedly used splits as its nominal share price rose. It gives the company a stronger precedent than either of the other candidates, but it does not establish a schedule. The board could decide that modern fractional-share trading has removed much of the access problem, or it could choose to split again if management believes a lower displayed price would broaden participation.
What supports the thesis

Meta Platforms: the strongest first-split narrative
Kiplinger reported Meta at $547.75 per share on March 26, 2026 and described it as the only Magnificent Seven company without a split history. That combination—an unusually visible consumer platform, a high nominal share price and no previous split—creates the most obvious first-split narrative in the group.
Meta’s operating scale also keeps it on a momentum-oriented watchlist. Its official second-quarter 2026 release reported $60.801 billion in quarterly revenue, up 28% year over year; 3.60 billion daily active people; and $31.08 billion in capital expenditures. Mark Zuckerberg said, “AI is accelerating our core business today, powering our next generation of products, and opening the door to entirely new enterprise opportunities.” Strong growth can push a share price higher over time, which may eventually make a split more appealing, but growth is not evidence that a split is imminent.

Why Meta attracts first-split speculation
- It has no reported split through the March 2026 coverage, unlike Microsoft and Alphabet.

Alphabet: a proven splitter, but not an imminent one
Alphabet was the largest company in this screen at $4.6622 trillion on FTSE Russell’s 2026 rank day. Kiplinger records its 20-for-1 split on July 15, 2022. That event demonstrates that Alphabet has used a split to reset the displayed price, but a past split is not a signal that another one is approaching.

Alphabet therefore sits between the other two cases. It has a clear precedent like Microsoft, yet its most recent split is comparatively recent. Investors should treat the 2022 action as evidence of management’s willingness—not as a recurring calendar event.

In a conventional split, the company increases the number of shares while reducing the price per share by the same ratio. In a 2-for-1 split, an investor with one share receives two shares priced at roughly half the previous quote. The position’s market value is unchanged at the moment of the split, apart from normal market movement.

What could confirm or overturn the watchlist thesis
A formal board announcement, a securities filing or explicit investor-relations guidance would confirm that a split is actually planned.
