For most people, 1.5K at 144Hz is a strong balance. Choose a higher-resolution screen if fine detail is your priority; favor a high refresh rate if smooth motion or supported high-frame-rate gaming matters more. But the exact 2K/185Hz versus 1.5K/144Hz pairing has not been verified as a manufacturer-documented, like-for-like phone comparison, so check the specifications of the actual models you are considering.
What do resolution and refresh rate change?
Resolution is the number and arrangement of pixels on a screen. More pixels can show finer detail, though the visible difference also depends on screen size, pixel density, content, and viewing distance. Refresh rate is how many times per second the display can update. A higher rate can make scrolling and supported motion look smoother.
These specifications describe different properties. A higher refresh rate does not add image detail, and a higher resolution does not by itself make motion smoother. The labels “2K” and “1.5K” are also less informative than a phone’s actual pixel dimensions and pixels per inch (ppi): manufacturers may use broad labels for screens with different dimensions.
What the listed phone examples show
Manufacturer specifications illustrate why it is worth checking the exact handset rather than treating a resolution label as a universal standard.

Does 185Hz matter more than 144Hz?
Only if the phone, the app or game, and the content can make use of the higher rate—and if you value the resulting smoother motion. A maximum refresh specification does not mean every app runs at that rate. Likewise, a display’s refresh rate and a game’s frame rate are separate measures: a 185Hz panel does not guarantee that a game renders 185 frames per second.
For gaming, check the specific game’s supported frame-rate options and whether the handset can sustain performance during play. realme’s India product page describes 144FPS support for selected popular games on the P4 Pro 5G alongside its 144Hz display. That is a manufacturer claim about selected titles, not a guarantee for every game or every playing condition.

How to choose between actual phones
Compare the models you can buy in your region, not just the numbers in a headline. Use this checklist:
- Native resolution and ppi: Compare exact pixel dimensions and pixel density, taking screen size into account.
- Refresh modes and app support: Find out which refresh-rate settings the phone offers and whether your apps or games use them.
- Brightness and panel quality: Compare the specifications that matter to your use, including brightness, color, and screen size.
- Gaming performance: Check supported game frame rates and sustained performance; a peak display figure alone is not a performance guarantee.
- Eye-comfort features: Look for the model’s actual dimming approach and other listed features. A manufacturer’s PWM or DC dimming specification is specific to that handset, not proof that a resolution-and-refresh combination is easier on everyone’s eyes.
- Battery life: Look for comparable testing under similar conditions. The product specifications cited here do not establish which of the headline combinations lasts longer.
- Touch sampling: If you play games where touch response matters, check the exact phone’s touch-sampling specification as well as its display refresh rate.
Which should you prioritize?
Choose resolution when crisp detail is the main goal and the phone’s actual pixel density supports that preference. Choose refresh rate when smoother scrolling or higher-frame-rate gaming is more important and your chosen apps or games support it. If neither is a clear priority, a verified 1.5K/144Hz phone can be a sensible balance—but compare the complete models, since the exact 2K/185Hz pairing is not established by the cited manufacturer examples.
