123Movies became popular because it put a large amount of video behind a simple search box. The problem is that sites using the 123Movies name and its many mirror domains have not generally been authorized streaming services. They can disappear without warning, redirect visitors to deceptive pages, or use aggressive advertising and pop-ups.
The safer replacement is not another mirror. It is an official service that identifies its operator, explains how its catalog is licensed, and gives you a normal way to watch without downloading a questionable player. The 18 options below include ad-supported platforms, library services, free sections of larger services, and a few sources that need extra qualification before you use them.
Availability, pricing, and catalogs can change by country. Use the official domain linked for each service, and do not assume that a title shown in a search result is free or available in your region.

A legitimate free streaming service usually pays for content through advertising, library or educational licensing, public-domain distribution, or a limited free tier. “Free” normally means you may see advertisements, face regional restrictions, or need a library card. It does not mean every new release is available at no cost.

18 best 123Movies alternatives
1. Tubi
Tubi is one of the clearest replacements for casual free movie and TV browsing. Its current homepage describes the service as “Free Movies & TV,” “No Subscription Required,” and “100% Legal.” You can use Start Watching or Browse Titles without signing up for a paid subscription.
Tubi says it does not require a subscription fee or credit card for free viewing; advertising supports the service. It works on the web and lists Android, iOS, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Xfinity X1, Xbox, Samsung Smart TVs, Sony Smart TVs, PlayStation, and other supported platforms.
Important limitation: Tubi is not globally available. Its current regional notice says it is unavailable in Europe because of changes in EU laws, so avoid old guides claiming that Tubi is available throughout Europe.
2. Pluto TV
Pluto TV is a strong choice if you prefer a traditional channel guide instead of searching for one movie at a time. The current web interface uses the Live TV label and combines live channels with free programming, including movies and series.
The guide is keyboard-friendly: Up/Down moves between channels, Right/Left moves through time, and Enter activates a program cell. Press F when a channel header is focused to add or remove it from favorites, or press I to view program details. Pluto’s lineup is region-dependent, so the US page may not match what you see elsewhere.
3. The Roku Channel
The Roku Channel offers thousands of free TV shows and movies, Roku Originals, children’s programming, and more than 500 live TV channels according to its current site. Its navigation includes Home, Browse, Live TV, Save List, and Search.

You do not need a Roku device to use the website or mobile app. On a Roku device, the relevant path is Home → Streaming Store → Top Free & TV → choose an app → Add app. The device’s Home screen also contains the Free or Featured Free area, and the Live TV Channel Guide can be opened from The Roku Channel or the Roku Home screen.
Some listings lead to premium subscriptions or other services, so check whether the item has a free Play option before assuming it is included.
4. Plex
Plex has a free, legal section for movies and shows inside its broader media platform. It is useful when you want one interface for browsing free programming and discovering where other titles are available.

There is an important distinction: Plex also promotes discovery from services such as Pluto TV and Tubi. A title that appears in Plex search is not necessarily free to stream directly in Plex. Open the title’s details and verify the provider, price, and playback option before starting.
5. Kanopy
Kanopy is particularly useful for documentaries, independent cinema, classic films, and educational content. It is accessed through a participating public library, college, or university, normally using that institution’s credentials or library-card workflow.
Not every library card works with Kanopy. Eligibility depends on whether your specific library or educational institution participates, and participating institutions can set their own catalog or borrowing limits. Check your library’s website or Kanopy’s institution lookup rather than assuming access.
6. hoopla
hoopla turns a participating library card into access to movies, television, audiobooks, ebooks, comics, magazines, music, and BingePasses. Its current interface exposes categories including Movies and Television, and it says users can stream titles immediately.
Most titles can also be downloaded to a phone or tablet for offline use. The catalog is controlled by your library, so availability and borrowing limits differ. If a movie is missing, that usually reflects the library’s catalog rather than a problem with the app.

7. Sling Freestream
Sling Freestream is Sling’s free-TV area. Its current page advertises 600+ channels of free TV, including live and on-demand content, with no account required for basic viewing.
An account is optional for ordinary watching but unlocks extras such as rewards, DVR, favorite channels, watchlists, arcade games, and parental controls. Sling currently advertises up to 10 hours of free DVR storage for account holders. Look for Free TV under Get deals, or use the page’s Stream free and Watch now buttons.
8. Xumo Play
Xumo Play offers more than 350 channels and 15,000 on-demand titles according to Xumo’s current website. It requires no subscription or login; the current entry point is the Watch now button linking to play.xumo.com.
Xumo separates Xumo Play from Xumo TV and the Xumo Stream Box. Those names refer to different products, so do not assume that buying Xumo hardware is necessary to use the free web service.

The site currently highlights titles such as Medici, Brassic, Midsomer Murders, Forensic Files, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Unspeakable, and Hot Ones. Treat the corporate homepage as a catalog and distributor site, however: not every title displayed there is necessarily playable directly on that page. Look for the official FilmRise app or supported channel carrying the program.

ViX is a useful alternative for Spanish-language entertainment. Its current site is region- and language-sensitive; the supplied homepage redirects to a Spanish-language experience with sections such as Novelas, Películas, Series, Música, Podcasts, En vivo, Deportes, and Noticias.
ViX has both free and paid programming. The separate Premium area is a reminder not to treat every listing as free. Program cards use Ver ahora, and the catalog, interface, and availability may differ substantially by region.
12. YouTube Movies
YouTube Movies is an official destination for movies and shows, including rentals, purchases, and—depending on the market and licensing window—some free-with-ads titles.
Do not assume a title is free just because it appears at youtube.com/movies. Availability and pricing can vary by country, account, title, and time. Check the specific movie page for its current Watch free, rental, or purchase option.
13. Internet Archive
The Internet Archive Movies collection is a legitimate place to explore archival, public-domain, and user-contributed video. It belongs to a larger digital library that also contains borrowable and uploaded material.
It is not a replacement for a current commercial streaming catalog. A movie’s presence in the collection does not mean it is a currently licensed Hollywood release, and item-level rights or availability can differ. Read the item description and usage information before downloading or redistributing anything.
14. Peacock’s free content
Peacock has historically offered free content, but its current free-tier page was not reliably accessible during verification. For that reason, do not publish a fixed title count, assume a permanent free plan, or promise that registration is unnecessary without checking Peacock’s live interface at the time you read this.

Also distinguish a free Peacock selection from promotions. Xumo currently advertises six months of Peacock Premium on eligible Xumo devices as a limited-time offer; that is not the same as a permanent free Peacock tier.

15. Fandango at Home Free
Fandango at Home has historically provided an ad-supported free-movie section. Its current free catalog page was not reliably accessible during verification, so the exact title list, menu wording, and account requirements should be checked directly at Fandango at Home’s official site.
Use the provider’s own free section if it is available in your region. Avoid relying on old articles that quote title counts or show screenshots from an earlier version of the service.
16. Crackle
Crackle appears in many older free-streaming lists, but its current homepage was not reliably fetchable during verification. Its availability, catalog, and regional operation therefore require a live check before you depend on it.

“Amazon Freevee” is now an outdated way to describe the service as a permanently separate destination. Recent coverage indicates that Freevee content has moved into the Prime Video experience under free or ad-supported viewing selections.
When checking Amazon, look inside Prime Video for the current free area and verify whether a title is marked free, ad-supported, included with a subscription, available to rent, or available to buy. Do not install an old Freevee app or trust a page that presents itself as a standalone Freevee service without checking Amazon’s current interface.
