These 17 LEGO favorites come from an informal poll of the author’s friends, family, and Mashable coworkers—not a representative survey or a ranked product test. The available article excerpt confirms four examples: a playable Mario Kart build, two display-focused sets, and a large Star Wars model. It does not identify all 17 picks, so the examples below are a useful snapshot of the list rather than a complete catalog.
How the 17 favorites were chosen
The source article says the author asked people in their social and work circles about sets they had built or wanted to build. Its selections span themes such as Mario, Botanicals, Star Wars, and Technic, but the available excerpt does not show every set or establish a consistent scoring method. Treat “favorite” as an informal endorsement, not a popularity ranking or evidence that one set is better than another.
Four confirmed picks and what they offer
| Set | What the article reports | Best fit suggested by the feature |
|---|---|---|
| LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart Yoshi Bike | A Yoshi-on-a-bike build with a shell-shooting play feature. | Play-oriented building and Mario Kart fans. |
| LEGO Icons Retro Radio | A retro-radio build with a sound brick and a space to store a phone. | A display build with novelty features. |
| LEGO Ideas The Globe | The article describes it as retired and hard to find. | A display-focused build; availability may vary. |
| LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon | The excerpt identifies a version with 7,541 pieces. | A large-scale Star Wars build. Confirm the exact set version before buying. |
These details are reported by the Mashable article, not independently verified hands-on findings. The excerpt does not give comparable build times, difficulty ratings, or age recommendations for these four sets, so those are not useful bases for a head-to-head ranking.
What the article-era price range means
The 2026 article describes the 17 picks as ranging from under $20 to $850. That is the source’s article-era range, not a current price comparison: retailer prices and stock can change, and current listings were not checked. The range also does not tell you what any one of the four confirmed sets costs today.

How to use the list when choosing a set
- For play: The Yoshi Bike is the confirmed example with an interactive play feature.
- For display: The Retro Radio and The Globe are described as display-oriented builds; the radio also has its reported sound and phone-storage features.
- For a substantial franchise build: The Millennium Falcon example is the large model in the excerpt, but check the exact version and piece count.
- Before buying: Confirm the exact set name or number, current availability, and live price with the retailer. The Globe’s reported retired status and the article’s price range may no longer reflect what is available.
The excerpt confirms only these four names, despite the article’s 17-set title. It would be misleading to fill in the remaining picks or present a complete ranking without reliable details for them.
