GeoGuessr is not completely free, but it is not entirely paywalled either. Its current free tier includes a Daily Challenge with five locations refreshed each day. Multiplayer, parties, custom content, global exploration and other features require a subscription.
If you want more rounds, different formats or a mobile option, these 15 alternatives cover the main choices. Some use Google Street View, while others replace it with walking videos, historical photographs or conventional map quizzes.

1. Geotastic
Geotastic is one of the broadest browser-based alternatives. It offers Worldwide Pinpointing, Popular Landmarks, City Guesser, Country Streak, Challenges, custom local and online games, and matchmaking.

- Flags, Capitals & Location - Show the country on the map, recognize the flags of the world or name the capital city. All 194 countries & a world map included.
- Family Board Game - Find the strongest fact about the country and win. Train your memory and brain while having fun.
- For Kids & Adults - For all stages of knowledge. One of the best educational board games for kids 8-12. Smart birthday / Christmas gift idea for teen boys and girls.
- Up-to-date Geography Game - An award-winning world learning card game. Can also be used as flash cards or trivia. Country's data is updated regularly.
- Fun & Educational - The more you play the more you know. Take it on a travel or road trip. For 2 to 5 players ages 8 and up.
Geotastic is browser-only, so it is not the best choice if you specifically want a native phone app.
2. OpenGuessr
OpenGuessr is a Google Street View-based clone that allows visitors to begin as guests. An account becomes useful—and necessary—for saving scores, tracking progress and entering competitions.
Its map selection includes standard maps, capital cities, landmarks, continents, individual countries, image-based games and map quizzes. You can configure the round time limit, adjust music volume and switch to fullscreen mode. The visible interface includes labels such as Menu, Return and Map.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The main limitation is advertising, including a bottom ad window on the main page. There is also no native mobile app.
3. GeoHub
GeoHub provides world, landmark, United States and Canada maps, along with Classic, Country Streak and Daily Challenge modes. You can also create an invite link for a multiplayer game.
Sign-up is required to play, save an ongoing game, continue on another device and track scores. Ordinary free users have a daily game limit. GeoHub can accept a personal Google API key, but this is not anonymous unlimited play: configuring one may require a Google Cloud project, API credentials and billing.
For that reason, descriptions calling GeoHub “unlimited and free” without qualification are misleading.

GuessWhereYouAre combines pre-made maps with custom challenges, solo games, duels, arena play and private parties. Its multiplayer options are labelled Duel Lobby, Arena and Party. Private games can be hosted or joined through invite links.
A useful solo feature is the ability to skip an unfamiliar location. The site contains advertising, and some users have reported problems creating accounts. The public homepage is also difficult to verify reliably in a text-based view, so button paths and current account rules may change.
5. WorldleDaily
WorldleDaily has three main formats: daily, pinpoint and streak games. The daily game gives every player the same location and allows six guesses.
Pinpoint mode offers unlimited randomly generated locations. You can set the maximum winning distance as high as 500 km, change the difficulty, enable cityscape settings and control how frequently locations appear. Streaks mode asks you to identify countries or cities correctly to continue.
No sign-up is required. Free play is ad-supported, while a reported subscription costs $0.99 per month to remove ads. It should not be described as entirely free with no paid option.

- Race Around the World - Move across the map, pass famous landmarks and use country facts to reach the finish first; a 40-minute family game for ages 9+
- Learning Geography Naturally - Practice flags of the world, capitals, continents and map locations while playing; made for beginners, geography fans and mixed-knowledge groups
- 194 Countries of the World Included - Country card shows flag, capital, area, population, GDP per capita, highest point and neighboring countries; 26 action cards add twists
- Easy to Start, Fun to Replay - Simple rules and adjustable challenges help kids, teens and adults play together without expert knowledge - one of those games that grows with players
- Complete Board Game Set - Includes world map board, 194 country cards, 26 action cards, 7 pawns and dice; for family nights, classrooms, trivia, flash cards and gifts for boys and girls
6. WorldGuessr
WorldGuessr offers solo games, Quick Play, matchmaking, parties and community maps. Quick Play uses five rounds per game. Several entry points—including Quick Play, matchmaking and parties—can be accessed without an account.
Creating an account lets you track scores and progress. Community maps cover country themes, landmarks, NFL stadiums and other specialist categories, which makes the site more varied than a standard world map.
Advertising helps cover the cost of the Maps API. Because the current homepage does not expose all of its interface text consistently, check the live site for the current navigation labels and account prompts.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute7. City Guesser
City Guesser is not a Street View replacement. It uses videos of places instead of interactive panoramas. You watch a clip, select Click Map To Guess, and then review the result using Guess Close and Next.
Available categories include Worldwide, USA, Europe, Monuments, Canada, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Asia, Japan, India, Brazil, Australia and Argentina. Additional formats include Streaks Mode, Country Streak, Radius Streak, No Moving Challenge and Time Limit Challenge.
It is playable without login. The trade-off is that video coverage and clue quality vary, and you cannot freely pan around the location as you can in Street View.
8. Hide & Seek World
Hide & Seek World turns Street View into a multiplayer hide-and-seek game rather than a conventional “drop a pin and score” round. Its current modes are Classic Hide ’N Seek and Find Wolly; both expose a PLAY button.
Public games support between 2 and 50 players and are unlimited, free and ad-supported. Free accounts can host one private 1v1 game per day. Paid Pro, Premium and Ultimate tiers raise private-lobby limits to four, 20 and 50 players respectively. Invitees do not need an account or membership to join a private game.
There is an important current caveat: the site displays Update in Progress and says new games and subscription changes are temporarily disabled.
9. TimeGuessr
TimeGuessr asks two questions at once: where was the photograph taken, and what year was it taken? Each round is worth up to 10,000 points—5,000 for the year and 5,000 for the location.
The Daily mode contains five rounds per day. The Play option supplies random games that can be replayed, and friends can be invited to multiplayer challenges. Guest play is available; logging in adds tracking and other features.
Recommended Free Tools
This is a photo-based game, not Street View. Historical image quality, clothing, cars, signs, architecture and landmarks become the clues. The site currently exposes Play, Daily, Community, Remove Ads and Log in controls.

10. FreeGuessr
FreeGuessr is a GeoGuessr-style Street View game with solo play, multiplayer, parties, Arena, Duel, levels, XP and leaderboards.
Free play is supported by advertising. Current reporting describes the site as having minimal ads, but “no ads” is not a safe current claim. The homepage did not expose enough usable text to independently confirm its current button names, account requirements, map catalogue or exact free-play limits, so treat those details as subject to change.
11. Seterra
Seterra is a map quiz rather than a Street View game. Its Play now entry leads to more than 400 map quizzes covering countries, capitals, cities, rivers, lakes, mountains and flags.
It also includes U.S. states, Canadian provinces, Brazilian states, Chinese provinces, Indian cities, anatomy and science. The site can be browsed by regions such as The U.S., Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and World. Browser, mobile and printable versions are available, with support reported for more than 40 languages.
Choose Seterra if you want to learn map positions. Do not choose it expecting panoramic exploration, movement or Street View pin placement.
12. Where Am I / MobileGuessr
Where Am I, also branded MobileGuessr, is designed for iOS and Android. You watch a street-walk video, look for clues, place a pin on a world map, and then receive the distance and score.
Its modes include ranked duels, weekly tournaments, daily challenges, country streaks, campaigns, collectible monuments and leaderboards. Ranked leagues run from Bronze through Silver, Gold, Master and Champion.
The app is free to download and enter, but it contains advertising and optional in-app purchases. It is independently developed and is not affiliated with GeoGuessr.
13. PlayGeography
PlayGeography is a straightforward single-player geography quiz. No account is required to begin. The current game categories include World, Europe, USA 50 States, Africa, Asia, Canada, North America and South America.
It also has dedicated flag and capital sections, including world, regional and U.S. state-capital quizzes. Current question counts shown on the site include 30 for World, Europe, USA 50 States, Africa and Asia; 13 for Canada and South America; and 18 for North America.
It does not provide Street View, multiplayer or free-form location guessing. It is best for memorising countries, flags, capitals and regions.

The format rewards different skills from GeoGuessr. A readable sign or distinctive vehicle can help, but some photos have ambiguous dates because they lack clear evidence from fashion, architecture, transport or image technology. The site is brought to you by Teuteuf Games.
15. Zoomtastic: do not rely on old recommendation lists
Zoomtastic was previously reported as a zoom-in geography quiz with World, Cities and Wonders modes. Earlier descriptions mentioned a progressively revealed map, timed answer choices, custom modes, guest play, leaderboards and a mode editor.
That information is no longer enough to recommend it. The current domain resolves to a parked or repurposed site advertising gambling and template-related content rather than a geography game. Unless a replacement official domain is independently verified, Zoomtastic is not a currently playable free GeoGuessr alternative.
