For a 120 Hz TV that can handle high-frame-rate gaming, verify that the exact model accepts a 4K 120 Hz signal over the HDMI ports you plan to use. The Samsung S85H OLED and LG B6E OLED are current examples documented on UK product pages; the Hisense U7SG is an LCD alternative reviewed by RTINGS. The right pick depends on port support, VRR and ALLM, room brightness, screen size, regional model and price—not the refresh-rate label alone.
What does 120 Hz mean when buying a TV?
A 120 Hz panel can refresh its image up to 120 times per second. For gaming, the key purchasing question is whether the TV accepts the signal you want: a 4K image at 120 Hz, rather than 120 Hz only at a lower resolution or a motion-smoothing mode that inserts frames into video.
Check the detailed specifications for the exact model and size. A brand name or a “120 Hz” label by itself does not establish 4K 120 Hz input support. Sony’s support article says its model table can be used to determine which TVs support features specified in the HDMI 2.1 standard, and it lists 4K 120 Hz, eARC, VRR and ALLM separately by model series and year. Sony’s HDMI 2.1 model support table also shows why checking the series and any applicable firmware updates matters.

These examples have different strengths and evidence behind them. | Model | What the cited source establishes | Practical fit |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung S85H OLED (2026, UK listing) | Samsung lists 4K 120 Hz on HDMI 1, 2, 3 and 4 for its 55-inch product page. | A strong specification example if several devices need 4K 120 Hz inputs. |
| LG OLED B6E (2026, UK listing) | LG lists up to 120 Hz in 4K, G-SYNC compatibility and FreeSync Premium on its 55-inch product page. | An OLED option for buyers seeking 4K 120 Hz and listed adaptive-sync compatibility; check local port details. |
| Hisense U7SG | RTINGS places it in its lower mid-range 120 Hz category and reports four high-bandwidth ports supporting 4K 120 Hz gaming. | An LCD option for buyers prioritizing brightness; RTINGS notes image-quality trade-offs against the LG C6 OLED. |
| Sony BRAVIA model families | Sony’s model-year table identifies which series support 4K 120 Hz, eARC, VRR and ALLM; the cited table includes 2025 BRAVIA 5 and several 2024 BRAVIA models with 4K 120 Hz and related features. | Consider only after checking the exact series, year and firmware against Sony’s table. |
Product capabilities and reviewed image quality answer different questions. Manufacturer pages establish listed specifications; RTINGS supplies comparative findings for the Hisense U7SG and LG C6, not a universal ranking of every size, market or price.
How should you check gaming features and HDMI ports?
Confirm 4K 120 Hz on the inputs you will use
Look for explicit 4K 120 Hz input support and note which HDMI ports provide it. Samsung’s cited S85H 55-inch UK page names all four HDMI inputs. LG’s cited B6E UK page establishes up to 120 Hz in 4K but does not, in the cited specification, establish the port-by-port allocation; verify the local model’s manual or specifications before connecting multiple high-refresh devices.

Do not assume every input on every TV accepts the same signal. If you need to connect a console and a gaming PC, port count can affect whether you can use both at the target resolution and refresh rate without changing cables.

Check VRR, ALLM and eARC separately
VRR (variable refresh rate) can synchronize the display’s refresh timing with a compatible gaming device; ALLM (auto low latency mode) can switch the TV to a lower-latency picture mode when gameplay begins. eARC is an audio-return feature, not a gaming refresh-rate feature. Sony’s separate columns for these capabilities are a useful reminder that support for one does not prove support for the others.

AMD says compatible FreeSync consoles and certified TVs can reduce choppy gameplay and broken frames, and its page lists selected compatible TVs with 4K 120 Hz. Compatibility depends on the particular display and device, so check both ends rather than treating a logo as a guarantee for every game or setup. OLED is often attractive when deep blacks and dark-room contrast matter. A bright LCD, including a Mini-LED model, may be a better fit when the room is bright or sustained screen brightness is a priority, although LCD designs can show haloing around bright objects against dark backgrounds.

How to choose the right model for your setup
- Identify the exact TV. Record the full model code, screen size, model year and regional suffix. Specifications can vary within a brand’s lineup.
- Match the signal to your device. If your goal is 4K gaming at up to 120 Hz, confirm that the TV accepts 4K 120 Hz input—not merely a 120 Hz mode at another resolution.
- Check the ports you will occupy. Verify the number of HDMI inputs that support the target signal and whether they also support the VRR features your console or GPU uses.
- Choose for the room. Favor OLED if black levels and dark-room viewing lead your priorities; consider a brighter LCD if the room is sunny, while weighing possible haloing and motion differences.
- Compare live prices and availability. The cited evidence does not establish current street prices, inventory or availability across markets. Compare the same size and regional model before deciding value.
What to verify before you buy
- The exact SKU and regional version match the product page or manual you checked.
- Specifications explicitly confirm 4K 120 Hz input on the required HDMI port or ports.
- VRR and ALLM support match your console or graphics card; check eARC separately if you need audio return.
- Firmware requirements are understood, especially for model families whose features Sony marks as software-update dependent.
- Screen size, room brightness and current local price fit your use and budget.
