SlashGear’s August 18, 2026 roundup named 12 Makita tools that met its under-$200 price and customer-rating screen. They cover very different jobs, though: several cordless models are tool-only, two compact CXT tools are described as kits, and the list also includes corded and pneumatic options. Treat “no-brainer” as SlashGear’s value judgment, not a guarantee that a tool suits every workload or remains below $200 today.
What the “under $200” screen means
SlashGear said its picks cost less than $200, averaged at least four stars, and had at least 150 customer ratings when the roundup was written. Those are the publisher’s selection thresholds, not a controlled durability test or a comparison across brands. The prices below are the figures reported in that August 18, 2026 article; they are not verified current offers. Retail price, stock, discounts, seller, and package contents can change. Choose based on your work, not just the sticker price
For a cordless tool you can use right away
Start by checking what comes in the exact SKU. The SH02R1 saw and FD09R1 drill are described as kits with a battery and charger; the CT225SYX combo kit includes two batteries and a charger. In contrast, the XSF03Z requires a separately purchased battery, the XVJ03Z is specified as battery-and-charger-free, and the XRJ01Z listing discussed did not include a battery. A low tool-only price may not be the lowest ready-to-work cost if you also need power equipment.

For a specific cutting or fastening task
Match capacity to the material and cut you actually need. The SH02R1’s maximum depth is 1 inch at 90 degrees, so it is a compact saw rather than a substitute for a deeper-cutting full-size circular saw. The XVJ03Z and JV0600K are both jigsaws, but one is cordless and the other corded; the corded JV0600K specifies a broad 500–3,100 SPM range and included case. The CT225SYX is the only listed package combining a drill and impact driver, while the AF506 is a pneumatic nailer whose operation depends on an air supply and suitable fasteners.

For outdoor cleanup or yard work
The XRU23Z trimmer’s reported “up to one hour” runtime depends on battery and operating conditions, so it is not a guaranteed session length. Likewise, the XBU06Z blower’s up-to-16-minute figure is Makita’s estimate at highest speed with a 6Ah battery, which is sold separately. Compare runtime expectations with the size of the job and the battery package you already own.
For corded shop work
The JV0600K jigsaw, 9557NB grinder, and BO5030K sander do not depend on a cordless battery during use. That avoids buying a battery for these tasks, but it means working near an outlet and managing a cord. For the grinder and sander, verify that the accessory size and type are right for the job and the tool before operating.

Check platform and exact listing before buying
- Confirm the full model number, seller, current price, stock, and whether the listing is for a bare tool or a kit.
- For cordless models, check whether the package includes a battery and charger and whether you need to buy them separately.
- Makita’s CXT, LXT, and XGT names identify separate tool families. Do not assume a battery fits across families; verify compatibility for the exact tool and battery with Makita before purchasing.
- Check included accessories and consumables: the FD09R1 kit does not include bits, the jigsaws require suitable blades, the sander uses abrasives, and the nailer requires compatible brads.
- Consider task frequency and workload. A compact or lower-capacity tool can be a sensible value for occasional work, but the listed specs alone do not establish suitability for every professional duty cycle or material.
