If you own a Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch6, Watch6 Classic, Watch7 or Watch Ultra, these 11 apps cover the most useful health, navigation, music, communication, productivity and outdoor needs. They are an editorial starter list, not a popularity ranking. Compatibility is model- and region-dependent: Samsung’s Wear OS watches use Google Play, while earlier Galaxy Watch generations use Tizen and do not automatically support this list.

Before installing anything, open the Play Store on your watch (or the compatible-device listing in the Play Store phone app) and confirm that the app is offered for your exact model. Google warns that Wear OS experiences can vary by device.

Check your Galaxy Watch before installing apps

Samsung identifies the Galaxy Watch4, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch6, Watch6 Classic, Watch7 and Watch Ultra as Galaxy Watch models running Wear OS. Earlier Galaxy Watch generations use Tizen, so an app available for Wear OS is not automatically available on those watches. Samsung’s current setup guidance is at Samsung’s Wear OS Galaxy watch support page.

Wear OS Galaxy Watches require an Android phone with the services needed by the watch and are not compatible with iPhone. Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 setup also requires a compatible phone; Samsung advises checking with the phone maker that Google Mobile Services (GMS) is supported. Exact requirements can differ by watch, phone, country and software version.

What this list means

The 11 choices below are selected for distinct everyday jobs: health tracking, directions, music, notes, smart-home control, tasks, messaging and outdoor workouts. The official pages establish that these apps are available or showcased for Wear OS, but they do not provide a universal popularity ranking. Your watch’s Play Store listing is the final availability check.

How to install a Wear OS app on Galaxy Watch

  1. From the watch: press the Home key, open Play Store, choose the search icon, and type the app name. Open the result and check that it says it is compatible with your watch.
  2. From your phone: open Google Play while the watch is paired, search for the app, and look for the device selector or “available on more devices” section. Select the Galaxy Watch when it is offered.
  3. Tap Install, accept requested permissions, and wait for the watch to finish downloading. Keep the watch charged and connected to Wi-Fi or the phone during a large installation.
  4. Open the app on the watch and complete sign-in or pairing on the phone if prompted. Some apps need location, notification, microphone, contacts or smart-home permissions to provide their full function.
  5. If an app does not appear, update the watch and Play Store, verify the phone and watch region, and search again. Google’s list of Wear OS apps notes that the experience can vary by device: Google Wear OS app compatibility guidance.

1. Samsung Health: the native starting point for health data

Samsung Health is the practical first install because it is the watch’s native health and activity hub. Samsung lists daily activity, steps, exercise sessions, sleep, heart rate, stress, blood oxygen, body composition and other trackers in its Wear OS watch experience. The app is the easiest place to see the measurements generated by Samsung’s sensors and to review trends alongside phone data.

Best uses

  • Set daily movement, exercise and activity targets.
  • Start and review supported workouts without adding another tracker.
  • Check sleep, heart-rate, stress, blood-oxygen and body-composition readings where your model supports them.
  • Use the phone app for longer-term charts and settings, while the watch provides quick readings.

Sensor availability and readings differ by model and region. Samsung explicitly says its health data and related software are not intended to diagnose, cure, mitigate, treat or prevent disease. Treat measurements as wellness information, not a medical diagnosis.

2. Google Maps: directions without reaching for your phone

Google Maps is available on Wear OS Galaxy Watches and is the most useful navigation install for many owners. Samsung says you can choose travel modes including walking, transit, driving and bicycling. On the watch, Maps is best for checking a route, seeing the next turn and receiving direction prompts while your phone remains in a pocket or bag.

Set it up correctly

  1. Install or update Google Maps on the watch and phone.
  2. Turn on location in the watch’s quick settings or Settings > Location.
  3. When prompted, grant Maps location permission. Samsung’s GPS instructions explain the required settings at Set up GPS on your Galaxy watch.
  4. Start a route in Maps and choose the appropriate travel mode. Confirm the destination and glance at the watch for updates.

Location-dependent functions can fail when location is disabled or permissions are denied. Maps availability is confirmed for Wear OS, but the exact interface and feature set can vary by watch.

  • TRACK YOUR NIGHTS. OWN YOUR DAYS: Galaxy Watch9 gives you personalized recommendations and habit-building guidance with Advanced Sleep Coaching.⁶ Plus, Bedtime Guidance⁷ helps you find your optimal bedtime so you can wake up feeling refreshed.

3. Spotify: playlists and controls from your wrist

Spotify puts music, playlists and playback controls on the watch. It is useful during a walk or workout when you want to change tracks without handling the phone. Samsung’s installation and usage instructions are at Find, install, and use Spotify on your Samsung smart watch.

Free versus Premium

Samsung warns that some watch features may require Spotify Premium. Its guidance says a free account can choose a song, but playback then shuffles rather than playing the selected track on demand. Do not assume that every model supports identical offline or streaming behavior; check the watch listing and your account status before relying on it away from your phone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Free account: music access with shuffle behavior after selecting a song, according to Samsung.
  • Premium account: some additional watch features may be available, but the exact options depend on the app version, watch and region.

4. YouTube Music: another wrist-based music option

YouTube Music is named by Samsung as downloadable from the Play Store on Wear OS watches and appears in Google’s Wear OS app guidance. It is a sensible alternative if your playlists already live in YouTube Music or if you prefer keeping music services separate from Spotify.

Install it from Play Store, sign in on the phone or watch when prompted, and check the app’s current watch listing for supported playback and download features. Google cautions that Wear OS experiences vary by device, so do not infer that a phone feature or an offline mode is present on every Galaxy Watch.

5. Google Fit: a separate activity-tracking option

Google Fit offers workout and activity tracking, including breathing and goal features described by Samsung. It can make sense if your activity history and goals already live in Google Fit or if you use other services that write to Fit.

Important limitation for Galaxy Watch owners

Samsung states that Google Fit data do not sync with Samsung Health. Choosing Fit therefore creates a separate tracking record rather than a second view of Samsung Health measurements. Samsung also says the Galaxy Watch version of Google Fit has no sleep tracker. Read Samsung’s details at Google Fit trackers on Wear OS Galaxy Watches.

6. Google Keep: quick notes and lists

Google Keep is one of the most practical small-screen apps: use it to glance at a shopping list, check a short reminder or capture a brief note without unlocking your phone. Google lists Keep among apps that work with Wear OS at its Wear OS app help page.

Keep is best for short, actionable information rather than editing long documents. Install it on the watch and phone, sign in to the same Google account, and allow notifications if you want reminders to appear on your wrist. The watch experience and available input methods can vary by model, so verify the listing before expecting a specific voice or keyboard workflow.

7. Google Home: quick smart-home control

Google Home is listed by Google as a Wear OS app. It can provide a wrist-based way to check or control compatible smart-home devices when reaching for your phone is inconvenient.

Install it only if your home already uses Google Home-compatible devices and your watch account is connected to the same home. Device controls, tiles and availability can vary by watch, country and smart-home setup; Google’s listing does not guarantee that every phone control appears on every watch. Treat it as a convenience layer, not a replacement for configuring devices in the phone app.

8. Todoist: tasks and reminders where you can see them

Todoist appears in Google’s Wear OS app showcase and is a useful choice for task-focused users. A watch is particularly good for checking the next task, reviewing a short list or capturing a reminder immediately when it occurs.

Practical setup

  • Install the watch and phone versions and sign in to the same Todoist account.
  • Enable notifications only for the projects or priority levels you actually need on your wrist.
  • Use the watch for quick checks and capture; do detailed project organization on the phone or web app.

Do not assume a particular subscription tier or paid feature is required—or included—without checking the current Todoist listing for your region. The available Wear OS functions can change with app updates.

9. WhatsApp: messages, voice replies and calls

Google describes WhatsApp’s Wear OS experience as supporting starting conversations, replying by voice and answering calls. That makes it a strong install for staying reachable when your phone is out of reach.

After installation, grant notification and microphone permissions if you want message alerts and voice replies. Keep expectations realistic on a small display: the watch is suited to short replies and call handling, while searching old conversations or composing long messages remains easier on the phone. Google’s Wear OS showcase is at Wear OS by Google, and availability can vary by device.

10. Strava: dedicated workout and activity recording

Strava is listed by Google as a Wear OS fitness app and can appeal to runners, cyclists and other athletes who already keep their activity history there. Check the watch Play Store listing before a workout, because the available sensors and recording controls depend on the model.

Avoid duplicate recording

Strava warns users not to run it simultaneously with other workout apps on Wear OS. Starting a Samsung Health workout and a Strava recording at the same time can create duplicate sessions or competing sensor access. Choose one app as the recorder for each activity, then let other apps handle viewing or later analysis.

Strava also documents a Galaxy Watch connection caveat: the Galaxy Wearable arrangement and the Wear OS app arrangement are not interchangeable in every setup. Follow Strava’s current instructions at Wear OS and Strava if the watch does not appear during pairing.

11. Komoot: routes and outdoor activities

Komoot is included in Google’s Wear OS app showcase as an option for route planning and outdoor activities. It is worth checking if you plan hikes, rides or walks and already use Komoot for routes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The official pages reviewed do not establish a complete, universal Galaxy Watch feature set or regional availability. Search for Komoot in the watch’s Play Store and read the compatible-device information before planning an outing around it. Test a short route first, with your phone and a backup navigation method available, rather than assuming every phone feature is present on the watch.

Which apps should you install first?

Your priority Start with Why
Health and daily activity Samsung Health Native access to Samsung’s listed activity, exercise and health trackers
Walking, driving or transit directions Google Maps Wear OS directions with multiple travel modes; requires location permissions
Music on the wrist Spotify or YouTube Music Choose the service that already holds your playlists; Spotify’s features vary by account
Google-based activity goals Google Fit Useful if your history is already in Fit, but it is separate from Samsung Health and has no watch sleep tracker
Short notes and lists Google Keep Fast glance and capture use case
Smart-home controls Google Home Convenient wrist access when compatible devices are already configured
Tasks and reminders Todoist Quick task review and capture
Messaging and calls WhatsApp Conversation starts, voice replies and calls as described by Google
Structured training history Strava Dedicated activity option; do not record simultaneously in another workout app
Hiking and route planning Komoot Outdoor option to verify in your exact Play Store listing

Permissions, battery and data choices

Install only the apps you will use. Every added notification channel, location request, background sync and sensor session can increase interruptions or battery use. During setup, grant the minimum permission that matches the feature you want: location for Maps, microphone for voice replies, notifications for reminders and messages, and smart-home access only for the devices you intend to control.

Health and workout apps may present overlapping sensor readings. Decide which app is your primary recorder before starting an exercise session. In particular, Strava advises against simultaneous recording with another Wear OS workout app, while Samsung Health and Google Fit maintain separate data sets rather than a shared history.

Troubleshoot an app that is missing or not working

The app does not appear in Play Store

  • Confirm that your watch is a Wear OS model, not an earlier Tizen model.
  • Check that the watch, phone and Google account are set to a supported country or region.
  • Update Wear OS, Play Store and the phone companion app, then search again.
  • Look for the app’s compatible-device selector on the paired phone; Google says the experience can vary by device.

Installation stops or pairing fails

  • Keep the watch on its charger, connect it to Wi-Fi and keep Bluetooth enabled on the phone.
  • Open the phone version first and sign in before launching the watch version.
  • Review permissions in Settings > Apps > [app name] on the watch and phone.
  • For Strava, follow its Wear OS connection instructions rather than assuming the Galaxy Wearable app alone completes setup.

Directions or workout data are wrong

  • For Maps, enable location and grant the requested permission; Samsung’s GPS guide covers the required settings.
  • For workouts, avoid recording the same activity in multiple apps.
  • Allow the watch time to acquire GPS outdoors before starting a route, and keep the phone nearby until you have confirmed the app’s behavior on your model.

Bottom line: build a small, compatible app set

Install Samsung Health and Google Maps first, then add one music service, one activity platform and only the productivity, messaging or outdoor apps that match your routine. Spotify and Google Fit have explicit account or data limitations; Strava requires a single workout recorder; Komoot and other Wear OS apps need an exact-model check. The Play Store listing on your own Galaxy Watch remains the authoritative compatibility test.
