There is no fixed payout for 100,000 Spotify streams. Spotify calculates royalties from each rights holder’s share of streams in a market, then pays rights holders—not artists directly. The artist’s actual income depends on rights ownership, contracts, fees, and whether advances have been recouped.
Why 100,000 streams do not have a set price
Spotify says it directs roughly two-thirds of its music revenue from Premium subscriptions and Free-tier advertising into a royalty pool. It allocates that pool using streamshare: a rightsholder’s streams as a proportion of all streams in a given country and month. The rightsholder receives a share of that market’s pool based on its streamshare. Spotify’s explanation of how artists and songwriters get paid and its Royalties Guide describe this approach.

So-called per-stream rates are usually retrospective averages: someone divides royalties generated by a number of streams. They are not prices Spotify promises for individual plays. Revenue in the relevant markets and the artist’s agreements with the rights holders both affect what a given stream count means financially.
What Spotify’s published figures do—and do not—show
- Spotify’s 2025 illustration says one in a million total Spotify streams generated about $11,000. It illustrates streamshare across the platform; it is not a guaranteed rate to multiply by a track’s streams. Spotify Loud & Clear’s FAQ
- Spotify reported paying more than $11 billion to the music industry in 2025. That is an industry-wide total, not direct artist payments. Spotify Newsroom, March 11, 2026
- Spotify also reported that more than 13,800 artists generated at least $100,000 from Spotify alone in 2025. This describes a group of artists’ annual Spotify-generated royalties; it does not predict what any one track earns at 100,000 streams. Spotify Newsroom, March 11, 2026
Who receives Spotify royalties
Spotify pays rights holders, who distribute money onward under their agreements. Recording royalties go to recorded-music rights holders, commonly a label or distributor. Publishing royalties concern the composition and go to songwriters or composition owners through publishers, performance-rights organizations, and mechanical agencies, depending on territory. These are separate rights and payment paths. Spotify for Artists’ Royalties Guide

As a result, a royalty figure reported as “generated” may not equal the artist’s take-home payment. The contract may specify a share, fees, administrative costs, or recoupment of an advance before the artist receives money. Spotify advises artists to review agreements and statements and check whether advances have been recouped. Spotify Loud & Clear’s FAQ
Why two tracks with 100,000 streams can produce different results
The same stream count does not guarantee the same royalty amount or artist payout. Relevant differences include:

The 1,000-stream rule for recording royalties
Since April 2024, a track must have at least 1,000 streams in the preceding 12 months to be included in Spotify’s recorded-music royalty pool. Spotify says this threshold does not apply to publishing royalties. A track with 100,000 streams is above the stated threshold, but eligibility alone does not establish how much the rights holder receives or how much the artist gets. Spotify for Artists’ Royalties Guide
How to find what your 100,000 streams generated
- Check the royalty report from your label or distributor. Confirm its reporting period and the amount attributed to Spotify. Spotify says this report is the most accurate source for understanding royalties generated from Spotify streams. Spotify Loud & Clear’s FAQ
- Identify which rights the amount covers. Check whether the report concerns recording royalties, publishing royalties, or both; they are accounted for through different rights-holder channels.
- Review territories and stream adjustments. See which markets contributed and whether confirmed artificial streams were removed. A third-party counter may therefore differ from the qualifying or reported count.
- Read the relevant agreements and statement details. Check your royalty percentage, fees, administrative charges, and any remaining advance recoupment to determine your share of the amount generated.
For an individual artist, the rights-holder report and contract are more useful than applying an average per-stream estimate to the public stream count.
