A 1000 Hz monitor can suit competitive gaming, but the headline number alone does not make it the best choice. Its appeal depends on whether your PC and games can deliver very high frame rates—and whether you prefer the resolution available at that refresh rate. Some monitors reach their peak only in a lower-resolution mode, and the manufacturer announcements available here do not establish that 1000 Hz produces a noticeable competitive advantage for every player.
What does 1000 Hz mean on a gaming monitor?
Refresh rate is how many times per second a display can update its image. At 1000 Hz, the interval between refreshes is 1 millisecond, calculated as 1,000 milliseconds divided by 1,000 updates. That is an interpretation of the refresh-rate specification—not a claim that the entire process from your input to visible pixels takes 1 millisecond.
A 1000 Hz rating also does not mean a game is rendering 1,000 distinct frames per second. The display’s refresh capability and the game’s frame rate are different: the PC, game, operating system, graphics driver, and any game-specific frame-rate limit can all affect the frames actually produced. LG calls out these dependencies for the UltraGear 25G590B in its U.S. announcement.
Is 1000 Hz a good choice for your games?
It may make sense if you play competitive games, prioritize fast motion updates, and have hardware capable of driving very high frame rates. It is less compelling if reaching those frame rates is unrealistic for your system or if the resolution required for the monitor’s peak mode is not one you want to use.

Whether the difference is perceptible—and whether it improves competitive results—cannot be concluded from the manufacturer announcements discussed here. Those announcements specify product modes and promote potential player benefits; they are not independent, controlled comparisons of 1000 Hz against lower refresh rates. Consider the mode you would actually use, rather than buying on the peak figure alone.

What does the LG UltraGear 25G590B require to reach 1000 Hz?
In its U.S. release, LG says the 25G590B’s maximum refresh rate of up to 1000 Hz requires Windows 11, a supported recent graphics card—NVIDIA RTX 50 series or AMD Radeon RX 9070, 9060, or 7900 series, or newer—and DisplayPort 2.1. LG also says actual performance can vary with PC specifications, game frame-rate limits, the operating system, and graphics drivers. How to decide whether you need 1000 Hz
- Check the resolution at the advertised peak. Compare the resolution you will actually use—not just the monitor’s maximum refresh rate. In the examples above, some peak modes use HD rather than QHD.
- Check your PC and connection. Match your system and display connection to the requirements for the mode you want. LG’s requirements apply specifically to the 25G590B.
- Consider the games you play. A monitor cannot make a game render at 1000 frames per second if the PC or the game’s own limit prevents it.
- Weigh the trade-offs you care about. Decide whether the peak refresh rate is worth any resolution change, compatibility constraints, or cost for your use.
- Check local product details before purchase. Launch announcements are time- and region-specific; confirm the current model specifications, availability, and price with the manufacturer or retailer.
