The closest a smartwatch comes to replacing your phone is an LTE model with an eSIM. It can make and receive calls, handle messages, stream or play downloaded music, provide navigation and run apps while your phone stays at home. GPS, offline music, maps and contactless payments also remove many reasons to carry a phone, but no watch duplicates every phone app or camera. Choose platform compatibility first: Apple Watch requires an iPhone, while Pixel and Galaxy Wear OS watches require Android.
Ten smartwatches that reduce phone dependence
The table separates true cellular independence from watches that mainly cover phone tasks when your phone is nearby. Cellular service normally requires a compatible carrier plan, and availability varies by country.
| Watch | Phone-reducing features | Best fit | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch Series 10 GPS + Cellular | eSIM calls, notifications, music streaming, GPS and health apps | iPhone users wanting a balanced everyday watch | Requires an iPhone and a carrier plan for cellular |
| Google Pixel Watch 3 LTE | LTE calls, Google Maps, Wallet and Wear OS apps | Android users invested in Google services | The 42 mm model lasted around 24 hours in cited 2025 testing; LTE reduces endurance further |
| Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra | Cellular service, calls, Spotify or YouTube Music, notifications and GPS | Rugged Android users | Large case and battery criticism in the cited review |
| Samsung Galaxy Watch7 LTE | Cellular calls and messages, Wear OS apps, payments and GPS | Mainstream Samsung phone owners | Depends on the Android/Samsung ecosystem |
| Samsung Galaxy Watch6 LTE | Cellular calls and messages plus Wear OS functions | Buyers considering prior-generation pricing | Older generation |
| Huawei Watch 5 LTE | eSIM calls and messages, Petal Maps, ECG spot checks, blood-oxygen readings and fitness tracking | Health-focused Android users | Smaller app ecosystem and limited streaming options |
| Apple Watch SE 2 GPS + Cellular | Notifications, calls and music away from an iPhone | Lower-cost iPhone entry point | Older hardware and iPhone requirement |
| Apple Watch Ultra 2 | LTE, bright rugged display, outdoor bands and safety features | Outdoor and endurance-focused iPhone users | Apple quotes 36 hours of standard battery life; LTE use is heavier |
| Garmin Forerunner 945 LTE | LiveTrack, Assistance Plus, live event tracking and encouragement | Runners prioritizing safety | The cited guide lists US-only availability, and it is an older model |
| Garmin Venu 3 | Onboard GPS, downloaded music and contactless payments | Fitness users who can keep a phone nearby | Not a full standalone LTE phone replacement |
What LTE and eSIM actually change
An LTE smartwatch contains a cellular radio and an eSIM that connects to a carrier data plan. As Wareable explained in its 2025 LTE guide, the watch can use the carrier connection instead of relying on the phone’s Bluetooth or Wi-Fi link. That enables calls, messages, compatible apps, music streaming and cloud services when the phone is absent.
Activation is not automatic. The watch, phone, carrier and region must support the same cellular service, and most carriers charge an additional line or wearable fee. A watch may show an LTE signal yet lose access to a particular app if that app lacks a watch version or offline mode.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Platform compatibility comes before features
Apple Watch
Every Apple Watch in this list requires an iPhone for setup and ongoing ecosystem compatibility. Series 10 and SE 2 offer cellular variants; Ultra 2 includes LTE as standard. An Android phone cannot substitute for the required iPhone.
Pixel and Galaxy Wear OS
Pixel Watch 3 LTE and Samsung’s LTE models require Android. Galaxy watches are the natural match for Samsung phones, and some health or account features can depend on Samsung services. Pixel Watch is aimed at users already using Google’s Maps, Wallet and other services.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Huawei and Garmin
Huawei Watch 5 LTE offers cellular calling and messaging but has fewer third-party apps and streaming choices. Garmin’s Forerunner 945 LTE focuses on safety and event communication rather than acting as a general-purpose phone. Venu 3 has no standalone LTE phone function.
How the ten watches handle everyday phone tasks
Calls and messages
Cellular Apple, Pixel, Galaxy and Huawei models can place or receive calls away from the phone when the carrier plan and watch apps are configured. Messaging depth varies by platform: notifications may mirror the phone, while a native watch app can support replies, contacts and conversation history. Garmin’s LTE features are designed around tracking and assistance rather than unrestricted calling.

Maps and navigation
GPS works without a phone on all the listed models that include it. Pixel Watch 3 adds Google Maps over LTE, Huawei Watch 5 provides Petal Maps, and Apple, Samsung and Garmin watches can use their platform’s navigation capabilities. Downloaded routes are useful where cellular coverage is poor, but map detail and rerouting depend on the watch software.
Music, payments and apps
Streaming services require LTE or Wi-Fi; downloaded playlists work without either connection after they have been synchronized. Pixel Watch 3, Galaxy models and Apple cellular watches can combine app support with a wallet for purchases. Venu 3 demonstrates the offline approach: downloaded music and contactless payments cover two common phone tasks even though the watch is not a cellular phone.

Battery trade-offs are unavoidable
Cellular radios, live GPS, streaming and bright always-on displays consume more power than Bluetooth-connected use. In Wareable’s 2025 cited testing, the 42 mm Pixel Watch 3 lasted around 24 hours, with LTE reducing runtime further. Apple quotes 36 hours for Ultra 2 in standard use and up to 18 hours of all-day LTE battery life with a service plan, figures attributed to Apple’s product information. Huawei Watch 5 was reported at three to four days, falling to about two days with LTE and the always-on display enabled.

Health and safety features need qualification
ECG spot checks, blood-oxygen readings, workout tracking, fall detection, emergency calling and location sharing differ by model. Huawei Watch 5 lists ECG and blood-oxygen checks; Apple Ultra 2 emphasizes outdoor and safety functions; Garmin Forerunner 945 LTE provides LiveTrack, Assistance Plus, live event tracking and encouragement. Availability of medical features can be restricted by country, regulatory approval or a subscription, so verify the feature for your region before relying on it in an emergency.
How to choose the right level of independence
- Match the phone platform. Pick Apple Watch only if you use an iPhone; choose Pixel or Galaxy Wear OS for Android; consider Huawei or Garmin when their narrower ecosystems fit your priorities.
- Decide whether you need true cellular service. Select LTE/eSIM for independent calls, messages and online apps. Choose GPS-only when downloaded music, navigation, payments and notifications are enough.
- Check carrier and country support. Confirm wearable-plan compatibility, eSIM activation and whether your carrier lets the watch share your phone number.
- Prioritize your main activity. Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch Ultra suit demanding outdoor use; Forerunner 945 LTE is oriented toward runner safety; Venu 3 suits fitness users who normally keep a phone close.
- Budget for ownership, not just the watch. Add the recurring carrier fee for LTE and account for potentially shorter battery cycles and more frequent charging.
What LTE still cannot replace
A cellular watch does not provide the phone’s full display, keyboard, camera, storage or complete app catalog. Setup still generally requires a compatible phone, and many services stop working when the watch lacks an approved regional app or a data connection. For long messages, complex navigation, photography and intensive web use, the phone remains the better tool.
