The Philippine peso sign is ₱. Its Unicode code point is U+20B1, although Microsoft Word’s keyboard method uses only 20B1 followed by Alt+X.
Use the method for your device below. If a shortcut does not work, copy this character directly: ₱.
Type ₱ in Microsoft Word on Windows
Method 1: Use the Unicode code
- Click where you want to insert the sign.
- Type
20B1. - Press Alt+X.
Word converts 20B1 to ₱. Do not type U+20B1; the U+ prefix is not part of Word’s input method.

If the code is beside other hexadecimal characters—for example, within a longer string—select only 20B1 before pressing Alt+X. Otherwise, Word may treat the adjacent characters as part of the code.

This method is documented for Word for Microsoft 365, Word 2024, Word 2021, Word 2019, and Word 2016. Microsoft’s instructions are available in its guide to ASCII and Unicode character codes.
Method 2: Insert it from Word’s Symbol menu
- Open the Insert tab.
- Select Symbol, then More Symbols.
- In the category list, choose Currency Symbols.
- Select ₱.
- Click Insert, then close the dialog.
This is useful when you cannot remember the code or when Alt+X is unavailable in the Office program you are using.
Use Character Map on Windows
Character Map lets you select the peso sign from a font and copy it to the clipboard.

Characters are font-dependent. If the sign is missing, try Segoe UI Symbol, which Microsoft identifies as having a large Unicode collection. A missing glyph may also appear as a blank box or replacement character; that points to a font or rendering limitation rather than an incorrect code point.

What about Alt+8369 in Windows?
Alt+8369 is not a universal Windows shortcut for ₱. It is often listed online, but it should not be confused with Word’s documented Unicode method. Word uses 20B1 plus Alt+X; traditional numeric-keypad Alt input is a different mechanism.
When an application supports numeric-keypad Alt codes, you need the dedicated numeric keypad—not the number row—and Num Lock may need to be enabled. Results can vary between applications, so Character Map or the application’s symbol menu is more reliable.
Microsoft also notes that some Office programs, including PowerPoint and InfoPath, cannot convert Unicode codes with Alt+X. In those programs, insert the sign through Character Map or another symbol-insertion option.
Type ₱ on a Mac
- Press Control+Command+Space to open Character Viewer.
- Choose Currency Symbols.
- Double-click ₱.
The sign is inserted into the active document or application. There is no verified standard macOS shortcut using Option+20B1; Character Viewer is the documented method.

- Slide to ₱ and release.

Why can’t I find ₱ on my phone keyboard?
The available currency symbols depend on the keyboard app, language, and region. On iPhone or iPad, add the Filipino keyboard or set the region to Philippines. On Android, try the symbols layout and hold the $ key.
Why does ₱ appear as a box?
The selected font or application may not have a glyph for U+20B1 or may not render the Unicode character correctly. Try another font, such as Segoe UI Symbol on Windows, or insert it through Character Map.
The Bottom Line
For Microsoft Word, type 20B1 and press Alt+X. On Windows generally, use Character Map; on Mac, open Character Viewer with Control+Command+Space. Google Docs, Android, and Apple devices each provide a symbol or keyboard option, and copying ₱ is the fastest fallback.
