You can bring uplink data from LoRaWAN devices registered with The Things Stack Community (formerly commonly called The Things Network, or TTN) into ThingsBoard using its built-in TTN/TTS integration. The Things Stack forwards messages over MQTT; a ThingsBoard uplink converter maps the incoming payload into device telemetry and attributes. ThingsBoard documents this integration as a Professional Edition feature, so check your deployment’s edition and version before following setup steps.

How the integration works

The Things Stack Community is the LoRaWAN network-server side of the connection; ThingsBoard is the IoT platform side. A device’s radio traffic reaches the network server through the LoRaWAN infrastructure, then The Things Stack publishes its uplink message over MQTT to the ThingsBoard integration. ThingsBoard processes the message and can create a device on first contact.

ThingsBoard describes its integration as connecting ThingsBoard to The Things Network (TTN), “the world’s largest public LoRaWAN network.” That is vendor wording, not an independent network ranking. See the ThingsBoard The Things Stack Community integration guide for the documented flow.

Check edition and network type first

ThingsBoard lists “The Things Network (TTN / TTS)” among its LoRaWAN network-server integrations and marks it as a Professional Edition feature. Its Platform Integrations documentation also identifies integrations as a Professional Edition feature. Do not assume the built-in integration is available in every Community Edition deployment; verify the edition and deployment version you use against the ThingsBoard connectivity guide.

  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The Community integration is for The Things Stack Community. ThingsBoard documents a separate integration for The Things Stack Industries, intended for a different, private tenant context. Choose based on the network service or tenant where your devices are registered; the available documentation does not establish a detailed feature or cost comparison between the two.

Configure uplinks and payload conversion

The uplink converter is the key mapping step: it turns the message received from the network server into ThingsBoard device identity, telemetry, and attributes. There is no universal mapping that fits every device or application. Inspect the actual payload emitted by your The Things Stack configuration, then use or write a converter that matches its field names and data types. The ThingsBoard integrations guide explains the converter role and integration message flows.

  • Confirm that the uplink arrives through the MQTT connection configured for your Things Stack Community environment.
  • Check which payload fields identify the device and which contain measurements or descriptive attributes.
  • Match the converter to the real payload structure and types rather than assuming a sample mapping applies to your devices.
  • After processing, verify that the expected ThingsBoard device, telemetry, and attributes appear.

Add downlink only when devices need commands

Downlink is optional if the goal is only to ingest telemetry. To send commands from ThingsBoard, configure a downlink converter to encode the message in the format expected by the external platform, and route it through an Integration Downlink rule node. In the documented Community flow, ThingsBoard publishes the converted message back to The Things Stack over the MQTT connection, and the network server delivers it to the device. ThingsBoard summarizes the two directions as “uplink (device ⇾ ThingsBoard) and downlink (ThingsBoard ⇾ device)” in its integration documentation.

Use current documentation for connection settings

The precise console fields and MQTT settings depend on the Things Stack region or tenant and on your ThingsBoard deployment version. Use the current service console and the guide for your deployment rather than copying connection values from an unrelated example. The available documentation does not establish universal broker addresses, topics, or credentials for every environment.

Be especially careful with older search results: several legacy TTN pages explicitly identify themselves as TTN V2 documentation, say they are no longer maintained, and point readers to The Things Stack V3. Do not carry over their old *.thethings.network broker addresses, topic formats, credentials, or console procedures without validating them for your current service. See the legacy-page notice at The Things Network documentation and use the current ThingsBoard Community integration guide for this integration.
