| Remaker AI | General-purpose web image creation | Face swap alongside AI image and video tools, restoration, background removal, and upscaling | The available official information provides fewer face-swap specifications than some competitors. |
How to choose an AI face-swap tool
- Want local control? Start with FaceFusion. It can run on your own machine, reducing the need to send source media to a hosted service, although local operation does not by itself prove that every component is offline or private.
- Want the fastest browser experiment? Compare Vidnoz, Magic Hour, Pica AI, and DeepSwap. Look at the supported media, number of faces, free-tier restrictions, and retention language—not just the preview image.
- Need several people replaced? DeepSwap, Magic Hour, and Pica AI explicitly describe multi-face workflows. Their stated limits differ, so confirm the current limit before preparing a large project.
- Need business or agency production? Evaluate HeyGen and AKOOL first, then check commercial rights, data-processing terms, API access, and whether the plan permits the intended client or advertising use.
- Want a phone app and ready-made templates? Reface is the most natural fit for casual mobile entertainment.
- Need to retouch the result afterward? Pixlr is a better fit for still images because face swapping sits inside a larger editing suite. Remaker is also useful when several general-purpose AI image functions are wanted in one web tool.
- Need many creative variants? GoEnhance is worth considering for video-oriented work and batch image concepts, but every output should be reviewed by a person.
The 11 best AI face-swap tools
1. HeyGen — best for polished business video and avatar workflows
HeyGen’s official face-swap page supports swapping a face into photos, videos, and GIFs. The workflow is built around uploading source material and generating a result, but the larger product also includes talking avatars and video-creation features.

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
That combination makes HeyGen a sensible first stop for marketers, presenters, and teams that want face swapping as one part of a broader video-production workflow. It may be more useful than a narrowly focused meme generator when a project also needs avatar-led presentation or marketing variants.
Watch-outs: Do not assume that every output is commercially cleared or that the service is always free. Rights, limits, and available features depend on the applicable plan and terms. Confirm those details before using a likeness in paid advertising, client work, or public-facing campaigns.
2. FaceFusion — best for local processing and advanced control
FaceFusion is the strongest inclusion for technically capable users who prioritize local control over a polished hosted interface. Its official site presents it as an enterprise-oriented face-manipulation platform that can run on a user’s machine, and the project publishes source code through GitHub.
Beyond face swapping, the platform highlights enhancement, lip syncing, expression restoration, age modification, background removal, and related modules. That breadth makes it relevant to VFX experimentation and custom workflows rather than only quick social posts.
Trade-off: Local software is not necessarily one-click software. Installation, model selection, hardware compatibility, drivers, and output settings can require troubleshooting. A local workflow may reduce cloud-upload exposure, but you still need to understand the software, models, dependencies, and any network-connected components before treating it as a privacy guarantee.
3. Magic Hour — best for quick browser-based video and multi-face swaps
Magic Hour supports photo, video, and GIF face swaps in a browser, including both single-face and multiple-face modes. Its official product page also advertises limited free use without signing up, an API, and commercial-use language for paid users.
The free and paid distinctions matter. The product page says free video output is subject to restrictions such as short clips, lower resolution, watermarks, and personal-use limitations. Paid tiers provide higher-quality or expanded capabilities, but the exact allowance should be verified for the current plan.
Magic Hour’s documentation says its API processes video frame by frame. It recommends a clear, high-resolution, front-facing source image, stable lighting, visible faces, and moderate motion. Those conditions improve the odds of a clean result; they are not a promise that every frame will look realistic.
Best fit: short-form video, GIFs, quick experiments, group scenes, and developers who want to explore an API rather than build a complete local pipeline.
4. Vidnoz Face Swap — best for an accessible free browser workflow
Vidnoz offers a straightforward cloud-based face-swap process for image and video uploads. Its official page lists common formats including JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, MP4, M4V, MOV, and WEBM, and describes an optional HD setting.
This is a practical choice for beginners who want to upload media and generate a result without installing desktop software. The broad format list is also useful if your source file comes from a phone or a typical video editor.
Vidnoz recommends clear, high-quality source faces and warns users not to use unauthorized images or videos. That warning is important: an easy interface does not grant permission to use someone else’s likeness, copyrighted footage, or private media. Check current export limits, account requirements, watermarks, and terms before treating a free result as publishable or commercial.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors5. DeepSwap — best for multi-face video editing
DeepSwap is a strong candidate when a project involves a group scene or a longer clip. Its official materials say it supports up to six faces in one video and describe handling for conditions such as occlusion, different angles, changing expressions, lighting variation, and video jitter.
The interface accepts video, photo, and GIF inputs. The product page lists large upload limits, including videos up to 45 minutes and 1.5 GB, although those figures are subject to current account and plan restrictions.
These are vendor claims, not independent performance results. A tool can advertise support for difficult angles or motion while still producing inconsistent frames when a face is briefly hidden, blurred, turned away, or badly lit. Test a representative sample before committing a full-length production.

Best fit: multi-person scenes, longer clips, and projects where replacing more than one face is more important than having a local workflow.
6. AKOOL — best for commercial and enterprise-oriented creative production
AKOOL positions face swap as one feature in a broader AI video suite that also includes avatars, translation, image generation, and related production tools. Its official face-swap page describes high-resolution outputs, natural expressions, and lighting adaptation.
That positioning makes AKOOL relevant to agencies, advertisers, and brands exploring personalized creative at scale. A team may be able to evaluate face swapping alongside other production functions instead of stitching together several separate services.
Before using it for client work: verify the commercial-use grant, API terms, plan limits, data processing, retention, and permissions for every likeness and source asset. High-resolution output or a business-oriented product description does not automatically mean that every use case is legally or contractually cleared.
7. Reface — best for mobile entertainment and templates
Reface is the clearest choice here for mobile-first entertainment. The company describes Reface as a mobile product combining face swaps and AI avatars, with templates designed for memes, short clips, and casual social sharing.

That is a company-reported marketing metric, not an independent measurement of current active users or output quality.
Its technology page says uploaded photos are converted into face embeddings. It also says original photos are removed from cloud storage within 48 hours and that embeddings are erased from its database by the fourth day. According to the same page, generated results and trained models may remain for longer periods. If the material is sensitive, read the current privacy policy and terms rather than relying only on the summary.
Best fit: phone users who want ready-made templates and entertainment, not necessarily a controllable desktop production pipeline.
8. Pixlr AI Face Swap — best for image editing in a broader design suite
Pixlr places AI face swapping inside a larger browser-based photo-editing platform. Its dedicated tool describes a three-step workflow: upload the source face, upload a target image or choose a template, and generate the result.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The main advantage is what happens after the swap. Pixlr also offers broader image editing, generative fill, background removal, enhancement, and design features, so a user can continue adjusting the composition instead of exporting to another editor immediately.
The dedicated face-swap page is primarily image-oriented. Do not choose Pixlr expecting feature parity with specialist video tools such as a multi-face video workflow or a long-video processing pipeline.
Best fit: still images, social graphics, templates, composites, and users who want post-swap cleanup in the same browser application.
9. Pica AI — best for simple image and short-video experimentation
Pica AI supports face swaps in photos and videos and accepts one or more target faces. Its official page says that up to three faces can be swapped in one photo or video, making it more flexible than a strictly single-face tool for small group edits.
The service emphasizes templates and casual creative uses such as memes, alternate looks, and character-style edits. It also states that uploaded photos are deleted within 24 hours. That retention statement should be attributed to the vendor; it is not an independently audited guarantee.
Best fit: casual creators who want a simple web workflow, especially for image swaps, templates, and small group scenes. Check current video length, output quality, credit, and watermark rules before selecting it for a larger project.

10. GoEnhance AI — best for video-oriented creative variations
GoEnhance’s documentation lists video face swap alongside video-to-video stylization, character animation, image enhancement, and upscaling. Its batch face-swap workflow is aimed at applying one face across multiple photos, refreshing group images, and exploring campaign or creator variations.
This makes it useful when the goal is not just one replacement but a set of visual concepts. It can also fit creators who want to stylize or enhance the result in the same general toolset.
Recommended Free Tools
The vendor cautions that batch outputs should be reviewed individually and that the workflow is a weaker fit for regulated advertising or official identity materials without human review. Treat that as a practical limitation: batch generation can multiply a small alignment or identity error across many files.
11. Remaker AI — best for a broad web image-creation toolkit
Remaker’s official homepage lists face swap alongside AI image creation, AI video, restoration, background removal, image upscaling, and other image-processing features. It is a reasonable option for users who want face swapping as part of a general-purpose web image toolkit rather than a dedicated specialist application.
The available official information provides less detailed face-swap specification than some competitors. Avoid assuming exact video limits, retention periods, output quality, or commercial licensing unless the current product page and terms state them clearly.
Best fit: general web image editing and experimentation when having several AI image functions in one service matters more than a documented multi-face or privacy-specific feature.

Which tool should you use?
For local privacy control: FaceFusion
Choose FaceFusion if keeping source media on your own computer is a priority and you are comfortable with technical setup. Local processing can reduce the need to upload photos and videos to a vendor. It also gives advanced users more opportunity to control models and workflow components.
The trade-off is time and complexity. You may need compatible hardware, the correct models, configuration, and troubleshooting. If you need a result immediately and do not want to manage a local installation, a browser tool will be easier.
For a quick browser result: Magic Hour or Vidnoz
Magic Hour is the more natural fit when GIFs, multiple faces, an API, or clearly described free-versus-paid video restrictions matter. Vidnoz is attractive for beginners who want a broad set of common upload formats and a simple interface.
Neither browser convenience nor a free entry point answers the privacy or commercial-use questions. Confirm where media is processed, how long it is retained, whether free exports are watermarked, and whether the intended use is permitted.
For multi-person scenes: DeepSwap, Magic Hour, or Pica AI
DeepSwap’s official materials state support for up to six faces in a video. Magic Hour describes single- and multiple-face modes, while Pica AI says it supports up to three faces in one photo or video. Those stated limits are not interchangeable, and they may change by plan.
For a group scene, also consider whether faces remain visible and large enough throughout the footage. A nominal face-count limit does not guarantee clean results when people overlap, turn away, or move quickly.
For business production: HeyGen or AKOOL
HeyGen connects face swapping with avatars and video creation. AKOOL places it within a wider suite for avatars, translation, image generation, and marketing-oriented production. Both are more relevant to teams than a template-only mobile app.
Business suitability depends on more than features. Before uploading customer or employee likenesses, review data-processing terms, retention, account controls, API rules, commercial rights, and any restrictions on advertising, political content, regulated industries, or identity-related materials.
For mobile entertainment: Reface
Reface is the most obvious option when the project begins and ends on a phone and the goal is a meme, template, avatar, or short social clip. It is less suitable when you need local processing, frame-level control, or a carefully documented professional pipeline.

Pixlr has the clearest advantage when the face swap needs retouching, compositing, background changes, or other design work afterward. Pica AI is a straightforward choice for casual templates and small group edits. Remaker is worth considering when face swapping is only one of several general-purpose AI image operations you need.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to get a cleaner face-swap result
Official documentation from several tools points to the same basic input conditions. These recommendations improve the chance of a usable output, but no tool can guarantee realism.
- Use a clear, high-resolution source face. A front-facing image with enough detail gives the system more usable facial information than a tiny, compressed, or heavily filtered portrait.
- Match the lighting. Keep the source and target reasonably similar in brightness and direction. Strong shadows, colored lighting, or a bright background can make the inserted face look disconnected.
- Choose a visible target face. Sunglasses, hands, hair, masks, props, heavy occlusion, and extreme head turns can reduce quality or cause a failed swap.
- Prefer moderate motion. Motion blur, rapid movement, camera shake, and frequent cuts make frame-by-frame video processing more difficult. Start with a short, stable clip before attempting a long sequence.
- Keep the face large enough in the frame. A distant subject gives the system fewer pixels to analyze and makes small errors more noticeable after export.
- Check every important frame. Look for flicker, drifting facial boundaries, mismatched skin tone, eye or mouth artifacts, identity changes between frames, and errors when the subject turns or becomes partially hidden.
- Use a representative test clip. A clean opening frame can be misleading. Test the lighting, angles, movement, and number of people that actually appear in the final project.
Free plans, paid plans, and commercial use
Free access is not the same as unrestricted use. Magic Hour’s official page distinguishes free video output—with restrictions such as short clips, lower resolution, watermarks, and personal-use limitations—from paid capabilities that include commercial-use language. Other services may impose their own credit, export, watermark, data-use, or licensing conditions.
Before publishing or selling a result, check all of the following:
- Whether the specific plan permits commercial, client, advertising, or monetized social use.
- Whether the output has a watermark, resolution limit, duration limit, or credit requirement.
- Whether the service grants rights to the generated result and under what conditions.
- Whether you have permission to use the face, source image, target footage, music, logos, and other assets.
- Whether an API or business plan has different data-processing and retention terms from the consumer interface.
- Whether the service restricts political, identity-related, adult, celebrity, or other sensitive applications.
Do not describe any tool as universally commercially cleared. A platform may provide a commercial-use option while still requiring the customer to obtain likeness, copyright, publicity, or other permissions.
Privacy checklist before uploading a face
Face images are sensitive personal data in many contexts. Read the current privacy notice and terms for the tool you choose, particularly if the image belongs to another person or is connected to a client project.
- Find the retention statement. Look for how long original uploads, face embeddings, generated files, logs, and backups are kept.
- Check training and improvement language. Determine whether uploads or outputs may be used to train or improve models, and whether there is an opt-out.
- Identify third-party processing. A browser interface may send media to cloud infrastructure or service providers.
- Understand deletion controls. A stated automatic deletion period may apply only to original uploads, not generated results, embeddings, or backups.
- Minimize the material. Use only the files needed, avoid sensitive background details, and delete cloud results when the project no longer requires them.
- Consider local processing. FaceFusion may be preferable when avoiding a hosted upload is more important than installation convenience, but inspect the complete local setup rather than assuming that local means risk-free.
For comparison, Reface’s technology page says original photos are removed from cloud storage within 48 hours and face embeddings are erased from its database by the fourth day, while generated results and trained models may remain longer. Pica AI’s official page says uploaded photos are deleted within 24 hours. These are vendor statements and should be rechecked before uploading sensitive material.

Consent, disclosure, and legal safety
Face swapping can be harmless creative editing, but it can also facilitate impersonation, fraud, misinformation, privacy harm, and nonconsensual intimate imagery. NIST identifies these as synthetic-media risks and notes that detection becomes more difficult as generated media becomes more realistic.
Use these rules as a baseline:
- Use your own likeness or obtain permission from every identifiable person depicted.
- Do not use an unauthorized person’s face to suggest that they said, did, or endorsed something.
- Never create or distribute nonconsensual intimate imagery.
- Respect copyright in the target video, publicity rights in the likeness, privacy rights, and platform rules.
- Label materially altered or fictionalized media when viewers could reasonably mistake it for authentic footage.
- Keep records of permissions for client, advertising, or public-facing work.
- Do not treat an AI detector as proof that content is lawful or as a substitute for consent and disclosure.
For readers in the United States, the TAKE IT DOWN Act became Public Law 119-12 on May 19, 2025. It addresses the nonconsensual publication of intimate visual depictions, including computer-generated depictions in covered circumstances, and requires covered platforms to establish a notice-and-removal process. The Congressional Research Service states that the platform-process deadline was May 19, 2026. This law does not make every face swap illegal, and laws in other countries may differ; obtain qualified legal advice for a specific situation.
The FTC has separately identified AI-enabled impersonation as a growing fraud concern. A face swap that is presented as real, used to mislead people, or used to obtain money can create consequences beyond an ordinary copyright or editing dispute.
What not to assume about these tools
- Do not assume the most expensive tool is the most realistic. No independent comparative testing was supplied for this list.
- Do not treat vendor claims as benchmarks. Statements about natural expressions, lighting adaptation, difficult angles, processing speed, or accuracy are not independent test results.
- Do not assume a free tier permits commercial use. Magic Hour explicitly distinguishes free personal-use restrictions from paid commercial-use language.
- Do not assume local processing removes every risk. Installation packages, models, integrations, and network behavior still matter.
- Do not assume a deletion promise covers every copy. Original uploads, embeddings, generated media, logs, backups, and trained models may have different retention periods.
- Do not assume a feature’s availability is permanent. Limits, supported formats, pricing, models, and plan names can change.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best AI face-swap tool overall?
There is no universal winner. FaceFusion is the best fit for local control, Magic Hour and Vidnoz for quick browser use, DeepSwap for stated multi-face video support, HeyGen and AKOOL for business workflows, Reface for mobile entertainment, and Pixlr for still-image editing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Which AI face-swap tool processes files locally?
FaceFusion is the local-processing choice in this guide. Its official site describes running the platform on a user’s machine and the project publishes source code through GitHub. Local operation can reduce cloud uploads, but installation and the behavior of the complete software setup still need to be checked.
Can I use a free AI face swap for commercial work?
Not automatically. Magic Hour’s official page says its free video output has personal-use restrictions, while paid tiers include commercial-use language. For every other service, check the current plan terms, output license, watermark rules, and permissions for the people and media depicted.
Which tools support multiple faces?
DeepSwap’s official materials say up to six faces in one video. Magic Hour describes single- and multiple-face modes, and Pica AI says up to three faces can be swapped in one photo or video. Limits may depend on the current plan and can change.
How can I make an AI face swap look better?
Use a clear, high-resolution, front-facing source face; match the source and target lighting; avoid sunglasses and heavy occlusion; choose footage with moderate movement and visible faces; and inspect the entire output for flicker, boundary errors, and frame-to-frame inconsistencies.
Recommended Free Tools
Is it legal to swap someone else’s face?
A tool’s availability does not make a use legal. Obtain permission, respect copyright and publicity rights, avoid deceptive impersonation and nonconsensual intimate imagery, and disclose materially altered media when viewers could mistake it for real. The applicable rules depend on the country and use case.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Start with the workflow, not the marketing claim. Choose FaceFusion for local control; Magic Hour, Vidnoz, or DeepSwap for browser-based media work; HeyGen or AKOOL for business production; Reface for mobile entertainment; and Pixlr, Pica AI, GoEnhance, or Remaker for accessible image-led editing.
