Stremio is mainly the interface. The catalogs, metadata, subtitles, local-file support, and playable streams come from addons, so the right addon depends on what is missing from your setup.
This list covers ten useful options checked against Stremio’s official addon registry and the current community catalog on August 7, 2026. It includes stream, discovery, subtitle, YouTube, and local-media addons rather than treating every addon as a source of video.
Important: only access content you are legally entitled to watch. Community addons are not operated or supported by Stremio, and their availability can change.

On Windows, macOS, Linux, and Stremio Web, click the puzzle icon in the top-right corner. Search for an addon or choose one from the navigation on the left, then click Install. To remove it, return to the same screen and click Uninstall.

On Android, open the three-line menu in the top-left, choose Add-ons, and use the pickers at the top of the screen. The right-hand picker switches between Official and Community Add-ons.
Addon installations are associated with your Stremio account, but an addon that depends on a local service or device may not behave identically everywhere. In particular, local files available on one computer should not be assumed to appear on a television or another computer.

1. Torrentio
Best for: finding a wide range of torrent-based streams, with optional debrid integration.

Its configuration page is torrentio.strem.fun/configure. Depending on your setup, you can configure services such as Real-Debrid, Premiumize, AllDebrid, DebridLink, EasyDebrid, Offcloud, TorBox, and Put.io. The community catalog showed version v0.0.15 when checked.
Torrentio is not an official Stremio addon. Results can disappear when a provider has no matching release, Torrentio is temporarily unavailable, a debrid service rejects a request, or the title metadata does not match the release naming. Use it only for material you have the right to access.
2. AIOStreams
Best for: users who want one configurable addon instead of managing several separate result lists.

AIOStreams consolidates multiple Stremio addons and debrid services. Its configuration supports custom filtering, sorting, and result formatting, which can make a large number of results easier to use. It can also work with optional stream proxying through MediaFlow Proxy or StremThru.
The current public setup page is aiostreams.elfhosted.com/stremio/configure, and the community catalog showed version v2.32.1.
The trade-off is complexity. AIOStreams depends on the addons and services configured behind it, so one failed upstream provider may affect only part of the result list. Querying many providers can also make results slower than using a single-provider addon. It is a community addon, so Stremio’s support team does not operate or troubleshoot its backend.

3. Comet
Best for: another torrent/debrid search option when you want to compare results with other community addons.
Comet is listed in the community catalog under Torrents and provides torrent/debrid searching for Stremio. Its listed version was v2.0.0.
The catalog describes Comet with speed-focused promotional language. That should not be treated as an independent benchmark: actual response time depends on the addon backend, your network, the title, available releases, and any debrid service in use.
Comet is useful as a second source when another addon returns no result, but installing it cannot guarantee that every title will have a playable stream.
4. MediaFusion
Best for: a broad torrent and debrid addon that can complement another stream addon.

It is listed in the community catalog under Torrents, with version v6.1.3 shown at the time of checking.
Its results depend on matching torrent or debrid sources and on the addon’s current backend. If a title has no matching source, the service is unavailable, or an upstream request fails, Stremio may show no playable result. Since MediaFusion is a community addon, Stremio does not guarantee its uptime or functionality.
For a more reliable setup, compare the results from MediaFusion with another addon rather than assuming that one addon covers every movie and episode.
5. OpenSubtitles v3
Best for: adding subtitles to movies and series.
OpenSubtitles v3 is a subtitle-only addon. It does not provide movie catalogs or video streams. Its official manifest lists:

Install it if you see “No subtitles available” or need more subtitle-language options. A subtitle still may not appear when OpenSubtitles has no matching entry, or when the title identifier used by the stream does not match the available subtitle data.

Installing OpenSubtitles v3 does not solve a “No streams available” message because subtitles and video streams are separate addon functions.
6. OpenSubtitles
Best for: retaining the other official OpenSubtitles integration or testing an additional subtitle source.
Stremio’s official addon registry currently lists both OpenSubtitles v3 and the separately named OpenSubtitles. The older entry is listed as version 0.24.0, with ID org.stremio.opensubtitles, subtitle resources for series, movies, and other content, and the transport URL https://opensubtitles.strem.io/stremio/v1.
This distinction matters because claims that v3 has completely replaced every older OpenSubtitles entry are too broad. If one integration does not return subtitles for a particular title, the other may be worth testing. Neither addon supplies video streams.
7. WatchHub
Best for: checking which legitimate streaming service carries a movie or series.
WatchHub finds availability across services including Netflix, iTunes, Hulu, Amazon, HBO GO, and others, with support for many countries. Its official manifest lists version 1.15.0, supports movies and series, and provides a stream resource.
WatchHub does not have catalogs of its own: its manifest declares catalogs: []. It is a service-availability tool, not a replacement for a source-finding addon such as Torrentio or MediaFusion. In practice, it helps answer “where can I watch this legally?” rather than supplying an independent torrent catalog.
Country selection matters. A title available through a service in one country may not be available through the same service in another.
8. YouTube
Best for: browsing YouTube channels and videos without leaving Stremio.
The official YouTube addon adds channel catalogs and metadata. Its manifest lists version 1.30.7, ID com.linvo.stremiochannels, the yt_id: identifier prefix, and catalog and meta resources.

It supports a Top channel view with optional search, genre, and skip parameters, plus a Videos search that requires a search term. Genres include Gaming, Music, News & Politics, Sports, Cooking & Health, Film & Entertainment, Comedy, Automotive, and others.

The addon’s manifest describes ad-free channel viewing and upload notifications, but its verified resource types are channel catalogs and metadata. It should not be treated as a general movie-and-series stream provider.
9. Streaming Catalogs
Best for: discovering trending movies and series grouped by streaming service.
Streaming Catalogs provides configurable catalogs associated with services such as Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, and Apple TV+. You can choose which services appear, making it useful for browsing what is popular on the platforms you already subscribe to.
The community catalog showed version v1.1.1. It is a catalog and discovery addon, not a verified source of playable video streams. That distinction is important: a title can appear in the catalog while still producing “No streams available” unless a separate stream-providing addon is installed.
Use Streaming Catalogs alongside WatchHub when you want both discovery and availability information, rather than expecting it to play every item itself.
10. Local Files (without catalog support)
Best for: playing your own compatible media files through Stremio.
The official Local Files (without catalog support) addon finds playable local files with extensions and types including .torrent, .mp4, .mkv, and .avi. Its registry entry lists version 1.10.0, ID org.stremio.local, and support for movie, series, and other identifiers.
It does not provide a browseable catalog. The official manifest uses the local transport URL http://127.0.0.1:11470/local-addon/manifest.json and exposes metadata for local: and bt: identifiers, plus stream support for movie and series identifiers beginning with tt.

A file available on a desktop therefore should not be expected to appear automatically in Stremio running on a different television or phone.

Bonus: Public Domain Movies
The official registry also lists Public Domain Movies, which is worth considering if you want a legal source of older films. It provides both catalogs and streams for movies, supports search and pagination through a skip parameter, and describes a collection of more than 500 public-domain movies. The listed version is 1.0.0.
Unlike a catalog-only addon, this one declares both catalog and stream resources. It is marked official, although it is not marked protected in the registry.

What to do when an addon fails
- Identify the missing function. “No streams available” requires a stream addon; “No subtitles available” requires a subtitle addon. A catalog addon alone cannot fix either problem.
- Try another title. If only one movie or episode fails, the issue may be missing source data or a metadata mismatch rather than Stremio itself.
- Check whether the addon is official or community. Stremio controls neither the operation nor the uptime of community addons. Use that addon’s own developer or community channel for support.
- Review configuration. A disabled provider, invalid debrid credentials, country restriction, or overly strict filter can remove otherwise available results.
- Reinstall only after checking the above. On desktop and web, use the puzzle icon, select the addon, and click Uninstall, then install it again. On Android, use Menu → Add-ons.
Stremio itself is not automatically broken when a stream is missing. The official troubleshooting guidance recommends installing suitable addons and checking the addon-specific source or service.

What is the best Stremio addon for streams?
There is no universal winner. Torrentio, AIOStreams, Comet, and MediaFusion are community stream-focused options, but results depend on the title, backend availability, configuration, and any connected service. Use only sources you are legally entitled to access.
Are Stremio addons free?
Some addons are free, while others may connect to subscription or debrid services. Stremio does not provide or pay for those third-party services, and community-addon availability can change.
Why does Stremio show “No streams available”?
The installed addons may not provide streams for that title. Other causes include an unavailable addon backend, no matching release, rejected service credentials, filters, or a metadata mismatch. A catalog or subtitle addon alone will not supply video streams.
Do I need both OpenSubtitles and OpenSubtitles v3?
Not necessarily. They are separate official entries, and OpenSubtitles v3 is the newer named integration. However, the registry still lists both, so testing the other can help when one returns no matching subtitles.
Does WatchHub provide movies inside Stremio?
WatchHub identifies availability among services such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and others. It is not a general torrent catalog and should not be treated as an independent source of video streams.
Can I use Stremio addons on a smart TV?
Stremio supports addon management on supported clients, but local-file addons are device-dependent. A file or local service on a computer may not be visible to Stremio running on a separate TV.
The Bottom Line
For legal service discovery, install WatchHub; for YouTube channels, use YouTube; for your own media, use Local Files; and for subtitles, start with OpenSubtitles v3. Torrentio, AIOStreams, Comet, and MediaFusion are community stream options whose results and reliability depend on third-party infrastructure. Keep the distinction clear: catalogs help you find titles, subtitle addons provide subtitles, and only stream-capable addons can return playable video.
