Option 1: Delete Temporary Files with Disk Cleanup

  • Type Disk cleanup in the search box. Then, from the search result, click the Disk Clean-up app.

  • If you have more than one drive or partition on your PC, select the one you want to delete temporary files from.
  • Then, scroll down and check the Temporary files checkbox. You could also check any of the other checkboxes. When you finish, click OK. You will receive a delete confirmation pop-up window.

Option 2: Delete Temporary Files with CCleaner

Though Windows 10 Disk Clean-up tool can clean unwanted files on your computer, there is a 3rd part software that can do a better job – CCleaner. Using this tool from time to time will improve the speed of your PC considerably.

Step 1: Download and Install CCleaner

  • Open the folder you saved the installer and double-click the file.

  • If you receive a SmartScreen error, click Run. Then, on the User Account Control confirmation prompt, click Yes.
  • On the first screen of the installation wizard, click Install.
  • If the installation offers you the option to install the CCleaner Browser, on the bottom left of the installer, click Decline. Then, wait for CCleaner to install.
  • Finally, on the installation confirmation screen, uncheck View release notes checkbox and close the installer.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Files with CCleaner

After installing CCleaner, use the steps below to delete temporary files on your PC

  • Double-click the CCleaner shortcut on your desktop.
You may also open CCleaner by searching for it.
  • On the left pane of CCleaner, click Custom Clean.
  • When the Custom Clean tab opens, scroll down to the Systems category and confirm that the Temporary Files checkbox is checked (it is checked by default).
  • Finally, to delete temporary files on Windows 10 with CCleaner, on the bottom right, click Run Cleaner. You will receive a pop-up window asking you to confirm that you want to delete the selected files.
  • To proceed, click Continue. Then, wait for CCleaner to delete the files you have selected.
  • While CCleaner is running you may receive prompts to close certain applications on your PC. When you receive these prompts, to close the application, click Yes.
If you want to avoid receiving these prompts, close all applications and browsers on your PC before running CCleaner.
  • When CCleaner completes the cleaning, it will display a report of all the files deleted – this will include Temporary Files.
