There is no universal winner among Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure for generative AI. Choose the platform that best matches your existing data, identity, networking, operations, model, and compliance requirements. Google Cloud is usually the strongest fit for Gemini, BigQuery, Google data services, and TPU/GPU-backed machine-learning workflows. AWS is usually the strongest fit for organizations already standardized on AWS that want Amazon Bedrock’s multi-model application layer together with Amazon SageMaker’s governed training, deployment, data, and analytics lifecycle. Azure is usually the strongest fit when Microsoft identity, Azure data, private networking, processing-location controls, content filtering, and Microsoft Foundry governance are decisive.
Validate the exact model and version, serving region, quota, latency target, throughput, egress pattern, safety configuration, accelerator availability, and negotiated price before committing. Public catalog pages do not establish a universal cost or performance winner.
The short answer: pick the surrounding platform, not a logo
Generative-AI architecture is more than an inference endpoint. A production system also needs model evaluation, retrieval and search, data pipelines, identity, secrets, network isolation, observability, safety controls, deployment automation, quota management, and a way to train or fine-tune models when a hosted model is not enough. The cloud that already owns those adjacent systems often reduces delivery time and operational risk more than a small difference in token price.
Recommended Free Tools
- Choose Google Cloud when Gemini, BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, Vertex AI, Model Garden, and TPU/GPU machine-learning workflows are central to the design.
- Choose AWS when your estate is built around Amazon S3, Redshift, existing AWS identity and networking, and a need for Bedrock’s broad model and agent layer plus SageMaker’s end-to-end lifecycle tooling.
- Choose Azure when Microsoft Entra ID, Azure data services, private networking, regional or data-zone processing, content filtering, and Microsoft Foundry governance matter more than access to a particular infrastructure stack.
A multi-cloud design can be justified for regulatory separation, resilience, or access to a uniquely capable model, but it adds duplicated identity, evaluation, telemetry, prompt, quota, and cost-management work. Start with one primary operating model and introduce a second provider only for a documented requirement.

What is being compared
Google’s generative-AI platform is centered on the Gemini platform and Vertex AI capabilities, including Model Garden. AWS separates the managed application and model-access layer of Amazon Bedrock from the broader data, training, deployment, and analytics lifecycle in Amazon SageMaker. Azure presents Microsoft Foundry Models as a hub for discovering and deploying models; Azure OpenAI models are included among the Foundry Models sold by Azure.
These are not perfectly equivalent products. Bedrock, Foundry’s serverless API, and Gemini APIs can provide managed inference, while SageMaker, Vertex AI, and Azure managed compute address different portions of the training and deployment lifecycle. Compare the complete workflow you intend to run rather than treating one product name as a one-for-one substitute for another.

Where Google Cloud is strongest
Google Cloud is a natural fit when the application’s knowledge and analytics already live in BigQuery or Cloud Storage, or when teams are invested in Vertex AI workflows. Model Garden brings Gemini together with foundational, open-source, and fine-tunable models. Vertex AI also covers model hosting, prediction, training infrastructure, and machine-learning operations, with GPU and TPU choices for workloads that require dedicated acceleration.
Google describes Vertex AI as a platform to train predictive and generative models at scale, host trained models, and make predictions on new data. Its own comparison maps Vertex AI to Amazon SageMaker and Azure AI Platform, and maps Model Garden to AWS JumpStart with Bedrock and the Azure AI model catalog. Those mappings are useful orientation, but individual features and service limits still differ.
Data, speech, and multimodal workflows
BigQuery can remain the analytical system of record while retrieval, evaluation, and batch feature preparation are built around Vertex AI and other Google data services. This reduces data movement when prompts, documents, labels, and evaluation results already reside in Google Cloud. Confirm the exact vector-search, grounding, connector, and residency features for the region and SKU you plan to use.
Google’s current pricing catalog advertises Speech-to-Text support for 125 languages and Text-to-Speech with more than 220 voices in 40-plus languages. These are vendor-published product figures, not independent quality or latency benchmarks; test the languages, accents, streaming behavior, and voice licensing relevant to your application.
Infrastructure and lifecycle trade-offs
TPUs can be attractive for compatible training or inference pipelines, while GPUs, Deep Learning VM Images, and Deep Learning Containers provide more familiar tooling for many teams. Accelerator availability, queue time, topology, framework support, and regional quotas can outweigh theoretical price differences. If you need custom containers or unusual kernels, verify runtime support before selecting a TPU-first design.

Google Cloud pricing signals
Google’s current pricing catalog lists 300 dollars in free credits for new Google Cloud customers and says all customers can use more than 25 products for free within monthly limits. Those offers are account and product conditions, not a steady-state production price. Gemini usage, Vertex AI features, BigQuery processing, storage, network egress, and GPU or TPU time can all appear on the final bill.
AWS: when Bedrock and the AWS operating model are decisive
Bedrock’s application and model layer
AWS positions Amazon Bedrock as a platform for building generative-AI applications and agents at production scale. It provides access to hundreds of foundation models and tools for evaluating models against performance and cost needs. This breadth can simplify experiments that compare proprietary and open models behind a common API, while Bedrock features such as agents, knowledge integrations, guardrails, and model evaluation reduce the amount of platform code your team must maintain.
Bedrock is particularly compelling for an AWS-native organization: S3 remains the document store, IAM controls access, private networking can use established AWS patterns, and CloudWatch or existing logging pipelines can receive operational telemetry. Confirm the exact model versions, invocation modes, region support, and quota for every model in your shortlist; a model appearing in the catalog does not guarantee identical availability in every region.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Security, data use, and compliance boundaries
AWS states that Bedrock never stores or uses customer data to train models and describes encryption, identity policies, monitoring, logging, and compliance scope that includes ISO, SOC, CSA STAR Level 2, GDPR, FedRAMP High, and HIPAA eligibility. Eligibility is not the same as automatic compliance. You must verify the service configuration, model provider, region, logging choices, retention settings, and controls required by your regulator or contract.
SageMaker for governed lifecycle work
Amazon SageMaker is the broader environment for building, training, and deploying machine-learning and foundation models. AWS describes the next generation of SageMaker as a center for data, analytics, and AI, with governance, observability, data discovery, and lakehouse access across S3, Redshift, third-party, and federated sources. HyperPod, JumpStart, MLOps capabilities, and Unified Studio can support teams that need repeatable experimentation, fine-tuning, evaluation, and deployment rather than only an API call.
Use Bedrock when a managed model endpoint and application controls are sufficient. Add SageMaker when you need deeper control over data preparation, training jobs, model artifacts, deployment patterns, or cross-team governance. Running both is common, but budget for separate usage and infrastructure charges.
AWS performance and cost claims
AWS publishes claims that Bedrock distilled models can run up to 500 percent faster and up to 75 percent cheaper, and that Intelligent Prompt Routing can reduce costs by up to 30 percent. These are AWS claims for described features and conditions, not cross-cloud benchmarks. Reproduce the comparison with your prompts, context length, concurrency, quality threshold, retries, and regional prices before using such figures in a business case.
Azure: when Microsoft identity, geography, and safety controls lead
Microsoft Foundry Models and serverless deployment
Microsoft describes Microsoft Foundry Models as a hub for discovering and deploying a wide range of models for generative-AI applications. Its serverless API is the preferred deployment path for supported models and can expose Azure, partner, and community models through a common experience. Azure OpenAI models are part of the Foundry catalog, so teams can combine those models with other offerings without creating an entirely separate control plane.

Foundry supports regional processing, data-zone processing in the United States, European Union, or Asia-Pacific, and global processing, depending on the model and deployment. It also offers customizable content filtering, Microsoft Entra ID authentication, private networking, and provisioned throughput. Billing can be token based or tied to provisioned-throughput units. Availability and processing choices are model-specific, so check the deployment page rather than assuming every model supports every geography.
Managed compute preview
Foundry managed compute is a managed GPU platform for open-source, partner, industry, and custom models. Microsoft documents A100 80 GB, H100 80 GB, and MI300X 192 GB accelerator families, model-centric sizing, hourly accelerator billing, and automatic runtime patching. It is currently public preview, has no service-level agreement, and Microsoft does not recommend it for production workloads. Use it for evaluation or controlled experimentation only, or use a generally available Azure machine-learning service after separately validating its production guarantees.
Microsoft estate integration
Azure is often the least disruptive choice when users, applications, and data already rely on Entra ID, private endpoints, Azure networking, and Microsoft governance tooling. The benefit is operational consistency: the same identity lifecycle, network policy, and audit process can cover AI applications and conventional services. That advantage is weaker if your organization is primarily on AWS or Google Cloud and would need to duplicate those controls in Azure.
Model access and portability
Start model selection with quality and behavior requirements, then map the candidates to each cloud’s catalog. Proprietary models can differ in tool calling, structured output, multimodal support, context limits, fine-tuning, safety behavior, and version retirement policy. Open models provide more control over weights and runtime but shift responsibility for patching, scaling, guardrails, and evaluation to your team.
Questions to ask for every candidate
- Is the exact model version available in the required region and processing mode?
- What are the context window, maximum output, rate limits, batch options, and concurrency quotas?
- Can you fine-tune it, use retrieval grounding, call tools, and enforce structured output?
- How are deprecations announced, and can traffic be pinned while you validate a replacement?
- Which safety filters, data-retention settings, and audit events apply to that model?
- Can prompts and responses be moved to another provider without rewriting application logic?
Portability is not achieved by using a common SDK alone. Normalize prompts, tool schemas, token accounting, retries, safety decisions, and evaluation datasets in your own application layer. Keep provider-specific adapters at the boundary so a model change does not force a rewrite of retrieval and business logic.
Enterprise RAG and agent architecture
Retrieval-augmented generation
For RAG, compare the complete path from source documents to grounded answer: connectors, parsing, chunking, embedding model, vector or hybrid search, metadata filtering, authorization trimming, reranking, prompt assembly, generation, citations, and feedback capture. BigQuery and Cloud Storage favor Google-centric pipelines; S3, Redshift, and SageMaker data services favor AWS; Azure data services, Entra permissions, and private networking favor Azure. The best choice is the one that can enforce document-level permissions without copying sensitive data into an unmanaged side store.
Measure retrieval recall and answer faithfulness separately from model fluency. A cheaper model with poor retrieval can create more operational cost through escalations and human review. Record token counts for retrieved context because long prompts can dominate inference spend.

Agents and tool use
Agents add tool authorization, state management, retries, timeouts, approval steps, and auditability. Bedrock provides a managed application and agent layer; Vertex AI and Google services provide comparable building blocks around Gemini and model endpoints; Foundry combines model discovery with Microsoft identity, networking, and safety controls. Whichever platform you choose, keep high-impact actions behind explicit tools with least-privilege credentials and human approval for irreversible operations.

Deployment, latency, and performance controls
Serverless endpoints reduce infrastructure work but expose you to shared capacity, quota ceilings, and less predictable tail latency. Provisioned throughput or dedicated endpoints provide more predictable capacity at a commitment cost. Batch inference can lower unit cost when latency is unimportant. Self-managed or managed-compute deployments provide control over weights, runtime, and batching but require capacity planning, patching, autoscaling, and incident response.
Build a representative performance test
- Freeze the model version, region, safety settings, prompt template, retrieval corpus, and output-quality rubric.
- Replay production-shaped prompts across short, median, and maximum context lengths.
- Measure time to first token, total latency, tokens per second, error rate, throttling, and cost per successful answer at realistic concurrency.
- Test cold starts, autoscaling, retries, failover, and quota exhaustion rather than measuring only a warm single request.
- Compare quality at a fixed budget and compare cost at a fixed quality threshold.
- Repeat after changing region, provisioned capacity, model version, or prompt-caching settings.
Do not infer cross-cloud performance from accelerator names or vendor marketing percentages. A H100, TPU, or MI300X configuration can behave differently depending on model quantization, kernel, batch size, context length, network path, and software version.
Governance, privacy, and geography
Document where prompts, retrieved documents, logs, embeddings, backups, and support data are processed. Regional, data-zone, and global options can have different availability and pricing. A regional deployment may satisfy residency requirements but provide fewer models or lower quota; a global route may improve capacity while violating a contractual boundary.

Minimum control checklist
- Identity: workforce and workload authentication, role separation, short-lived credentials, and least privilege.
- Network: private endpoints where required, egress restrictions, DNS controls, and inspection of outbound tool calls.
- Data: encryption keys, retention, deletion, tenant isolation, redaction, and whether provider data is used for training.
- Safety: prompt and output filtering, jailbreak testing, sensitive-data detection, and documented override procedures.
- Operations: immutable audit logs, model and prompt versioning, incident alerts, and rollback paths.
- Compliance: verify the exact service, model provider, region, and configuration rather than relying on a cloud-wide certification.
Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure all offer governance features, but the control names and boundaries differ. Create a control matrix tied to your threat model and regulator, then verify each control in the selected SKU before production approval.
How to compare total cost
Public token prices are only one component. Build a monthly model that includes input and output tokens, cached context, embeddings, reranking, vector storage, data processing, orchestration, provisioned capacity, accelerator hours, logging, support, network egress, and committed-use discounts. Include failed requests, retries, safety rejections, and human-review traffic.
| Cost component | What to measure | Why it changes the result |
|---|---|---|
| Model inference | Input, output, cached, and batch tokens by model and region | Context-heavy RAG can spend more on input than output; model rates differ by version and location |
| Capacity | Provisioned-throughput units, endpoint hours, or GPU/TPU/accelerator hours | Reserved capacity can improve latency but charges continue when traffic is low |
| Data and retrieval | Warehouse scans, object storage, embeddings, vector index, reranking, and refresh jobs | Frequent indexing and large scans can exceed generation cost |
| Network | Inter-zone and internet egress, private connectivity, and cross-cloud transfer | Moving documents or responses between clouds can erase a token-price advantage |
| Operations | Logs, traces, evaluations, support, security tooling, and engineering time | Managed controls may cost more directly but reduce custom maintenance |
Run at least three scenarios: a low-volume pilot, expected production traffic, and a peak or outage scenario. Apply the same quality and latency requirements to every provider. Credits, free tiers, and negotiated enterprise discounts are temporary or account-specific unless your contract says otherwise.
A practical selection process
- Write the workload contract. Specify model capabilities, quality target, maximum latency, throughput, regions, retention, safety, and uptime requirements.
- Map the existing estate. Inventory data stores, identity, private networking, observability, CI/CD, and staff expertise. Mark systems that cannot be moved.
- Create a model shortlist. Include at least one proprietary and one open model where feasible, with exact versions and regions.
- Build one representative application. Use the same retrieval corpus, tool schemas, prompt templates, and evaluation set on each cloud.
- Run quality, safety, and load tests. Capture tail latency, throttling, refusal behavior, hallucination rate, retrieval recall, and cost per successful task.
- Review governance evidence. Confirm identity, network, retention, audit, content filtering, residency, and compliance boundaries with the service configuration you will deploy.
- Model three-year economics. Include egress, capacity commitments, support, engineering effort, migration risk, and a second-provider contingency if resilience requires it.
- Choose a migration and exit path. Version prompts and evaluations, export indexes and metadata, and keep provider-specific calls behind adapters.

Ignoring quotas until launch
A model can be cataloged yet unavailable at the required regional quota. Request increases early, test throttling behavior, and maintain a fallback model or queue for noninteractive work.
Treating preview services as production-ready
Azure Foundry managed compute is public preview, has no SLA, and is not recommended by Microsoft for production. Preview status, model retirement, and regional availability can change; gate such services behind an explicit risk decision.
Letting an agent hold broad credentials
Use narrowly scoped tools, per-action authorization, approval gates, idempotency keys, and complete audit trails. A model’s ability to call a tool is not a reason to grant it unrestricted access to the underlying system.
Duplicating sensitive data for convenience
Copying documents into a second cloud can create residency, retention, and deletion gaps. Prefer connectors or controlled replication with encryption, authorization metadata, and a documented deletion process.
Which platform fits common scenarios?
| Scenario | Likely starting point | Reason to validate another option |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini application with BigQuery analytics and Google-native data | Google Cloud and Vertex AI | Compare Bedrock or Foundry if a required model, region, or enterprise control is missing |
| AWS-native RAG and agent platform using S3 and existing IAM | AWS Bedrock with SageMaker where lifecycle control is needed | Evaluate Google or Azure if a specific model, residency option, or multimodal capability is decisive |
| Microsoft estate with Entra ID, private endpoints, and strict processing geography | Azure Foundry Models | Evaluate Google or AWS if the selected model or quota is unavailable in the required zone |
| Custom open model requiring managed GPU hosting | Compare Vertex AI, SageMaker, and Azure managed compute or Azure Machine Learning | Do not use Azure Foundry managed-compute preview for production without an approved risk exception |
| Highly variable experimentation across many models | Bedrock, Model Garden, or Foundry serverless according to the existing estate | Benchmark switching friction, evaluation tooling, and quota rather than catalog count alone |
What to verify immediately before procurement
- Exact model name, revision, context limit, tool and multimodal features, and retirement policy.
- Region or data-zone processing, cross-region behavior, and all supported deployment modes.
- On-demand, batch, provisioned, and accelerator pricing under your measured token mix.
- Quota-increase process, maximum concurrency, rate limits, and fallback options.
- Prompt, response, log, and support-data retention and training-use terms for the selected service.
- Private networking, encryption, key management, content filtering, and audit-log coverage.
- Service-level agreement, preview status, support tier, and incident-response commitments.
- Egress and cross-cloud transfer charges for documents, embeddings, logs, and generated output.
Re-check these items at contract signature and again before launch. Model catalogs, regions, quotas, prices, and preview status can change between architecture approval and deployment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is one of Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure always cheapest for LLM inference?
No. The result depends on the exact model and version, region, input/output token mix, context length, caching, quota, provisioned capacity, egress, commitments, and required quality and latency. Public pages do not establish a universal price winner.
Should an enterprise use Bedrock, Microsoft Foundry, or Vertex AI?
Use the service that aligns with your data, identity, networking, governance, and model requirements: Bedrock for an AWS-centered estate and broad managed model access, Foundry for Microsoft controls and processing-location choices, and Vertex AI for Gemini, BigQuery, and Google-native ML workflows. Validate the exact deployment rather than choosing by product name.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan I keep a second cloud as a fallback for an AI application?
Yes, but design for it deliberately. Keep prompts, tool schemas, evaluations, token accounting, and provider adapters under your control; test a second model for quality, safety, quota, latency, and cost before calling it a failover.
Is Azure Foundry managed compute suitable for production?
Microsoft documents it as public preview with no SLA and does not recommend it for production workloads. Use it for controlled evaluation or obtain an approved risk exception and a generally available alternative.
