9Proxy can be worth using when you need residential-looking connections and can match its billing model to your traffic pattern, but it is not an automatic recommendation. The IP-based plan gives you address credits that the documentation says do not expire while unused; the GB-based plan charges for traffic and supports dynamic or sticky rotation. That makes the first model more suitable for account-oriented or location-specific work and the second more suitable for rotating, higher-volume automation. Current prices, pool-size figures, performance claims, IP sourcing, consent, and abuse controls all need verification before you pay.

This review explains how each model works, what the published evidence does and does not prove, how to estimate fit, and which checks to complete at checkout. It does not treat vendor advertising as independent testing or make a universal legal judgment about proxy use.

What is 9Proxy?

9Proxy presents itself as a global residential proxy service. Its documentation describes two separate ways to obtain residential access: buying a fixed number of IP credits or buying a traffic allowance measured in gigabytes. Both models are accessed through the 9Proxy application and local port forwarding, and the service lists HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS5 support on its product page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The distinction matters more than the “residential” label. An IP-credit customer is mainly managing the number and lifetime of addresses activated. A GB customer is managing bytes, endpoint rotation, and session persistence. Choosing the wrong model can leave you paying for unused addresses, exhausting traffic faster than expected, or losing the session behavior your target requires.

Cybernews described 9Proxy in a review updated October 9, 2026, as a residential SOCKS5 network claiming more than 20 million IPs in over 90 countries. That is a reported company pool figure, not an independently verified inventory count; treat availability in a particular city, carrier, or ISP as something to confirm in the account interface rather than infer from the headline number. Should you pay by IP or by GB?

Choose IP-based billing when a small, known set of addresses must remain available for account or location work. Choose GB-based billing when your main variable is traffic and you need rotating or sticky endpoints at scale. The following table captures the documented differences.

Characteristic Residential Proxy by IPs Residential Proxy by GB
What you buy A fixed number of IP credits A traffic allowance measured in gigabytes
When usage is deducted An IP is deducted when it is forwarded to a local port Traffic is metered as data passes through the proxy
Address behavior An active residential address may last several hours to about 24 hours, depending on the IP Dynamic rotation or sticky sessions are available
Unused balance The documentation says unused IPs remain in the balance indefinitely Standard purchased GB is described as valid for at least 180 days; Enterprise is described as unlimited validity
Workload that generally fits Account-oriented, continuity-sensitive, or location-specific tasks that activate relatively few addresses Rotating automation, scraping-style workloads, or other high-volume traffic where bytes are the main cost driver
Connection workflow Use the 9Proxy app and forward the selected address to a local port Generate an endpoint, then select dynamic or sticky behavior and connect through the supported protocol

Read the current terms before purchase because validity, endpoint controls, and package definitions can change. The documentation for the two models is available at 9Proxy documentation.

How the IP-credit model works

In the IP model, you purchase a quantity of addresses rather than a traffic quota. The documentation says an IP is consumed when you forward it to a local port. An address that has not been forwarded remains in your balance indefinitely, while an active residential IP can remain usable for several hours and up to roughly a day, with the exact duration varying by address. This is not a promise that every session lasts 24 hours.

The model is useful when the scarce resource is a usable address, not bandwidth. For example, a workflow that logs into a small number of regional accounts each day may value predictable address allocation and persistent unused credits. It is less attractive when every task generates large downloads, media, or broad crawling, because the number of IPs you purchased does not tell you how many gigabytes the workload will consume.

Follow the vendor’s getting-started instructions for selecting an address and forwarding it locally; the guide is at Residential Proxy by IPs. Record when each address is activated so you can distinguish an expired active session from an unused credit that should still be in your balance.

How the GB model works

The GB model charges for traffic and lets you generate endpoints with either dynamic rotation or sticky behavior. Dynamic rotation is designed for tasks that benefit from changing addresses; sticky behavior is intended when several requests need to remain on one endpoint for a period. The documentation describes standard GB packages as having at least 180 days of validity and Enterprise packages as having unlimited validity, but you should confirm the exact term shown for your plan.

Traffic billing makes the model easier to scale when your process already measures bytes. It also makes accidental downloads, retries, images, and verbose API responses direct cost drivers. Set application-level limits and observe consumption before moving a high-volume job to production.

Is 9Proxy worth it for your workload?

There is no single yes-or-no answer. 9Proxy is most defensible when its session and billing mechanics solve a specific operational problem that cheaper datacenter proxies or a different residential service cannot.

It may fit account-oriented work

IP credits can make sense when you need a limited set of residential addresses for regional account access, quality checks, or location-sensitive verification. Because unused IP credits are documented as non-expiring, you can buy capacity ahead of an irregular schedule without losing the unactivated balance to a monthly deadline. The active address still has a variable lifetime, so do not design a process that assumes a particular IP will remain available indefinitely.

It may fit location-specific checks

When a task depends on how a site responds in a particular country, city, ISP, or network type, residential endpoints can provide a different view from a datacenter address. Confirm that the exact geography and targeting field you need is offered for the package you are considering. A claim of coverage across many countries does not guarantee inventory in every city or carrier at the moment you connect.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

GB billing may fit rotating automation

Traffic-based plans are usually easier to model for jobs that make many short requests, rotate addresses frequently, or run continuously. Dynamic endpoints can reduce the need to manually allocate an address for each task, while sticky endpoints can preserve continuity for a multi-request sequence. Your decision should be based on measured bytes per job and the amount of rotation required, not only on the advertised size of the pool.

When another option may be better

A datacenter proxy can be a better economic choice when the target does not require residential characteristics and your priority is predictable throughput. Geekflare’s September 15, 2026 review characterized 9Proxy as a lower-cost residential option and described Bright Data as having stronger enterprise infrastructure and Decodo as offering a larger claimed pool and scraping APIs. Those are the publication’s comparative judgments, not an independent benchmark of your workload. Geekflare review (updated September 15, 2026)

You may also prefer another provider if it publishes clearer IP-consent documentation, independent abuse audits, a detailed refund policy, or support commitments that your organization requires. The available 9Proxy materials do not settle those questions.

How much does 9Proxy cost in 2026?

Do not rely on a price copied from an old review. 9Proxy announced on May 18, 2026 that prices for IP-based and bundle packages would change at 00:00 UTC on June 1, 2026, while GB package prices would remain unchanged in that announcement. The company also said it had kept prices flat for more than 1,000 days; that is the vendor’s own historical statement, not an independently audited finding. 9Proxy pricing announcement, May 18, 2026

Package prices and promotions are dynamic. Check the official checkout immediately before publication or purchase at 9proxy.com, and note the currency, one-time versus recurring charge, included IPs or gigabytes, validity period, and any overage terms. The live page has displayed IP packages, but a displayed package is not evidence that the same offer will still be available later.

A practical cost calculation

  1. Write down the workload’s required countries, cities, ISP characteristics, protocol, and session length.
  2. For IP billing, estimate how many addresses must be active at the same time and how often new addresses will be activated. Divide the current package price by included IP credits, then account for credits that may sit unused.
  3. For GB billing, run a controlled sample and record request count, response size, retries, and media downloads. Multiply the observed bytes per job by the number of jobs, then compare the result with the package’s current GB allowance and validity window.
  4. Add operational costs that are easy to overlook: failed retries, browser assets, parallel workers, and traffic used by diagnostics.
  5. Recheck the checkout terms on the day you buy. The June 2026 announcement shows that package pricing can change on a dated schedule.

How do you set up a 9Proxy connection?

The documented workflow uses the 9Proxy app and local port forwarding. Exact screens can change, so use the labels shown in your current app version rather than relying on a screenshot from an older guide.

  1. Define the endpoint. Decide whether you need a fixed address credit or traffic billing, then specify the country, city, ISP, protocol, and session behavior your client supports.
  2. Create or sign in to your account. Confirm the package’s validity, balance rules, and refund terms before completing payment.
  3. Install and open the 9Proxy app. Use the vendor’s documentation for the current download and sign-in flow.
  4. Select the residential resource. In the IP model, choose an available address and prepare it for forwarding. In the GB model, generate an endpoint and choose dynamic or sticky rotation.
  5. Forward the connection to a local port. The app supplies the local-port workflow described in the documentation. Copy the host, port, username, and password values into the application that will make requests.
  6. Choose HTTP, HTTPS, or SOCKS5. Match the proxy protocol to the client. A protocol mismatch can look like an authentication or timeout failure.
  7. Run a small verification job. Check the observed country and IP, confirm that the session mode behaves as expected, and measure response time and error rate before launching parallel workers.
  8. Monitor balance and session age. Track IP-credit deductions or GB consumption, record when an address was activated, and set alerts for unexpected traffic growth.

What protocols and targeting details should you verify?

9Proxy advertises HTTP/S and SOCKS5 compatibility. “Supported” does not mean every application handles each protocol identically, so test the exact client, authentication method, DNS behavior, and TLS path used in production.

  • Geography: Verify country and, when essential, city-level availability at the moment of use.
  • Network attributes: Confirm whether the required ISP or carrier targeting exists for your package; do not infer it from the total pool claim.
  • Session control: Decide whether a changing address or a sticky endpoint is acceptable for each task.
  • Concurrency: Check how many simultaneous connections your plan and software can sustain without exhausting credits or generating avoidable retries.
  • Authentication: Test the supplied credentials in a non-production client before distributing them to workers.

How good is 9Proxy’s performance?

The official product page has displayed an average success rate of 99.5% and an average response time of 0.6 seconds. Those figures are vendor-reported advertising claims, not independent measurements, and they do not specify target sites, geography, concurrency, test duration, or error definition. 9Proxy official site

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Performance for your job can vary with the destination, protocol, distance, time of day, endpoint availability, and the amount of parallel traffic. Establish your own acceptance thresholds: for example, a maximum timeout rate, a minimum successful-request percentage, and a response-time percentile over a representative sample. Keep the sample small enough to avoid wasting a full package while still including the locations and request types you actually need.

Can you trust 9Proxy’s residential IP sourcing?

The sources available for this review do not establish where the residential IPs come from, how residents consent to traffic, or whether an independent organization has audited abuse-prevention controls. A large claimed pool and a residential classification are not proof of ethical sourcing, regulatory compliance, or safe use.

Ask the vendor for a written explanation of IP acquisition and consent, the channels used to handle abuse complaints, suspension and investigation procedures, data-retention practices, and any independent audit reports. Save the answers with your procurement record. If the service cannot provide evidence that your organization requires, treat that uncertainty as a purchasing risk rather than assuming the most favorable interpretation.

Decision axis Questions to answer Why it changes the choice
Billing fit Will the workload consume addresses or bytes faster? IP credits and GB allowances behave differently when usage is uneven or seasonal.
Session behavior Does each sequence need a stable address, or should the address rotate? Natural IP lifetimes and selectable sticky or dynamic sessions support different application designs.
Targeting Are the required country, city, ISP, and protocol actually available? A broad network claim cannot guarantee a specific endpoint at the moment of connection.
Budget and expiry What happens to unused capacity, and when does it expire? Non-expiring IP credits and time-limited GB balances create different waste risks.
Trust and support Can the provider document consent, abuse controls, refunds, and support response? These are operational and reputational safeguards, and the available 9Proxy sources leave them unresolved.
Evidence quality Which numbers are independently measured and which are marketing claims? It prevents a claimed success rate, response time, or pool size from becoming an unsupported service-level expectation.

What can go wrong, and how do you troubleshoot it?

The connection fails immediately

Confirm that the local port is running, the host and port were copied exactly, and the client is using the protocol selected in the app. Re-enter credentials without adding spaces, then test one request with a simple command-line or lightweight client before involving a browser or a worker pool.

The address changes sooner than expected

An IP-model address has a variable lifetime of several hours up to about a day, so an early change can be normal for that model. If continuity is essential, test a sticky GB endpoint or redesign the workflow so it can re-authenticate when the address changes.

IP credits appear to be missing

Check whether the address was forwarded to a local port; that action is what the documentation says deducts an IP. Distinguish an activated address that has aged out from an unactivated credit, which the documentation says remains in the balance. Keep screenshots or account logs and contact support if the balance does not reconcile.

GB usage rises unexpectedly

Inspect response bodies, automatic image or script downloads, retries, redirects, and parallel workers. Run the same task with payload logging enabled, cap concurrency, and add byte-based alerts before restoring the full workload.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Requests succeed but the location is wrong

Verify the observed exit IP with an independent lookup, then check the selected country, city, and ISP fields. A country-level result does not prove city- or carrier-level accuracy, and endpoint inventory can change between sessions.

What is the final assessment?

9Proxy is a conditional fit rather than a universal “best” residential network. Its clearest practical advantage is the choice between non-expiring unused IP credits and traffic-priced endpoints with dynamic or sticky rotation. That flexibility can serve small, location-sensitive account workflows or larger rotating automation, provided the package matches actual consumption.

Buy only after checking the live price, validity language, endpoint targeting, protocol behavior, refund terms, and written answers about IP sourcing and abuse controls. Treat the advertised 99.5% success rate, 0.6-second response time, and 20M-plus pool as claims that require workload-specific validation, not guarantees. If your organization needs independently audited consent or enterprise-grade support commitments, the unresolved evidence may be enough reason to choose a provider with stronger documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can unused 9Proxy IP credits be refunded or transferred to another account?

The cited documentation explains how credits are activated and how long unused credits remain available, but it does not establish a refund or transfer policy. Ask support for those terms in writing before buying a large balance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does a 20M-plus IP pool guarantee an address in my city or ISP?

No. The figure is a reported pool claim, not a promise of live inventory in every city, carrier, or ISP. Confirm the exact targeting options in the account interface and test an endpoint from the location you need.

Are 9Proxy residential proxies legal to use?

Legality depends on your activity, destination, contracts, and jurisdiction. The available service materials do not provide a universal legal determination, so obtain advice appropriate to your use case and follow target-site rules.

What should an enterprise buyer request about residential IP consent?

Request a written description of acquisition and consent, abuse-report handling, suspension procedures, data retention, and any independent audit or certification. Keep the response with your vendor-risk records and make approval conditional on your organization’s standards.

How can I test performance without spending a full package?

Use a small representative sample covering the intended geography, protocol, session mode, and request types. Measure success rate, timeout rate, and response-time percentiles while recording traffic consumed, then compare the results with your acceptance thresholds.
