Install an extension only when you need a specialized export, editor, or screen-recording workflow.
Use Edge’s built-in Screenshot first
Microsoft Edge can capture a complete webpage, including content below the fold, without manually scrolling. It can also capture a selected rectangle and lets you annotate with pen or touch. Moving material such as videos, GIFs, and carousels remains active while the capture is made.
Full-page capture
- Open the page in Microsoft Edge and wait for the important content to load.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open the page’s right-click menu and choose Screenshot, or open Edge Settings and locate the Screenshot command.
- Choose Capture full page. Edge creates one image covering the complete webpage, not just the visible viewport.
- Use the pen or touch markup tools if needed. Select Copy to put the result on the clipboard, or Save to write an image file.
Capture part of a page
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S and select Capture area.
- Drag around the article, chart, dialog, or other region you want.
- Annotate, copy, or save the selected image.
Edge’s labels and availability can vary by device type, market, and browser version. If the shortcut does nothing, update Edge, check the keyboard focus, and use the right-click or Settings route instead.
When an Edge extension is worth installing
An extension adds value when the native tool does not match your output or workflow. Compare tools by capture scope, editing, export, special-page handling, and the permissions you are willing to grant.

Choose GoFullPage for document-style output
GoFullPage is a practical choice when the deliverable must be an image or PDF, when drag-and-drop output is useful, or when you want its premium crop and annotation editor. Check the result on very long pages because the listing says oversized captures can be divided into separate images.
Choose Scrnli when recording is part of the job
Scrnli is aimed at a mixed workflow: capture a whole page, a selected region, or the visible screen, annotate it, and record the screen when a still image is insufficient. Review the extension’s current permissions and privacy policy before installing.
Treat older listings cautiously
Screenshot in Page offers format and quality settings, but its marketplace entry is dated. A listing date is not proof that a current Edge release supports every function, so test it on a non-sensitive page before adopting it.
How to capture difficult pages reliably
Lazy-loaded images and infinite feeds
Scroll through the page once before capturing so images and cards have a chance to load. A native or extension full-page capture may not include content that a site only creates after interaction. For an infinite feed, capture a bounded section or use the site’s own export rather than assuming “full page” has a natural endpoint.

Nested scroll areas
A page can contain a scrollable table, chat panel, or map inside the main document. Full-page tools usually follow the document’s scroll height, not every nested container. Capture the inner panel separately with Capture area, or scroll that panel into view and capture it as its own image.
Sticky headers, animations, and carousels
Sticky navigation may appear repeatedly in a long image. Pause animations where the site permits it, and capture moving regions separately if a specific frame matters. Edge keeps moving content active, so a video or carousel can show a different frame than the one you saw initially.
Very large pages
Long pages consume memory and can produce a huge file. Prefer several logical captures, reduce the browser zoom only when readability remains acceptable, or use an extension that explicitly handles PDF output. GoFullPage notes that very large pages may be split into separate images.
Privacy and permission checks
A screenshot extension can request access to page contents, which may include account data, internal dashboards, or text in forms. Install from the official Edge Add-ons site, inspect the permissions, and avoid capturing passwords, payment details, health records, or confidential customer information.
- Use Edge’s native Screenshot for one-off sensitive captures whenever it meets the requirement.
- For an extension, disable access on sites where the browser offers that control.
- Check the extension publisher, update date, privacy statement, and destination of exported files.
- Store captures in an encrypted location and remove temporary downloads.
- Remember that a screenshot is a copy of the information visible at capture time; redact it before sharing.
Compatible Chrome Web Store extensions can also be used in Edge, but compatibility and permissions still need to be checked in Edge’s own extension management screen.

Quality, speed, and file-format decisions
PNG, JPEG, or PDF
PNG preserves crisp text and interface lines and is normally the safest choice for documentation. JPEG creates smaller files for photographic pages but can soften text. PDF is convenient for review and printing, yet page breaks, selectable text, and links depend on how the extension builds the document.
Visible screen versus full document
Use a visible-screen capture for a bug report that must show the browser context. Use full-page capture for a design review, audit trail, or article archive. Use area capture when unrelated navigation or personal data must not be included.
Repeatable captures
Keep the same viewport size, zoom, signed-in state, and page scroll position when comparing versions. Record the URL and capture date with the file. Disable translation or reader modes unless they are intentionally part of the comparison.
Troubleshooting Edge screenshot problems
The shortcut is not recognized
Click the page first, try the right-click Screenshot command, and confirm that another application is not intercepting Ctrl+Shift+S. An organization’s policy or an older Edge build can also hide a feature; update Edge or ask the administrator.

The full-page image stops early
Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through lazy sections, close obstructing dialogs, and retry. If the site uses an inner scroll container, capture that container separately. Extensions may also stop at a technical height limit; divide the page into sections.
Blank areas or missing images appear
Check whether the images require scrolling, consent, login, or a blocked third-party request. Reload without an ad blocker for a controlled test, accept the site’s consent prompt, and capture only after images are visible. Do not weaken security controls on a sensitive account just to obtain a screenshot.
PDF pages break badly
Try a shorter capture, landscape orientation where supported, or a print-friendly version of the site. If the extension offers page-size or margin controls, adjust them before exporting rather than scaling a giant image afterward.
An extension conflicts with the page
Open Edge’s extensions management page, disable other capture, privacy, or script-modifying extensions temporarily, and test in an InPrivate window if the extension permits it. Re-enable extensions one at a time to identify the conflict.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Edge capture a webpage as a PDF without an extension?
Edge’s native Screenshot saves or copies an image. For a PDF, use the browser’s print dialog or an extension such as GoFullPage that explicitly offers PDF export.
Will a full-page capture include content behind a login?
Only if the capture runs in the same authenticated browser session and the page allows that content to load. Never share a capture containing account or customer data without redaction.
Why does a screenshot look different each time?
Responsive breakpoints, rotating carousels, ads, animations, lazy loading, and changing login or consent state can all alter the rendered page. Keep viewport, zoom, session, and timing consistent.
Can an Edge extension capture an entire inner table or chat panel?
Usually not as part of the document’s automatic full-page height. Scroll the inner panel and use an area capture, or use a tool that specifically supports selecting an element by CSS selector.
