Use Playwright’s non-persistent browser.newContext() to create a fresh, incognito-like session, open Google Search, and save the page with page.screenshot(). Set the viewport before navigating if the rendered layout matters, then close the context when you are done. This isolates the browser session; it does not guarantee anonymity or identical search results between captures.
Capture a Google SERP in a fresh Playwright context
Playwright’s official BrowserContext example describes a new context as an “incognito browser context.” A non-persistent context is separate from other browser contexts and does not write browsing data to disk. The basic sequence is context, page, navigation, screenshot, and cleanup.

})();Save this as a JavaScript file in a project where Playwright is installed, then run it with Node.js. The screenshot is written to google-serp.png in the current working directory. Playwright infers the image type from the file extension.
Why use a new context for incognito-like capture?
A fresh call to browser.newContext() avoids reusing an existing page’s cookies and session state. It is the right choice when you want an isolated capture rather than one made from a persistent user-data profile. Close the context after capture to dispose of that session.

Session isolation is not anonymity. It does not establish that Google cannot infer anything about a request, remove all sources of location or personalization, or make results neutral and repeatable. Google’s interface and search results change over time and with context; do not treat a screenshot as a universal or fixed SERP.
Choose and record the capture settings
Viewport and screenshot scope
The example sets a 1365-by-900 viewport when creating the context, before navigation. Viewport size affects responsive layout, so use the same dimensions for captures you intend to compare. The default page.screenshot() captures the visible viewport. To capture the full page instead, use await page.screenshot({ path: 'google-serp.png', fullPage: true });.

Browser engine and repeatability
Playwright supports Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit. Use Chromium for a simple single-engine workflow; if cross-browser differences are part of the test, run the same capture in each engine and record which one produced each image. For meaningful comparisons, also note the query, capture time, viewport, and any locale or region settings you explicitly configure. These records help explain differences; they do not make Google’s results identical across users or dates.
Use screenshot styling cautiously
Playwright’s screenshot API offers options such as styling page elements, which can help with controlled test captures. For a screenshot presented as Google Search, do not use CSS or scripts to change the interface, autocomplete terms, or search results.

Google Search screenshots and publication
Google’s Brand Resource Center says Search should be shown in positive or neutral ways and in realistic ways, functioning as it actually looks. Its guidance says not to alter the interface or manufacture, remove, or alter autocomplete terms or search results. Google and the Google logo are trademarks of Google LLC.
Google says permission is not required for Search or results screenshots in print for educational or instructional purposes, such as textbooks, journals, magazines, how-to books, and other informative material. That statement is not a blanket license for websites, advertising, or every other use. Content from third parties that appears in a screenshot may require permission from its owner; Google says Search use in advertisements requires its approval. Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The image has the wrong dimensions or layout: Set
viewportinbrowser.newContext()before creating and navigating the page. Confirm whether you need the visible viewport or a full-page image. - The script exits before saving: Await
page.goto()andpage.screenshot(), and keep the browser open until the screenshot call completes. Thefinallyblock ensures cleanup after success or failure. - Results differ from another capture: Compare the query, time, viewport, engine, and explicitly configured locale or region. A fresh context isolates session state, but it does not guarantee the same SERP across runs.
- The screenshot includes unexpected page elements: Search pages are dynamic. Avoid changing the displayed results to make images match; record the capture context and time instead.
