To keep game audio in a YouTube rerun, first identify what YouTube flagged and where, then address the specific audio at issue. Check the game publisher’s current streaming policy and the soundtrack’s permissions. If only licensed music is the problem, disable or remove that music while preserving effects and dialogue when the game allows it. If you have permission to use the track, ask the rights owner to add your channel to YouTube’s Content ID allowlist. A prior successful stream or an old VOD does not guarantee that a fresh rerun will avoid a match.
First identify what was muted or flagged
“Muted game audio” can describe different problems: a Content ID claim on an archived stream, a live-stream interruption, a restriction, or an audio-capture or routing fault. YouTube’s guidance establishes that live streams are scanned for third-party content and that claims on archived live streams may be made after the stream ends; it does not establish that every quiet or missing game track is caused by copyright matching. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance says to check YouTube Studio for a strike if a stream stops.
- Open YouTube Studio and inspect the notice for the stream or saved VOD. Note whether it identifies a Content ID claim, a restriction, a strike, or a live interruption.
- Write down the affected timestamps and the matched material named in the notice. A timestamp-specific match points to a different fix than game audio that is absent throughout the recording.
- Listen to the saved VOD around those timestamps. Determine whether only music is missing, or whether effects, dialogue, and other game sounds are missing too.
Do not change your entire audio mix until you know which of these problems you are addressing.
Check the game’s rules and audio controls
Game publishers can set conditions for gameplay recordings, and a game’s own policy can take priority over a publisher’s general guidance. Check the official policy for the exact title and look in its settings for streamer mode, licensed-music controls, or other guidance on recording and streaming its audio.

For example, SEGA’s guidelines apply to individual users using its products legitimately and say third-party elements such as music may require separate permission. They also call for gameplay videos to include new elements such as commentary or narration. SEGA directs users to check product-specific policies, which may take priority over its general guidelines. The guidelines page was last updated March 12, 2026; its support page says it was updated March 19, 2026. These are SEGA-specific terms, not a rule for every game.
If the game offers a setting to disable licensed music while keeping dialogue and sound effects, try that before muting all game audio. Confirm what reaches the recording in a private or unlisted workflow where appropriate. The exact steps for external audio routing vary by game, operating system, and streaming software; there is no universal setting established for every setup.

If the music is not cleared for your use
Remove or mute the uncleared music before making another recording or rerun, while retaining other game sound if the title and your setup allow it. A publisher-specific example is Pokémon’s guidance: it says saved Play! Pokémon broadcast VODs must have copyrighted music removed or muted to prevent issues. That instruction covers the specified broadcasts, not every Pokémon gameplay stream or every game. The same guidance says some Pokémon Presents material may be flagged or muted in saved VODs; it was last updated January 31, 2024.
If you have a license for the matched track
Check that the permission covers the particular track, platform, territory, and use you intend, including a saved recording or rerun if relevant. YouTube says a licensed track can still match during a live stream; ask the rights owner to add your channel to YouTube’s Content ID allowlist. Without that allowlisting, a stream may still be interrupted even if you have a license. YouTube explains the live-stream scanning and allowlist issue here.

Check the VOD after the stream—and treat a rerun as a new transmission
YouTube distinguishes live scanning from claims on archived live streams. Its help page states: “Content ID claims are only made after you complete your live streams, if you decide to archive the video.” Review the saved video in Studio after the stream ends and check any new notice and timestamps before deciding the issue is resolved.

A rerun sends recorded material in a fresh transmission. YouTube’s guidance says live streams are scanned and that licensed third-party content may interrupt a stream when the channel is not allowlisted. It separately describes claims on archived live streams after the stream ends. The guidance does not specify whether a particular rerun file is scanned differently from a first broadcast. Therefore, a previous successful stream, an old recording, or an earlier VOD status does not establish that a new rerun is cleared.

- The VOD is muted only at certain timestamps: Compare those points with the Studio notice and matched material. If it is music, check the track’s permissions and the game’s music controls rather than muting all gameplay audio automatically.
- The live stream stopped: Check Studio for a strike or other notice, identify the matched material, and address it before restarting. YouTube warns that continuing to show matched third-party material after a warning can interrupt or terminate a live stream.
- The track is licensed, but YouTube still flags it: Ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel in Content ID, then confirm the license covers the use you are making.
- All game sound is missing, with no relevant copyright notice: Check whether the recording captured the game-audio source and whether the game’s audio settings or your routing changed. A copyright notice is not the only possible explanation for missing sound.
- You muted the soundtrack but effects or dialogue disappeared too: Restore the broader mix and look for a title-specific music control. External routing may work, but its steps depend on your setup.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube rerun of a recording you have the rights to use, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist looping from the cloud after you add your YouTube stream key. Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the file as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price, with no re-encode or quality tiers; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera, and it does not clear music rights or prevent a copyright match. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
