These are continuity options, not guarantees: a wider service outage can affect multiple tools, and an account restriction needs to be handled through YouTube’s stated review or appeal process. Keeping a channel active with scheduled videos is also different from continuing an actual live broadcast.
First, identify what “live” means for your channel
If you mean keeping videos or posts publishing on schedule, advance scheduling and a prepared backup operator can help. If you mean continuing an actual live broadcast, you need access to live-stream controls and must distinguish a tool outage from a restriction on your account. Do not use another channel to get around an active live-streaming restriction.
YouTube’s official help guidance reviewed on October 4, 2026 describes the procedures below. Feature access and interface details can vary by account, role, device, and region; check your own account and the current help pages before relying on a particular fallback.
Set up a backup operator before you lose access
In YouTube Studio, go to Settings → Permissions and invite a trusted person. Channel permissions let multiple people manage channel data, tools, and features without sharing the owner’s Google Account login. If your channel is attached to a Brand Account, YouTube says it must first migrate to channel permissions. Invitations expire after 30 days, so the invited person should accept in time.

Choose the narrowest role that covers the backup task. Tell the delegate in advance what they may do and how to contact you before taking consequential actions.

This is a selective summary of YouTube’s role guidance. Some actions may not be available to every delegate. Delegated access does not cover YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, or YouTube APIs; verify that the person’s role and the surface they can access support the exact task. Try another supported YouTube surface for routine publishing
YouTube documents mobile uploads through the YouTube app, and its scheduling guidance includes the YouTube app as an option. If Studio on a computer is inaccessible, try the relevant task in the YouTube app—but only if the app and your account are functioning. An alternate app is not a guarantee against a broader YouTube outage.
The Studio mobile app also has task-specific limitations. For example, creators cannot self-certify video ratings there. Check the task’s available controls rather than assuming that every Studio feature exists in the YouTube app or Studio app. YouTube’s upload help and scheduling guidance describe supported workflows.

Schedule content when you can plan ahead
Scheduling makes publication less dependent on you or a backup operator being at a computer or phone at the intended time. Before leaving a video queued, verify its publication date, time zone, visibility, and audience settings. Scheduled videos remain private until their scheduled publication.
A Community Guidelines strike penalty can prevent a scheduled video from going public. In that case, YouTube says the video remains private until the penalty period ends, and you must reschedule it. Scheduling is useful for routine timing, but it does not override an account penalty. Review YouTube’s scheduling guidance and its strike guidance.

Use a Community post to update viewers
If a planned video is delayed, a scheduled Community post can communicate the change separately from the video itself. YouTube Help documents choosing a date, time, and time zone for a scheduled post. This option depends on the channel having access to the Posts feature and the publishing surface being available; it is not a substitute for a video upload or live broadcast. In the YouTube Studio mobile app, the Account status page reports potential policy, copyright, monetization, account-safety, and access-to-features issues. Review any alert and follow the action or appeal instructions shown there. An account alert points to an account-specific issue; the available official guidance does not provide one diagnostic that identifies every service incident.

If a feature is restricted, use YouTube’s stated review or appeal path rather than treating the problem as a tool outage. YouTube explains Account status and channel restrictions here.
Do not bypass an active live-stream restriction
YouTube prohibits a creator whose live-streaming access is restricted from live streaming on another channel while the restriction remains active. YouTube treats doing so as circumvention under its Terms of Service and says it may lead to account termination. A second channel is therefore not a workaround, even if your usual channel’s live controls are unavailable. Restrictions may relate to policy or copyright enforcement, age and audience conditions, or other eligibility limits. Follow the notice and the review or appeal instructions attached to your account. Quick troubleshooting
- You cannot open Studio on a computer: Try the YouTube app for a supported upload or scheduling task, or ask a previously authorized Manager or Editor to handle it. If several surfaces fail, do not assume the app will bypass a broader outage.
- Your backup operator cannot act: Confirm the invitation was accepted before it expired, the channel is using channel permissions, and the role permits the intended action. Editors cannot manage permissions or reset stream keys.
- A scheduled video did not publish: Check its visibility and schedule settings, then look for a Community Guidelines strike penalty. A video held private by a penalty may need to be rescheduled after the penalty ends.
- Live controls are unavailable: Check Account status and any restriction notice. If live-streaming access is restricted, do not switch channels; follow YouTube’s review or appeal process.
- You need to tell viewers a video is delayed: If Posts is available and the publishing surface works, schedule a Community post with the correct time zone.
