1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChrome on a Mac can capture an entire webpage without an extension. Open the page, press Command-Option-I to open DevTools, press Command-Shift-P to open the DevTools command menu, search for screenshot, and choose Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome downloads an image containing the page content below the visible viewport.
Capture an entire webpage in Chrome on Mac
Use this built-in DevTools workflow for a one-off full-page image:
- Open the page. Start Google Chrome on macOS and navigate to the webpage you want to save. Let the page load before capturing it.
- Open DevTools. Press Command-Option-I. Alternatively, right-click the page and select Inspect.
- Open the command menu. With DevTools focused, press Command-Shift-P.
- Find the capture command. Type screenshot. If several results appear, search for full size screenshot.
- Capture the page. Select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome renders the page beyond the current viewport and downloads the resulting image using its normal download behavior.
The downloaded file is a single image rather than a series of viewport-sized pictures. Its height depends on the rendered page, so a long article or dashboard can create a very tall file.
Why this is different from a normal Mac screenshot
macOS screen-capture shortcuts record pixels currently visible on your display. They do not automatically scroll through a webpage. Chrome’s Capture a full size screenshot command captures the whole rendered document, including material below the fold that is not visible in the viewport.

That distinction matters for documentation, design review, archiving, bug reports and sharing a complete page. A normal screen grab is appropriate when you need to show one visible state; the DevTools command is appropriate when you need the page from top to bottom as one image.
Before you capture: make the page stable
Full-page capture records the page as Chrome has rendered it at that moment. Spend a few seconds checking the state you actually want preserved.
- Wait for images, embedded sections and other lazy-loaded content to finish loading.
- Scroll through the page once if important sections load only after entering the viewport.
- Dismiss sign-in prompts, cookie notices or other overlays that obscure the content you need.
- Keep the intended browser window and zoom level. The screenshot reflects the page’s rendered layout, not a printed document layout.
- For pages that update continuously, pause the activity where possible so sections do not change while Chrome renders the capture.
Dynamic pages can change while they render. If the first image is missing content, wait, reload if necessary, and run the command again.
Troubleshooting Chrome’s full-size command
The command menu does not open
Command-Shift-P works when DevTools has focus. Click inside the DevTools panel and press the shortcut again. If the shortcut still does nothing, open DevTools with Command-Option-I (or Inspect) and use the command menu from there.

“Capture a full size screenshot” is hard to find
Type screenshot in the command menu. When multiple capture choices are listed, refine the search to full size screenshot. Use the exact command wording; a regular viewport screenshot is not the same operation.
The image stops before the bottom
The page may not have finished rendering or may load sections as you scroll. Wait for lazy-loaded images and embedded components, scroll through the document once, and capture again. A page that changes its structure while loading can also produce an incomplete result.
Images or embeds are blank
Check whether those resources are still loading, blocked, or dependent on an interaction. Wait until the visible page is complete, then retry. Some embedded content may not be available to Chrome’s renderer at capture time.
The result is extremely tall or difficult to use
A full-page screenshot is an image, so a very long page becomes a tall image that can be awkward to print, annotate or send. If your goal is a document-oriented deliverable, use Chrome’s print-to-PDF workflow instead. PDF output is a document, not a screenshot, and it may paginate or reflow the content differently.

The shortcut behaves differently after a Chrome update
Chrome’s labels and shortcut behavior can change between releases. Open DevTools from Chrome’s menus, focus the panel, and use the command palette directly. Search for the current full-size screenshot command rather than relying only on a remembered keystroke.
Built-in capture versus a full-page extension
Chrome’s built-in command requires no installation and is usually the simplest choice for an occasional capture. A dedicated extension can be more convenient when you capture long pages repeatedly or need additional export, editing or annotation controls.
GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture is one optional Chrome Web Store extension for that use case. Its listing describes continuing fixes and improvements through September 2026, including scrollbar handling, capture behavior, dialogs and export features. Treat an extension as a convenience layer, not a requirement: start with DevTools for a one-off image, and check that any extension you install is maintained for your Chrome version.
| Consideration | Chrome DevTools command | Full-page extension |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | None; included with Chrome | Requires installing and granting the extension its requested permissions |
| Best use | Occasional, direct captures | Repeated captures and additional workflow controls |
| Editing and annotation | Not provided by the capture command | Depends on the extension and its export tools |
| Export | Image download | Varies by extension |
| Dynamic or very long pages | Wait for rendering and lazy content; very long output can be unwieldy | Behavior depends on the extension’s current implementation |
| Privacy | Page is handled by Chrome locally | Review permissions and the extension’s data practices before use |
Quality, layout and privacy considerations
Rendered page versus printed page
The command captures the browser-rendered layout, including the page’s styling and content outside the viewport. It is not a print preview. If you need page numbers, margins or a document that can be searched as text, print to PDF instead.

Responsive layouts
The screenshot uses the current browser viewport and device scale. Resize the Chrome window or adjust responsive emulation in DevTools before capturing if you need to document a particular layout. Re-capture after changing the viewport; the same URL can produce a different image at another width.
Personal and confidential information
Anything rendered in the page can appear in the image, including account names, order details, tokens shown in a dashboard or private messages. Inspect the page before sharing the downloaded file. Crop or redact sensitive areas with an image editor when appropriate.

For automated jobs, server-side capture avoids opening Chrome and repeating the DevTools steps. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It accepts consent banners like a visitor, removes more than 60 known consent platforms plus newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, and lets you turn each cleanup step off.
Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and each response reports the result in X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

A practical decision guide
- Choose Chrome DevTools when you need a quick local image and do not want to install anything.
- Choose a maintained extension when repeated manual captures or annotation controls matter.
- Choose an API when captures must run on a schedule, in CI, from a backend, or across many URLs.
- Choose PDF output when the deliverable is meant to print or read as a document rather than preserve browser pixels.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture a full webpage without installing an extension?
Yes. Chrome on macOS includes the DevTools command Capture a full size screenshot.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Does the command capture content below the fold?
Yes. It captures the rendered page beyond the visible viewport, including content farther down the document.
Why is my screenshot missing lazy-loaded sections?
Wait for the page to finish loading and scroll through it once so viewport-triggered content can render, then capture again.
Should I use a screenshot or PDF for printing?
Use a PDF when you need a document with pagination and margins; the full-size command creates one tall image.
