The M8 is a reasonable office-focused alternative if its fixed 16GB of memory is sufficient and its feature mix or current price suits you. Neither is a proven overall performance winner: available sources do not include a controlled head-to-head benchmark.

The listed specifications favor the M7 for core count, graphics-core count and memory flexibility. Those figures do not establish how large the real-world speed difference is: no controlled M7-versus-M8 benchmark is available in the sources cited here.
Which model should you choose?
Choose the M7 for memory upgrades and more listed headroom
The M7 is the straightforward choice if you expect to replace or expand RAM: its two SO-DIMM slots support up to 64GB, whereas the M8’s 16GB is onboard and cannot be upgraded. The M7 also lists an eight-core Ryzen 7 PRO 6850H and Radeon 680M with twice the graphics cores of the M8’s Radeon 660M. That makes the M7 the more compelling specification-led option for heavier multitasking or graphics workloads, but it does not guarantee a particular application result or gaming frame rate.
Port selection may also favor the M7 in a setup that needs two USB4 connections or HDMI 2.1 and DP 2.0. Its US store listing showed sold-out status in the October 4, 2026 snapshot, so confirm stock, seller and exact configuration before buying.

Choose the M8 for a fixed-memory office setup
The M8 can suit office productivity if 16GB is enough for the applications you use and you do not need a RAM upgrade. TechRadar’s December 15, 2025 review described it as an office-oriented machine and reported strong workflow performance; it also discussed multi-display support, dual LAN and internal expansion. That is review evidence for the M8, not a comparison proving it is faster or slower than the M7. Read TechRadar’s M8 review.
The M8 offers one more USB-A Gen2 port than the M7, while both list dual 2.5GbE networking and OCuLink. It may also be easier to find at the listed US store snapshot price, but prices and stock can change.

For gaming or GPU-heavy creative work
The M7 has more listed integrated-graphics cores, but both machines rely on integrated graphics. Do not treat the specification difference as a promised frame rate or substitute for testing the games or creative applications you plan to use.
The M8 review discusses connecting an external GPU over OCuLink. An eGPU is not included, and the setup requires compatible external graphics hardware and its own power and connection arrangements. GMKtec says OCuLink is not hot-pluggable; on the M8, connect or disconnect it only while the system is powered off. GMKtec M8 specifications and guidance.

The 6-core, 12-thread platform provides responsive multitasking for home users, students, creators, and small-business environments.
- AMD RYZEN 5 PRO 6650H + RADEON 660M GRAPHICS - Built with Zen 3+ architecture and a 6nm process, the Ryzen 5 PRO 6650H features 6 cores, 12 threads, a 3.3GHz base clock, and up to 4.5GHz boost, with 3MB L2 and 16MB L3 cache. Radeon 660M integrated graphics provides 6 graphics cores running at up to 1,900MHz for smooth desktop visuals, high-resolution media playback, and capable integrated-graphics gaming.
- 16GB LPDDR5-6400 + 1TB PCIe SSD - This 16GB+1TB configuration includes 16GB LPDDR5-6400 memory and a 1TB M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 SSD for quick startup, responsive application loading, and convenient space for documents, projects, software, and media. The memory is onboard and not user-replaceable. Two M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots support storage expansion up to 16TB total, with up to 8TB per drive. Upgrades are not included.
- THREE BIOS POWER MODES + DUAL-FAN COOLING - Select the operating profile that matches your workload: Silent Mode at 28W, Balanced Mode at 35W, or Performance Mode at 40W. The M8 uses a dual-fan cooling architecture with dedicated CPU and system airflow, surrounding intake vents, and smart fan control to help manage heat during multitasking, creative applications, and gaming. BIOS-selectable profiles let you prioritize lower power operation or higher performance when needed.
- TRIPLE-DISPLAY SUPPORT + HIGH-RESOLUTION OUTPUT - Run up to three displays simultaneously through HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, and USB4. The specification lists up to 8K@60Hz support for the HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort outputs, while USB4 provides DisplayPort 1.4 video at up to 4K@60Hz. Create a multi-screen workspace for spreadsheets, research, meetings, content creation, monitoring, digital signage, or entertainment. Actual resolution depends on the display, cable, and output combination.
For multi-monitor setups
Compare the ports against your actual monitors, resolution, refresh rate, adapters and operating system rather than relying on a broad maximum-display claim. The M8 review discusses up to three connected displays, while the official specifications list its HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.4 interfaces. The M7 lists HDMI 2.1 and DP 2.0 as well as two USB4 ports. Check that the complete monitor chain supports your required mode before purchase.
Storage expansion: check the M8 interface details
Both models list two M.2 2280 storage slots, but the M8’s official page is internally inconsistent: its specification table identifies PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, while other feature copy says PCIe 3.0. The table also lists up to 8TB per slot. Confirm the supported interface and capacity for the exact M8 hardware revision with GMKtec before choosing an SSD. The M7 page specifies PCIe Gen4 x4 and up to 2TB expansion.

Price and availability: treat these as snapshots
On October 4, 2026, GMKtec’s US M8 page displayed $389.99 for the 16GB/512GB configuration and also listed a 1TB option. The US M7 page displayed $599.99 and sold-out status, with barebone, 16GB/512GB and 32GB/1TB choices in its configuration controls. These are snapshots from separate product listings, not a like-for-like retailer comparison or a guarantee of checkout price or availability.
TechRadar’s M8 review cited a then-current $329 price and Amazon availability on December 15, 2025; that is historical context, not a current offer. GMKtec’s November 2025 M8 launch announcement listed initial 16GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB offers at $329.99 and $359.99, with a launch promotion through December 30, 2025. Those promotional terms have expired. GMKtec’s M8 launch announcement.

Checks to make before ordering
- For the M8, decide whether fixed 16GB RAM is adequate for your workloads; GMKtec identifies it as non-upgradable.
- For an M8 SSD purchase, get confirmation of the PCIe generation and supported capacity for your hardware revision because the product page gives conflicting interface information.
- For either model, verify the exact configuration, seller, regional stock and price at checkout; the M7 US listing was marked sold out in the dated snapshot above.
- Do not connect or disconnect an OCuLink device while the PC is powered on. GMKtec describes OCuLink as not hot-pluggable.
- Check compatibility with your exact monitors, adapters, refresh rates and operating system rather than assuming listed ports guarantee every display arrangement.
Neither a controlled M7-versus-M8 performance comparison nor comparable measurements of noise or power use are established by the cited sources. The independent test evidence here concerns the M8 only.
