WiCAN PRO is an OBD-II adapter for vehicle diagnostics and CAN-bus development. It supports several vehicle protocols and connection methods, but it cannot guarantee that every car exposes every sensor or vehicle-specific value you want. ESPNetLink is described by its makers as an upcoming LTE/GPS module for WiCAN PRO; the available product and project documentation does not establish that it is released or available to order.
What WiCAN PRO does
MeatPi Electronics describes WiCAN PRO as a diagnostic OBD-II scanner built around a dedicated OBD interpreter chip and open-source WiCAN firmware. Its product page lists an ESP32-S3 platform, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), USB operation, a USB host for optional peripherals, microSD logging, and a multifunction button. These are manufacturer-listed features, not independent test results. See the WiCAN PRO product page and the WiCAN firmware repository.
The device can serve different DIY workflows: read standard diagnostic data, log data, connect compatible software, or work with raw CAN traffic for development. The repository lists compatibility with RealDash, SavvyCAN, BUSmaster, and python-can/SocketCAN. Software compatibility is only one part of a setup: your vehicle must also expose the data or bus traffic you need.
Which protocols and connections it supports
The manufacturer lists support for these protocols and bus types on WiCAN PRO:

WiCAN PRO can communicate over Wi-Fi, BLE, or USB. Choose the connection and software that fit your task: an app-based diagnostic workflow may use Wi-Fi, while a wired development setup may call for USB. Protocol support on the adapter does not mean every vehicle implements every listed protocol or makes every parameter available. Check the manufacturer’s product information and your vehicle’s supported-data documentation before depending on a specific protocol or value.
Will it work with your car and the data you want?
WiCAN Docs says, “WiCAN PRO supports most modern vehicles that use OBD2.” That is a broad compatibility statement, not a promise of access to every ECU, sensor, or manufacturer-specific parameter. Standard OBD-II PIDs are not exposed by every manufacturer; some readings require vehicle-specific PIDs instead. WiCAN’s FAQ and Automate documentation explain these limits.

For an electric vehicle or another use that depends on nonstandard data, check the supported-vehicles information before choosing the adapter. The FAQ advises users to open an issue if their model is missing and they want support added. That is a route to request support, not assurance that a particular parameter will become available.
- Identify the make, model, and year of your vehicle.
- Write down the exact values or functions you need, rather than relying on a general claim such as “EV data.”
- Check whether those values are standard OBD-II PIDs or require a vehicle-specific PID or profile.
- Confirm that the vehicle and selected profile expose the requested sensors before building a project around them.

WiCAN’s official Car Scanner guide describes Wi-Fi setup and automatic protocol detection for WiCAN PRO. Follow the current guide for configuration details because network settings can change with firmware.

- Plug WiCAN PRO into the vehicle’s OBD-II port.
- Connect to the adapter over Wi-Fi, using access-point or station mode as described in the Car Scanner setup guide.
- Configure Car Scanner to use the ELM327 protocol, following the guide’s current instructions.
- Use WiCAN PRO’s Auto Protocol Detection, then select the vehicle profile that matches your car.
- Check the sensors Car Scanner reports as available. The adapter cannot supply values the vehicle does not expose through the selected profile.
Logging data and building automations
WiCAN’s Automate feature can periodically poll configured PIDs and provide the resulting data over MQTT or HTTP. This can support monitoring and integrations such as Home Assistant, but it requires configuration and depends on the vehicle exposing the PIDs being polled. The Automate usage guide describes its setup.
For CAN-bus development, the project repository lists tools and libraries including SavvyCAN, BUSmaster, and python-can/SocketCAN. Treat this as a development interface rather than a promise that a particular vehicle will provide interpretable signals: raw bus access and decoded diagnostic parameters are different tasks.

Power and firmware-update caveat
WiCAN PRO cannot be powered through its USB-C connector. For USB firmware flashing, the firmware update guide instructs users to power the device from the vehicle’s OBD port and then connect the USB cable. If your planned setup depends on USB power alone, it will not meet that requirement.
What ESPNetLink adds—and what is not confirmed
The project repository describes ESPNetLink as an LTE and GPS module intended to add IoT connectivity and real-time vehicle tracking to WiCAN PRO. The manufacturer’s product page calls it an upcoming module, while the project repository directs readers to subscribe for updates. These descriptions establish the intended role, but do not establish a release date, current stock, price, or order route. Check the maker’s current announcement before planning a purchase or build around it.
