Start with Battery Saver for the biggest immediate change; then adjust screen, sleep, LTE, location, and music settings to suit how you use the watch. Google estimates up to 30 hours with Always-on Display on the 41 mm Pixel Watch 5 and up to 40 hours on the 45 mm model. In Battery Saver, its estimates rise to up to 48 and 72 hours, respectively. These are maximum estimates under Google’s specified test conditions, not guaranteed runtimes for an individual routine.
How long should a Pixel Watch 5 battery last?
Google’s estimates differ by watch size and mode:

Google says these maximum estimates are based on testing in California in 2026 with pre-production hardware and software, default settings, and a median Pixel user battery-use profile. Actual battery life can be lower and varies with usage, mobile network and signal strength, enabled features, environment, and other factors. Google’s battery-life guidance and its Pixel Watch 5 announcement provide the estimates and qualifications.
Turn on Battery Saver for the biggest immediate change
Battery Saver is the quickest broad way to extend runtime. On the watch, swipe down, open Settings > Battery > Battery saver, and confirm. You can also set it to turn on automatically at 15% battery.

Battery Saver turns off Always-on Display and limits background activity, which can delay notifications. Tilt-to-wake remains enabled. Google says the mode maintains key health and fitness tracking and supports basic tasks such as checking the time, receiving notifications, making calls, and GPS workouts without music. Choose it when extra runtime matters more than having background activity and notifications behave as usual.
Reduce screen activity without changing everything
Turn off Always-on Display
Open Settings > Display on the watch and turn off Always-on Display. The screen will no longer stay visible when you are not actively looking at it. You can wake it when needed, but glanceability changes. Google does not quantify how many hours this individual change saves.
Disable Tilt-to-wake if the screen wakes accidentally
Open Settings > Gestures and turn off Tilt-to-wake. This can help if ordinary wrist movements frequently wake the screen, but you will need another way to wake it. It is less useful if you rely on lifting your wrist to check the time.

Shorten screen timeout
Go to Settings > Display > Screen timeout and choose a shorter option. The display will switch off sooner after you interact with it. Treat this as a modest adjustment; Google does not publish a specific runtime gain for the setting.

Use Bedtime mode while tracking sleep
Enable Bedtime mode from Quick Settings when you go to sleep. It turns off the display, Tilt-to-wake, and Touch-to-wake, helping reduce overnight screen activity. While it is on, only alarms, priority notifications, and repeat callers notify you. This is useful for sleep tracking and overnight wear; there is no need to leave it on throughout the day.
Manage LTE only when another connection is available
If you have the LTE model and it is draining quickly on cellular, set Mobile to Automatic or Off in the watch’s mobile settings. Automatic uses cellular only when Bluetooth or Wi-Fi is unavailable; Off disables the cellular radio.

Do not turn LTE off by default if you depend on the watch while your phone is offline. With Mobile set to Off, some functions, including making a phone call, may not work when the watch cannot use another connection.
Save power during GPS workouts and music playback
Google recommends enabling Google Location Accuracy for power-efficient location information. For workouts, downloading music to the watch instead of streaming it can also reduce battery use; Google says streaming drains the battery faster.
Google gives general Pixel Watch guidance of 8–10 hours with continuous GPS use. This is not identified as a Pixel Watch 5-specific test result, so do not treat it as a guaranteed workout duration for either size. The sources do not quantify how much battery you will save by changing location settings or downloading music.

Separate battery runtime from battery health
Adaptive charging and Battery Defender help protect the battery or manage charging; neither promises more runtime on the current charge.
- Adaptive charging: Available on Pixel Watch 4 and 5. Turn it on at Settings > Battery. Google says it minimizes degradation when the watch stays fully charged for an extended period.
- Battery Defender: If the watch stays on the charger for four days or longer, charging may pause to protect the battery. Removing and replacing the watch on the charger allows it to charge beyond 80%.
Make a short charging window count
Google says the Pixel Watch 5 Quick Charge Dock is included with the watch. Under Google’s stated charging guidance, a 15-minute charge provides up to 15 hours of battery life, and the watch can charge from 0% to 80% in 20 minutes. Actual results depend on factors including battery age and temperature; these charging figures do not mean the watch’s capacity has increased.
If a charger in another location or a travel bag would be useful, an optional Pixel Watch 5 Quick Charge Dock can provide that convenience. It is not required to improve runtime.

Why is your Pixel Watch 5 battery draining so fast?
Battery life varies with watch size, usage, mobile network, signal strength, enabled features, environment, and other factors, according to Google’s support guidance. Check for frequent screen wakeups, cellular use, GPS workouts, and streamed music, then change the setting tied to the behavior you actually see. Try one adjustment at a time so you can tell whether the tradeoff is worthwhile; Google does not publish isolated hour savings for these toggles.
If the problem is charging rather than runtime, check that the watch is aligned on its dock, the dock is connected, and both are dry. Use the included official charger; Pixel Watch 4 and 5 can alert if a charger is unsupported or misaligned. Reverse wireless charging from Pixel phones is not supported. If it still will not charge or hold charge, follow Google’s charging troubleshooting guidance.
