What the May 2025 evidence actually shows
The clearest time-stamped list located for the period was published by Thordata on February 20, 2025. It called the following addresses “working” after checks on that date:

That list proves only that its publisher said the domains responded to checks on February 20. It does not prove that they worked in May, worked in every country, or were genuine 1337x-operated domains. Several entries also conflict with a separate fraud-prevention page that warns about 1337x.tw, 1377x.to, 1337xx.to, and various “official” lookalikes.

Domains described as associated with 1337x
A GitHub-hosted page titled “1337x – Official Domains” lists:
1337x.to1337x.stx1337x.wsx1337x.eux1337x.se1337x.is1337x.gd
That page also supplies claimed “active since” dates for several addresses. Those dates are claims made by the page, not independently verified registration or ownership records. A separate page presenting itself as a 1337x fraud-prevention resource lists a shorter set—1337x.to, 1337x.st, x1337x.cc, x1337x.ws, x1337x.eu, and x1337x.se—and says that 1337x.so expired and is no longer controlled by 1337x.
These sources do not agree, so it would be misleading to turn either page into a definitive “official domains” registry. The discrepancy is itself useful: domain lists in this area can be copied, changed, abandoned, or repurposed without a reliable public ownership trail.

Why “working” is an incomplete claim
A proxy can load a search page while failing at the functions users actually expect. Its index may be stale, torrent files may be unavailable, magnet links may be altered, comments may not load, or the site may redirect every download button to an advertisement. A successful DNS lookup or an HTTP 200 response measures connectivity—not legitimacy.

Availability also depends on location. ISP filtering, DNS resolvers, court orders, server outages, and domain changes can produce different results for users in different countries. BREIN, the Dutch anti-piracy organisation, describes the relevant 1337x proxy and mirror group as dynamic and says associated domains can fluctuate or disappear after blocking. A domain listed in February could therefore have been inaccessible to some users before May, while a newly created copy might have appeared later.
Legal and enforcement context
The U.S. Trade Representative’s 2025 Review of Notorious Markets, published in 2026, identifies 1337X under 1337x.to and names 1337x.tw as a related site. It describes the service as linking to torrent files used to obtain unlicensed films, television, music, games, software, and other copyrighted works. The report also notes blocking measures affecting variants in multiple countries.

Blocking is not limited to one familiar domain. A 2025 French court decision ordered major internet providers to prevent subscribers in France from accessing 1337x and specified domains including 1337x-official.to. The practical point is simple: a proxy or mirror may later be blocked, and accessing a different domain does not remove copyright restrictions or local law.
Security risks with copied mirrors
Lookalike torrent sites create several predictable failure modes:
- Fake download controls: large buttons may download an unrelated executable, browser extension, or advertising package instead of a torrent file.
- Credential theft: a clone may request an email address, password, payment details, or a browser notification permission that the genuine site does not require.
- Redirect chains: multiple tabs, pop-ups, and forced redirects can lead to scam pages or malware.
- Malicious content: torrent metadata does not make the file safe. Pirated games, applications, documents, and media can contain malware.
- Abandoned domains: an old address may expire and be acquired by an unrelated operator while retaining familiar branding.
A security review of 1337x.to reports intrusive advertising and redirects and classifies the domain as elevated risk. The FBI has separately warned that torrented content and pirated software can contain malware capable of enrolling a device in a residential proxy network. It also warns that some free VPN products can do something similar through hidden terms or bundled software. A free VPN or proxy is therefore not automatically a safety measure.

How to interpret a proxy-list article
- Check the publication date and test date. “Working” on February 20 does not verify availability on May 20.
- Separate access from ownership. A page that loads may be an independent proxy or a copycat, not an official mirror.
- Look for conflicting reports. If one source calls a domain genuine and another calls it fake, report the disagreement instead of choosing the more convenient claim.
- Do not enter credentials or payment information. A torrent index should not be treated as a trusted login service.
- Do not run downloaded files casually. Keep operating systems, browsers, and security software updated, and obtain copyrighted software and media through authorised sources.
- Check local law. Copyright rules and blocking orders differ by country, and a proxy does not make infringement lawful.

Can a proxy be trusted if it uses HTTPS?
No. HTTPS encrypts the connection to that domain; it does not prove that the operator is genuine or that downloads, advertisements, redirects, and files are safe.
Does a 1337x mirror bypass copyright law or ISP blocking?
