Monero mining in 2021 used RandomX, but the available evidence does not establish a date-stamped, comparable snapshot of CPU hashrates from that year. The figures below are useful RandomX reference measurements—not a 2021 leaderboard or a guaranteed result for your computer.

What “Monero CPU hashrate in 2021” means

Monero activated RandomX on 30 November 2019, so 2021 Monero CPU mining was in the RandomX era rather than the earlier CryptoNight era. Hashrate is the number of hashes computed per second, abbreviated H/s. A figure is meaningful only alongside the algorithm mode and benchmark conditions that produced it.

The RandomX project’s selected-CPU table reports performance in H/s using an optimal number of threads and large pages where possible. It lists these examples:

Processor RandomX mode Threads Reported hashrate Source and qualification
Intel Core i9-9900K Fast 8 5,770 H/s RandomX project reference table; optimal-thread and large-page conditions where possible, not identified as a 2021 result.
AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Fast 8 4,100 H/s RandomX project reference table; optimal-thread and large-page conditions where possible, not identified as a 2021 result.
Intel Core i7-8550U Fast 4 1,700 H/s RandomX project reference table; optimal-thread and large-page conditions where possible, not identified as a 2021 result.
Intel Core i9-9900K Light 16 1,160 H/s RandomX project reference table; mode and thread count differ from its fast-mode entry.

The i9-9900K entries illustrate why raw numbers should not be compared without context: fast and light mode, as well as thread count, differ. These reference-table rates are not proof of what every 2021 system—or every machine with the same processor—achieved.

Why there is no defensible 2021 leaderboard here

XMRig’s public benchmark is a live, crowd-contributed database. When viewed on 5 October 2026, its page showed 2,335 unique CPUs and 89,887 samples; those mutable totals describe the page at that time, not 2021 statistics. The current page cannot be treated as an archived snapshot of historical performance. See the XMRig RandomX benchmark.

The XMRig AMD results page includes a Ryzen 9 5950X entry of 12,920.73 H/s in a search-result excerpt, with five samples. The entry’s result date and connection to 2021 are not established, so it is not a historical 2021 figure and should not be ranked against the reference examples as one. The live listing is at XMRig’s AMD benchmark results.

Without a date-stamped dataset with comparable settings, it is not possible to state a representative 2021 range or rank CPUs for that year. A crowd-submitted result also cannot guarantee the performance of another computer with the same CPU model.

  • VERSATILE DESIGN: Convertible laptop-to-tablet functionality with adjustable touchscreen display, perfect for managing mining operations with enhanced control.
  • MINING SOFTWARE: Pre-installed with cgminer and NiceHash, ready for immediate Monero (XMR) mining and capable of managing various mining equipment.
  • EFFICIENT OPERATION: Consumes only 30 watts of power with a large capacity battery providing up to 6 hours of runtime.
  • COMPLETE PACKAGE: Includes USB-C charging cable, Bluetooth mouse, and universal power supply compatible with 110V to 220V for worldwide use.
  • Exact CPU and platform: Record the full processor model and platform rather than only the brand or product family.
  • Algorithm variant and mode: Confirm that both figures use the same RandomX variant and fast or light mode.
  • Threads: Include the number of threads used; a processor’s reported rate can change with its thread configuration.
  • Memory and benchmark settings: Note large-page and JIT settings, memory configuration, and operating system where known.
  • Run duration: Separate a quick synthetic result from a longer run that reflects sustained thermal behavior.
  • Provenance: Record the benchmark source, date, and sample count. A single crowd-submitted sample is not a universal expectation.

XMRig’s benchmark documentation says its built-in test runs between one and ten million RandomX hashes, depending on the bench parameter. It distinguishes the Monero variant, described as using 2 MB of CPU cache per thread, from the Wownero variant, described as using 1 MB per thread. Those variants should not be conflated when comparing results. Details are in XMRig’s benchmark documentation.

How to benchmark your own CPU with XMRig

XMRig’s benchmarking guide gives two example commands for Windows. Run them from a command prompt in the directory containing xmrig.exe:

  1. Quick run: xmrig.exe --bench=1M. This runs a shorter benchmark and is useful for a quick comparison.
  2. Longer run: xmrig.exe --bench=10M. This takes longer and, according to the guide, is closer to sustained behavior because the CPU can reach a steady thermal state.

These commands are examples from the XMRig guide, not independent test results. For a useful local comparison, keep the setup consistent between runs and allow the longer test to expose sustained thermal behavior. Save the output alongside the CPU model, thread count, operating system, memory setup, and relevant benchmark settings. The guide is available at XMRig Software’s RandomX CPU benchmarking page.

What a benchmark does—and does not—tell you

A benchmark estimates hashing performance under its test conditions. It does not by itself establish mining earnings or profitability. The official Monero mining guide provides project guidance on mining, but the hashrate examples above do not establish current rewards, electricity costs, or whether mining is economical for a particular system.
