To use Super Resolution in Windows 11 Photos, open an image, choose Edit > Super Resolution, select a scale, and compare the preview. The feature is available only on Copilot+ PCs running Windows 11; it does not support videos or GIFs.

Check whether your PC and file are supported

Microsoft says Super Resolution in Photos is exclusive to Copilot+ PCs running Windows 11. It currently works with images, not videos or GIFs. If the option is missing, confirm both the device and the selected file meet those requirements.

Microsoft’s Super resolution in Photos support page documents the feature and its requirements.

Upscale an image with Super Resolution

  1. Open the image in the Photos app.

  2. Select Edit. You can also use Edit image (Ctrl+E) as an editing entry point; labels may differ in your installed version of Photos.

What Super Resolution changes

Microsoft describes Super Resolution as increasing an image’s pixel dimensions while enhancing sharpness. Its support article gives an illustrative example of an image changing from 256 × 256 pixels to 1012 × 1012 pixels. That example is not a promise of the output size for every image.

Microsoft says the feature’s AI model runs locally on the device and does not send data to external services or servers. Microsoft also describes the model as non-generative: it enhances existing images rather than creating new content. These are Microsoft’s product statements, not independent assessments of the model or its output.

Keep or discard the enhancement

Inspect the preview before settling on an enhancement. Microsoft says you can discard the change or undo/reset it in the editor if you do not want to keep the result.
