These are community-guide recommendations, not official developer documentation, so check the live game for current gates and rewards before committing to a long grind.
Choose the right grind for your goal
Character levels come primarily from quest chains, while weapon mastery grows through using a weapon and unlocks later weapon moves, according to a September 30, 2026 community progression guide. Training a weapon does not replace the quest route for character XP, and questing does not automatically make mastery rise unless you are using the weapon in combat. - For character XP: prioritize the quest giver in your current region and move on when turn-ins no longer make useful progress.
- For weapon mastery: choose the weapon family you plan to use, equip it, and keep using it while completing quests.

The September 30 route guide places Final Selection around level 58. An older launch-week guide instead suggests a level 40–45 window, so do not treat either number as a guaranteed entry requirement without checking the current game. The older beginner guide is a useful illustration of why route details can become stale.
Make quest runs efficient
- Turn in completed quests promptly rather than continuing to fight after the objective is done.
- Move out of an outgrown zone instead of over-farming enemies that no longer advance your route efficiently.
- Group up when shared targets or faster clears make the objective easier; the benefit depends on the players and server.
Raise weapon mastery through active weapon use
A community mastery guide says mastery advances while swinging the equipped weapon. Under that guidance, waiting idle at a quest giver will not build mastery. Keep the weapon equipped during combat and use a repeatable loop against enemies you can defeat quickly. This is community advice rather than official confirmation, and the game’s current behavior should take precedence. Read the mastery guide.

Pick the weapon family before grinding
Later moves are gated along mastery lines, according to the progression guide. Committing to the weapon family you expect to keep using avoids spreading combat time across weapons whose mastery you do not need. You can still follow the same character-level quest route: equip the chosen weapon and use it on the route’s enemies.
Choose an activity by level and objective
- Before the level cap: quest chains are the community guide’s preferred route for character levels; dungeons are described as useful for mastery.
- At the reported cap: Crow and Biwa Bell quests are recommended for mastery and endgame farming.
- If using PvP: ranked PvP is described as a moderate mastery option, not the fastest established method.
- Private servers: the farming guide ranks them lower for experience; it does not provide a measured rate or guarantee that they improve mastery.
These rankings come from the guide’s qualitative comparisons, not a controlled rate test. Server conditions and later updates may change which activity is practical.

Check requirements before pursuing a breathing style
A September 30, 2026 beginner guide reports a level-25 requirement for its breathing-style trainer chain, which includes meditation, strength tasks, and a parkour dungeon. It also says horn requirements vary by style and warns that gates and prices can change in early access. Inspect the trainer’s current requirements before farming for a level, item, or currency requirement. The beginner guide is community material, not an authoritative live requirements list.

The newest consulted leveling guide, dated September 30, 2026, reports a cap of 255 and says older videos may mention 225 from an earlier build. A separate launch-week guide dated September 19, 2026 still lists 225. The newer figure is the better current reference among these sources, but the conflict means players should verify the cap in the live client after updates. The September 30 guide and the September 19 guide are both community sources.
