In this Itechguide, Victor answers the question “how does amazon wish list work”?

What is an Amazon Wish List?

To answer the question, “how does amazon wish list work”, the first logical place to start is to explain what an Amazon Wish List is.

It is a list of products you will like to receive as gift items.

The basic idea behind a Wish List is to let other people (with access to the list) know what gifts you would like to receive.

Though you can make a Wish List private (only available to you – more on this later), the primary purpose of creating a Wish List is to make it easy for other people to buy you gifts you actually need!

Apart from Amazon Wish List, there are 2* other types of Amazon Lists – Shopping Lists and Idea Lists.

An Amazon Shopping List is a list of items you want to purchase later. However, an Amazon Idea List is created for the whole Amazon community.

*Amazon also has Baby Registries and Wedding Registries – these are also types of Lists.

While a Wish List is created for others to see what gifts you would like to receive, a Shopping List is created for your own use and an Idea List is created for the wider Amazon community.

Amazon Wish List Privacy

To further answer the question, “how does amazon wish list work”, in this section, I will be explaining how Wish List Privacy works.

The Wish List Privacy setting allows you to set who has access to the Wish List. By default, when you create a Wish List, Amazon selects Public as the Privacy setting.

This makes sense as the primary purpose of a Wish List is for others to have access to it. However, you can also create a private Wish List. But instead of creating a private Wish List, you can create a Shopping List.

Amazon Wish List Privacy Explained

When you create a private Wish List, only you can see this list. However, you can share a private Wish List with others.

On the other hand, for a public Wish List, anybody with access to your Amazon List will see the Wish List.

Amazon Wish List “View” or “View and Edit” Privacy Settings Explained

Finally, to answer the question, “how does amazon wish list work”, this section explains the difference between the “View” or “View and Edit” privacy settings.

When you share a Wish List, you have to decide whether anybody with the link can simply “View” or “View and Edit” items on the list.

With the “View” permission, other people cannot add or remove items from the list. However, when you select the “View and Edit” option, anybody with access to the list can make changes to the Wish List.
