Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsGogs is a self-hosted Git service: it gives a small team a web interface for repositories and collaboration while you control the server, data, and updates. You can run it as a standalone binary or in Docker, on hardware such as a Raspberry Pi or on a cloud virtual machine. The trade-off is operational responsibility: you must configure network access, protect credentials, back up persistent data, and keep the installation patched.
What Gogs provides
Gogs is a Go-based service for hosting Git repositories, not merely a bare Git daemon. Its project describes it as a “simple, stable and extensible self-hosted Git service.” It offers repository access over SSH, HTTP, and HTTPS, plus web-based tools for managing users, organizations, and repositories.
Collaboration features include issues, pull requests, wikis, protected branches, webhooks, Git hooks, deploy keys, and Git LFS. It also supports repository migration and mirroring, a web editor, and rendering for selected file types. Authentication options listed by the project include SMTP, LDAP, reverse proxy, GitHub.com, and GitHub Enterprise; 2FA is mentioned for the GitHub authentication options. Database choices include PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, and SQLite3. Gogs is licensed under MIT. Gogs project repository
The project also lists Jenkins, Puppet, Synology Docker, and Syncloud App Store support, along with deployment references. These are project-listed integrations and references, not a guarantee that each third-party platform remains supported today.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose where and how to run it
The practical choice is between running the binary yourself and running a container, and between a host on your local network and a cloud virtual machine. In either case, you maintain the operating system, network exposure, data persistence, and security updates.
| Option | What it means | Operational considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Standalone binary | Run Gogs directly on a supported platform; the project describes binaries for Linux, macOS, Windows, and ARM systems. | You manage the service process, configuration, database, storage, and updates on the host. |
| Docker | Run Gogs in a container with configuration and data mounted or stored persistently. | You manage the container configuration, persistent volumes, host networking, and image updates. Follow current official image guidance rather than assuming older tags or options still apply. |
| Local or single-board hardware | Keep the service on hardware you operate, such as a Raspberry Pi. | You are responsible for availability, network reachability, storage, backups, and security at the host and router. |
| Cloud virtual machine | Run Gogs on a rented server reachable over the internet or a private network. | You still administer the instance and its data; public reachability makes careful SSH/HTTPS configuration and prompt patching especially important. |
Gogs says a Raspberry Pi or a $5 DigitalOcean Droplet is enough to get started. That is an example from the project README, not a current price quote, hardware test, or guarantee for a particular workload. It gives “2 CPU cores and 512MB RAM” as a baseline for teamwork, and advises adding CPU cores as a team grows; treat that as project guidance rather than a capacity guarantee. It does not establish hardware requirements for a defined team size or repository workload. Gogs project README

Plan configuration and persistent data
For Docker, the official guide says Gogs requires an app.ini configuration file before it starts. Its example covers the external URL, repository location, database, and secret key, and demonstrates supplying database and secret values through environment variables. The guide also documents bind mounts and named volumes. Repository data, SSH settings, configuration, other data, and logs live under the persistent data tree in its examples. Official Gogs Docker guide
That persistence is central to operating the service: container recreation or host replacement must not leave repositories, configuration, or database data behind. Choose a database and storage layout you can back up and restore, and test recovery rather than assuming that a running container is a backup. The cited setup guide explains persistence options but does not prescribe a backup provider or a complete backup schedule.

Before making the instance reachable to a team, decide whether users will connect by SSH, HTTP, or HTTPS, set the correct externally visible URL, and configure authentication to match who should be able to sign in. A self-hosted code host contains valuable source and credentials; access control and secret handling belong in the deployment plan, not as follow-up chores.
Check Docker image guidance before deploying
The legacy Docker guide explicitly warns that its image “lacks modern security best practices” and points to a next-generation security-focused image guide. The changelog says the legacy image is deprecated, is planned to receive a legacy-latest tag starting with version 0.16.0, and is planned for removal no earlier than 0.17.0. It also says the next-generation image is intended to become the default at 0.16.0, while noting that not all container options were supported at the time of that changelog entry. These are roadmap statements, not proof that a specific tag or option is current on the day you deploy. Check the live Docker documentation and available tags before copying an image reference. Understand the release and security status
As of October 4, 2026, the official releases page listed Gogs 0.14.3, dated June 7, 2026, as the latest stable release. Its notes include security fixes, among them fixes for unauthenticated file uploads and protected-branch bypasses. Release information changes, so check the official page when selecting a version rather than treating 0.14.3 as permanently current. Official Gogs releases
The project security policy says vulnerability patches are provided only for releases on the latest minor version line. The security page showed advisories published in June 2026 for critical path traversal leading to remote code execution and critical arbitrary file write issues, as well as high-severity LFS disclosure and repository-write issues. It also listed a moderate open-redirect advisory published September 22, 2026. The project notes that not all accepted advisories are published, so the visible list is not necessarily exhaustive. Do not confuse development notes with released behavior
The changelog’s main-branch notes describe development beyond the stable release. They say self-registration is disabled by default for a new instance on that branch; enabling sign-ups requires [auth] DISABLE_REGISTRATION = false. That note may not describe every older release or an existing installation. The same development notes record a move to Go 1.25 for source builds and a pure-Go SQLite driver that removes the CGO requirement. Check the documentation and configuration matching the exact release or branch you run rather than applying development-branch behavior to a stable installation. Gogs changelog
Is Gogs a fit for your team?
Gogs makes sense when you want control over where Git repositories live and are willing to operate the service. Its documented feature set covers basic repository hosting and common collaboration workflows, while the range of database and authentication options gives operators room to fit an existing environment. The choice is less attractive if nobody can take responsibility for patching, access control, persistence, and recovery: self-hosting transfers those duties to you.
