Short answer: Dott’s Chrono Trigger HD-2D project is a visual concept video, not a playable remake. It imagines the game’s pixel-art characters in three-dimensional, diorama-like surroundings; there are no verified gameplay changes to compare. A separate Windows download by tyanuziello recreates one scene, the End of Time, and is not Dott’s project or a full game.

What would look different?
The concept’s main difference is presentation. Vandal describes HD-2D as pixel-art visuals placed in 3D environments, giving scenes a diorama-like appearance. Dott’s video applies that idea to Chrono Trigger, including a view of Leene Square. It shows an imagined visual direction, not a measured upgrade: the available report does not establish a resolution, performance improvement, or a complete set of redesigned areas.
The Steam edition’s “Original” graphics option is a documented choice within the PC release, not part of the fan concept. Square Enix also documented display and interface adjustments in its April 2018 patch notes. The two are different kinds of comparison: one is an option in a released edition, while the other is a visual proposal shown in a video.
Are there gameplay differences?
There are no verified gameplay differences for Dott’s project. Because Vandal reported that no playable demo was planned, there is no demonstrated combat, exploration, progression, or story implementation to compare with the original. That means gameplay changes are unverified—not that the concept’s designers have proved they would never change anything.

For context, Square Enix’s April 2018 notes for the Steam edition mention an optional battle UI designed around controller or keyboard play, alongside other interface and display adjustments. Those are PC-edition features; they should not be attributed to Dott’s video.
Do not confuse it with the End of Time download
A separate project by tyanuziello is available as a Windows download. Its itch.io listing describes a Godot recreation of Chrono Trigger’s End of Time in an HD-2D art style and lists a 29 MB file. So, if you encounter a playable file while searching for the HD-2D video, check the creator and scope: the named Dott project is a concept video; the separately listed download recreates one location.

Square Enix’s Japanese Chrono Trigger page identifies a Steam edition and mentions upgrades to graphics, sound, and controls.
