The Casio MTP-E740 is a three-hand analog watch with a day-and-date display, and its translucent dial lets the calendar discs beneath show through. In owner photos and clips reported by Notebookcheck, that layered construction looks more vivid and dimensional than Casio’s clean product imagery—especially on the orange 4AV. These are reported visual impressions, not results from an independent watch test.
Why the MTP-E740 dial looks different in real-life photos
The translucent section is the design’s defining feature: instead of hiding the day and date discs, the dial makes their printed surfaces part of the view. Casio confirms the watch’s day-and-date function; the view of the discs through the dial is described in launch coverage and owner imagery.
Notebookcheck’s October 6, 2026 report draws on photos and clips from owners and watch-video creators. It says the orange MTP-E740-4AV appears especially rich outdoors. The teal 3AV can look greener or bluer as the viewing angle changes. Those are observations from images, not measured color or reflectance characteristics.
Studio-style product images are useful for showing the watch’s overall design, but they cannot capture every change in ambient light, angle, and reflections. The owner imagery makes the visible printing beneath the translucent dial easier to appreciate, which gives the face a more layered appearance.

What the official specifications confirm
Casio’s regional listings identify the MTP-E740 as a three-hand analog watch with day and date. The India listing for the 4AV variant gives the following specifications:
- Case dimensions: 45 × 39.8 × 8.7 mm.
- Weight: 103 g.
- Materials: stainless-steel case, bezel, and band, with mineral glass.
- Water resistance: 50 meters.
- Battery: SR920SW, with an estimated life of approximately three years.
- Accuracy: ±20 seconds per month.
- Day display: English and Spanish are listed for this India variant.
These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent measurements. Casio’s Singapore listing for the 1AV gives the common dimensions, weight, materials, and water-resistance rating; it also lists a compatible band size of 150–205 mm. The regional pages do not establish activity-specific water-use guidance, so the 50-meter rating alone should not be treated as a swimming or diving recommendation.

Variants, prices, and regional availability
Casio’s product pages show different color variants and market-specific prices. A listing in one country does not establish that the same model is stocked or sold at the same price elsewhere.

Is the MTP-E740 based on the Seiko Time Sonar?
T3’s September 10, 2026 launch coverage compares the MTP-E740’s translucent-dial effect with the Seiko Time Sonar. That is a visual comparison, not a confirmed design lineage: Casio has not officially connected the MTP-E740 to the Seiko design. The resemblance should not be taken as evidence that the watch was copied from, licensed from, or inspired by that model.

- Match the full model suffix to the color and market listing you want; the owner-photo report describes different impressions for the orange 4AV and teal 3AV.
- Confirm the local price and stock with Casio or an authorized dealer rather than relying on another country’s listing.
- Check the exact regional SKU for day-display language; the India 4AV listing specifies English and Spanish, but that configuration should not be assumed for every market.
- Use Casio’s product information for the exact watch when deciding how its water-resistance rating applies to your intended use.
