Short answer: choose ApiFlash when your application needs image screenshots and short bursts up to its documented 20 requests per second (with a burst size of 400). Choose ScreenshotAPI.net when native PDF, listed video/scrolling capture, scheduling, bulk processing, or extraction are more important than per-second burst capacity. Neither service can be called universally faster or more reliable from the public evidence available. For a third option, ScreenshotNeo is the first alternative to try: it removes consent banners and other clutter before capture, bills only clean shots, and has a $5 paid plan.

What each API does

Both services accept a URL, render it in a hosted Chromium/Chrome environment, and return a capture. They are useful for link previews, monitoring, archives, reports and automated testing without maintaining your own browser workers.

ApiFlash

ApiFlash documents GET and POST requests. Image data is returned by default, with JSON metadata available when requested. Its documented formats are JPEG, PNG and WebP. Full-page and viewport screenshots, caching, delay or wait controls, and quota headers are supported. ApiFlash says it uses an up-to-date Chrome version and runs over AWS Lambda.

ScreenshotAPI.net

ScreenshotAPI.net documents a Chromium-based REST capture service that returns PNG, JPEG, WebP and PDF. Its product material also lists full-page capture, custom rendering parameters, text/HTML extraction, bulk processing, scheduling, and video or scrolling capture. Check the current plan table before committing because some workflow features are tier-dependent.

PDF output Not documented in the reviewed material Supported across the listed product tiers
Full-page and viewport capture Yes Yes
Waiting, delay and caching Documented Custom rendering parameters documented

Scheduling Not established in the reviewed material Listed; verify tier limits
Text or HTML extraction Not established in the reviewed material Listed

Rate limits: bursts versus sustained traffic

ApiFlash’s per-second model

ApiFlash documents a leaky-bucket policy of 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400. Requests above the nominal rate can wait while burst capacity remains; once that capacity is exceeded, the API can return HTTP 429. This model can fit a preview service that occasionally receives a sharp burst, provided your queue, timeout and retry policy accommodate delayed responses.

ScreenshotAPI.net’s per-minute model

ScreenshotAPI.net’s help and pricing material lists 20, 40 or 80 requests per minute depending on subscription. Do not treat those figures as interchangeable with 20 requests per second: the highest listed minute limit is 1.33 requests per second on average. It may still be suitable for scheduled reports, monitoring and batch jobs whose traffic is deliberately spread out.

How to size a queue

  1. Count fresh, unique pages you must render in your busiest minute, not merely HTTP attempts.
  2. Measure the page’s normal load time and set a client timeout that leaves room for retries.
  3. Throttle workers below the provider’s limit and honor HTTP 429 responses with exponential backoff.
  4. Keep idempotent job records so a retry cannot create duplicate reports or overwrite the wrong URL.

Pricing and quota at the published September 29, 2026 rates

Prices and entitlements are live commercial terms; verify them before purchase. The figures below are monthly prices visible on the providers’ pages on September 29, 2026.

Monthly volume ApiFlash ScreenshotAPI.net
Trial/free 100 screenshots, no credit card stated 7-day trial with 100 screenshots
1,000 screenshots Lite: $7/month Essential: $9/month
10,000 screenshots Medium: $35/month Startup: $29/month
100,000 screenshots Large: $180/month Business: $175/month

At the listed volumes, ApiFlash is cheaper at 1,000 captures; ScreenshotAPI.net is cheaper at 10,000 and 100,000. A limited-time first-month promotion was visible on ScreenshotAPI.net’s page, so it should not be treated as the recurring price.

Both providers state that cached captures and failed renders do not count toward the monthly quota. ScreenshotAPI.net says cached screenshots are stored for 30 days. Model your estimate around unique, fresh renders and confirm how your account defines a cache hit, failure and refresh.

Which API is faster or more reliable?

There is no defensible universal winner in the published material. A vendor-published comparison associates ApiFlash’s AWS Lambda architecture and per-second limit with latency-sensitive previews, while associating ScreenshotAPI.net’s scheduling, batch and monitoring features with workflow-heavy jobs. It references third-party speed measurements without enough methodology or reproducible figures to support a head-to-head result.

Public reliability evidence also differs in kind. ApiFlash says it does not publicly display uptime statistics. ScreenshotAPI.net provides an uptime and incident-history page, but the material reviewed here does not establish comparable historical percentages over the same period. The presence of a status page is useful for incident visibility, not proof of superior availability.

Run your own representative test

  • Use pages from your actual domain mix, including JavaScript-heavy pages, authenticated pages where permitted, and slow media pages.
  • Record time to response, output dimensions, HTTP errors, visual completeness and cache status.
  • Repeat at your normal concurrency and at the burst you expect during launches or traffic spikes.
  • Test PDF pagination and any extraction, scheduling or bulk workflow you intend to operate.

Decision guide

Pick ApiFlash when

  • You need JPEG, PNG or WebP rather than PDF or video.
  • Your traffic arrives in short bursts and a 20-request-per-second policy with a 400-request burst is useful.
  • Its lower 1,000-screenshot price fits your current volume.
  • You want documented wait, delay, cache and quota-header controls without a larger workflow suite.

Pick ScreenshotAPI.net when

  • PDF is a first-class output requirement.
  • You need listed scheduling, bulk processing, extraction, scrolling or video capabilities.
  • Your workload can operate within a 20–80 requests-per-minute plan limit.
  • The lower published price at 10,000 or 100,000 screenshots outweighs ApiFlash’s lower entry tier.

Put quota accounting in your cost model

Calculate monthly fresh renders, then add headroom for cache misses, page changes and retries. Compare the plan’s feature entitlement and rate limit with that workload; the cheapest headline price can be expensive if it forces a higher tier for PDF, video or scheduling.

ScreenshotNeo: an alternative to try first

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It ranks first as an alternative here because it removes common page clutter before capture, bills only clean shots, and offers a lower paid entry point.

  • Before capture it accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets. Each cleanup step can be turned off.
  • Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed. Response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed.
  • It supports PNG, JPEG, WebP and PDF, plus full-page capture with lazy images, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets, arbitrary viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size/margins/landscape/page ranges, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, waits, blocking rules, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, chosen cache TTLs, signed image links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of 100 URLs per call, usage API and OpenAPI specification.
  • An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.

Plans include 1,000 free shots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is on every plan. Yearly billing gives two months free.

Troubleshooting

HTTP 429 or throttling

For ApiFlash, you may have exceeded the 20-request-per-second bucket or exhausted the 400-request burst. For ScreenshotAPI.net, you may have exceeded your plan’s per-minute limit. Reduce concurrency, queue work and retry with backoff.
