DART ONE is a customizable performance-controller project for DJs and video performers. It combines Arduino-based firmware with a browser-based editor, so a built controller can be configured for MIDI, HID, DMX and LED behavior rather than acting only as a generic MIDI keyboard. You can start with a manufacturer kit or build a compatible controller yourself; the board and configuration determine which connections and functions are available.

What DART ONE is—and what it can control

DART ONE began as a maker project published on Arduino Project Hub on October 12, 2017. The project describes uploading the DART universal sketch to an Arduino Uno or Leonardo, then configuring the controller with DART Editor. Its build information includes a PCB route and notes that a breadboard build is also possible. The original project lists an Arduino Uno Rev3, soldering iron, 3D printer and laser cutter among its equipment and tools; these describe the maker-oriented build, not requirements for every configuration. Arduino Project Hub project page.

DART’s editor documentation covers assignments for MIDI, HID, DMX and LED outputs. A button can, for example, trigger DMX while also sending MIDI, and a potentiometer can control MIDI and DMX simultaneously. Those are configurable capabilities, not a promise that every DART ONE build includes or enables all of them. DART Editor documentation.

Capacity depends on what is being counted

DARTMOBO’s FAQ describes the standard system as supporting up to 48 controls, extendable to 56 with Extraplex. Separately, its Editor documentation allows up to 60 editor items in a preset, with two selectable pages. These figures refer to different parts of the system—physical controls, an extension, and software-configured items—so they are not interchangeable counts of controls on every finished unit. The FAQ and documentation describe manufacturer capabilities, not independent test results. DARTMOBO FAQ; DART Editor documentation.

SoundSwitch Control One DMX Lighting Controller
  • DMX Controller and Interface - 1:1 Control for SoundSwitch Software; 2 DMX Universes inputs/outputs with Thru option for install; Dual-USB for seamless DJ transitions
  • Plug and Play with Engine DJ Devices - Connect directly to Denon DJ and Numark hardware running Engine DJ OS to perform with music and lights without a computer
  • Expanded Compatibility - Works with rekordbox DJ software when used with AlphaTheta DJ controllers and with compatible AlphaTheta media players and mixers that support PRO DJ LINK Bridge (a laptop running SoundSwitch required for PRO DJ LINK bridge use)
  • Responsive Tactile Control - Accurate touch strip for light show and light group intensity, smooth encoders for precise parameter adjustments, and customizable RGB performance pads
  • Supports any Music Source - Live Audio BPM detection syncs the light show with external audio sources, such as live bands or any DAW or DJ Software using a computer’s internal mic, USB or live input

The hardware overview also describes support for up to 32 LED outputs, two encoder inputs for high-resolution jogwheel or spinner use, touch sensors, and possible DIN MIDI and DMX output circuitry. Check the exact board and kit configuration: these are not necessarily included in a particular DART ONE purchase. DART hardware overview.

Can you use DART ONE with Traktor?

DARTMOBO says DART works with Traktor and virtually any DJ software that supports MIDI. That establishes the manufacturer’s stated compatibility, but it does not mean Traktor automatically has a ready-made mapping for your particular build. You will need to configure the DART controls and the software’s MIDI assignments for the actions you want. DARTMOBO FAQ.

DOREMiDi MIDI To DMX Controller (MTD-1024) Can Convert MIDI Messages To DMX Messages
  • DMX Output Port, Connect the Device With DMX IN Port Through 3Pin XLR Cable
  • Control DMX Lighting Devices Through MIDI Instrument
  • Control DMX Lighting Devices Through MIDI Software
  • Configuration Data Can be Uploaded as a Backup File for Next Use
  • Configurable MIDI to DMX Messages Via Knob

The same distinction applies to other MIDI-capable DJ applications: the controller can send MIDI, but usable control depends on the preset and the receiving software’s mapping. HID, DMX and LED assignments are additional configuration options; do not assume they are required to use DART as a MIDI controller.

Choose a board before building

DART Sketch is the firmware for DART products and compatible DIY controllers. Its current documentation lists Arduino Uno R3, Leonardo and M0 Metro Express as supported boards. The original Arduino project specifically describes Uno and Leonardo builds. Most notably, DARTMOBO says USB MIDI is immediately available after upload on Leonardo; its documentation does not make the same immediate-availability claim for every listed board. ADJ WMX1 Mk2 Standalone DMX Lighting Controller
  • Standalone DMX Lighting Controller
  • with 37 Backlit Silicone Buttons
  • 4 Rotary Encoders
  • Up to 4 Universe
  • 4 Output Sockets
  • Leonardo: the clearest documented choice when immediate USB MIDI after firmware upload is important.
  • Uno R3: named in the original project and listed as supported by DART Sketch; confirm the USB MIDI setup needed for your intended build.
  • M0 Metro Express: listed as supported by the current DART Sketch page; the original project’s build options do not name it.

Board support does not establish that every board has identical connections or features. Match the board to the physical inputs and outputs you plan to build, then verify the relevant DART documentation and kit configuration.

Configure it with DART Editor

DART Editor is a browser-based configuration tool that uses modern browsers’ MIDI APIs. The controller needs to be connected through MIDI input and output; the editor generally detects ports automatically, with manual port selection available. It can load and save presets as CSV files, offers context-sensitive help, and supports two selectable pages in a preset. Browser MIDI access and a working controller connection are therefore part of setup, not optional editor features. DART Editor documentation.

Monoprice 16-Channel Universal DMX-512 Controller - MIDI Compatible, Control up to 12 Intelligent Lights - Stage Right Series
  • Universal DMX-512 controller
  • Controls 12 Intelligent lights of up to 16 channels
  • 6 sets of chases containing 240 scenes
  • Execute multiple chases simultaneously
  • Beat-activation, tap sync, Auto Run
  1. Upload the appropriate DART Sketch firmware for the compatible board and build.
  2. Connect the controller to the computer and open DART Editor in a modern browser with MIDI access enabled.
  3. Confirm the controller’s MIDI input and output ports are detected; select the ports manually if needed.
  4. Configure the physical controls and any MIDI, HID, DMX or LED behavior required by your setup.
  5. Save or load the preset as a CSV file, then configure the receiving DJ or performance software for the MIDI messages you intend to use.

Build, buy a kit or start with a finished controller?

DARTMOBO identifies several routes: ready-made controllers, DIY kits, custom projects and the DART_MOBO PCB. Its shop lists a DART_ONE kit and extras such as sensors, MIDI ports, IBM buttons, custom spinner logos, a side spinner, pads input and DMX output. The listing confirms these purchase routes, but does not by itself establish current stock, price or regional shipping. Verify the current listing and what is included before choosing a configuration. DARTMOBO shop; DARTMOBO FAQ.

  • Choose a ready-made unit if you want to avoid assembling the electronics and enclosure; confirm its included controls and outputs.
  • Choose a kit or PCB route if you want to assemble a DART-based controller and select compatible extras.
  • Build from documented components if you are comfortable with Arduino firmware, wiring and controller configuration. The original project names Uno Rev3, while Leonardo is useful when the documented immediate USB MIDI behavior fits your needs.

DART ONE is a good fit to investigate when you want a configurable control surface that can bridge DJ software and lighting or video-performance workflows. It is less suitable as a plug-in-and-play promise if you need a specific, preconfigured mapping or a guaranteed set of physical controls: those depend on the chosen build and configuration.
