What “community private VLAN” means here
Private VLAN designs limit Layer 2 communication between endpoint ports while allowing traffic to reach an uplink or other permitted destination. In this context, “community” refers to a group of endpoints that can communicate with one another, distinct from isolated endpoints. The cited Comware 5 example uses the legacy terms isolate-user-vlan and isolated-vlan; it does not provide a complete community-VLAN configuration procedure.
For conceptual context, an HPE 5600 HI guide illustrates community VLAN behavior in a port-isolation design: hosts can reach an Internet-connected device, two selected hosts can exchange video-conference traffic in a shared VLAN, and other Layer 2 traffic between specified hosts is isolated. That example is not a Comware 5 release manual: HPE 5600 HI configuration guide.

The HPE community discussion describes an HP A5500-48G-4SFP HI running software version 5.20.99. Its fragment includes:

It does not establish all required VLAN membership, PVID, endpoint-port, or uplink settings, nor does it establish support across all Comware 5 models. Do not paste it into production without checking the A5500’s matching documentation and the intended traffic design.
Check these design details before configuration
Confirm model and software support
Start with the exact switch family, hardware variant, and software release. The cited example directly identifies only an A5500-48G-4SFP HI on Comware 5.20.99. It is not evidence that every Comware 5 switch supports the same feature or command syntax.

Map endpoint, uplink, and inter-switch ports
Write down which ports connect to endpoints, the gateway or uplink, and other switches. Their roles and VLAN tagging must align with the isolation design. Newer HPE guidance describes host ports associated with secondary VLANs and promiscuous or trunk-promiscuous ports carrying relevant primary and secondary VLANs. This is a useful conceptual checklist, not a substitute for the target Comware 5 manual.
Specify permitted communication
Decide whether endpoints should communicate within a community, be isolated from one another, reach a shared uplink, or communicate through Layer 3. These are separate policy questions. A newer Comware guide describes Layer 3 communication between associated secondary VLANs as a separately configured option; the cited material does not establish that the same feature or syntax applies to the Comware 5 example.

Why newer Comware commands are not interchangeable
The HPE FlexNetwork 5140 HI guide uses a primary/secondary private-VLAN model and private-vlan commands, with host, promiscuous, trunk-promiscuous, and trunk-secondary port roles. It also demonstrates checking associations and port membership with display private-vlan. Those examples are documented for that product family, not verified instructions for Comware 5. The terminology shift matters: the Comware 5 discussion uses isolate-user-vlan and isolated-vlan, while the newer guide describes primary and secondary private VLANs. Do not assume that commands, port behavior, or verification procedures transfer between them.

Configuration and verification checklist
- Identify the target precisely. Record the switch model, software release, and relevant interface types; find a matching official manual.
- Document the traffic policy. Mark which endpoints should share a community, which must be isolated, and which destinations or gateways each group must reach.
- Confirm VLAN and port requirements in the matching manual. Verify the supported legacy commands, membership, tagging, PVID behavior, and any inter-switch requirements rather than inferring them from newer guides.
- Apply changes cautiously. Use a maintenance window and preserve a working configuration and recovery path. The community fragment alone is not sufficient as a deployment recipe.
- Inspect and test on the device. Use the verification commands documented for that exact release, then test permitted and prohibited traffic between endpoints and toward the uplink. The newer guide’s
display private-vlancommand is not confirmed for the Comware 5 target.
Evidence boundary
The available material does not establish a model- and release-matched official Comware 5 procedure covering supported isolate-user-vlan syntax, complete setup, verification commands, and feature limits. HPE’s newer product guides help explain private-VLAN concepts, but they cannot fill that Comware 5 documentation gap.
