Start with the Sonos app’s TV setup, then check that the HDMI cable is firmly connected to the Beam Ultra and the television’s port labeled ARC or eARC. If the app still reports an ARC error, reseat both ends and try another HDMI cable. If TV sound works but Dolby Atmos does not, check the audio format shown in the Sonos app before troubleshooting the TV, source device, service, or content.

Fix an ARC or eARC setup error

Beam Ultra must be set up in the Sonos app before it can play TV audio. Keep the included HDMI cable nearby and follow the app’s instructions. If setup reports an HDMI ARC error, work through these checks in order, retrying the app setup after each change.

  1. Reseat the HDMI cable. Disconnect it from both Beam Ultra and the TV, then reconnect each end firmly.
  2. Use the TV’s ARC/eARC port. A television may have several HDMI ports, but only one may support ARC. Connect the cable to the port labeled ARC or eARC. If you cannot identify it, consult the television’s manual.
  3. Test another HDMI cable if the error continues. Sonos identifies a faulty cable as a possible cause of an ARC setup error and recommends trying a different cable. Beam Ultra includes an HDMI cable, so this is a diagnostic or replacement step—not a required extra purchase.

TV port locations and labels differ by model, so there is no universal port number or menu path to use.

If Beam Ultra is missing from the Sonos app

A device that does not appear in the app presents a discovery problem, which is separate from an ARC-port error. Follow Sonos’s Product not found troubleshooting path to address discovery before continuing TV connection setup.

If TV sound works but Dolby Atmos is missing

First check whether the soundbar is receiving an Atmos signal. In the Sonos app, look at Now Playing for the Atmos badge and the audio format information. If Atmos is not shown, the issue may be with the connection or with another part of the playback chain.

  • Confirm Beam Ultra is connected to the TV’s ARC or eARC port.
  • Play Atmos-capable content through a source device and streaming service that support Atmos.
  • Check that the television and source device support and pass through the relevant audio format.
  • Use Sonos’s guidance on listening to Dolby Atmos on Sonos to understand format requirements.

Sonos says lossless Dolby Atmos using Dolby TrueHD requires eARC. Other Atmos playback also depends on the TV, source device, service, and title; an ARC/eARC connection alone does not guarantee that every source will deliver Atmos.

What if the TV has no ARC port?

If the television lacks ARC, Sonos says you can connect it for audio using the optical audio adapter. This is a limited audio fallback, not an Atmos workaround: optical does not provide the TV-control functions Sonos describes, including CEC and voice control. See Sonos’s Beam setup guidance for connection details.

Restore TV power and volume commands

Beam Ultra’s TV voice commands for power and volume require an HDMI ARC or eARC connection and HDMI-CEC enabled on the television. Menu names and settings vary by TV, so consult its manual for the CEC setting rather than relying on a generic menu path. Sonos explains the requirements in its TV voice-control guidance.
