Roku Streaming Stick 4K is the closest like-for-like alternative if you want another HDMI stick. Google’s current streaming device is the Google TV Streamer (4K), a box rather than a Chromecast dongle, while Apple TV 4K is a premium box option that may suit an Apple-centered setup. The right choice depends on your TV’s HDR support, preferred platform, network connection, storage needs, and the price in your market.
This comparison uses the Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) as its reference point. Amazon lists that generation in its device specifications; newer Fire TV products may have different names and specifications.

How the Fire TV Stick 4K Max compares

Amazon calls it its “most powerful streaming stick with Wi-Fi 6E support and Ambient Experience.” That is Amazon’s product description, not an independent comparison against Roku, Google, or Apple hardware.
Roku Streaming Stick 4K: the closest stick-shaped alternative
Roku’s US Streaming Stick 4K is model 3820R2. It supports 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and what Roku describes as a long-range Wi-Fi receiver. Its voice remote has TV power, volume, and mute controls. Roku also lists compatibility with Apple AirPlay and HomeKit, Google Home, and Alexa. Details are on the Roku Streaming Stick 4K product page.
Because it is an HDMI stick, it is the most direct form-factor substitute for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Roku’s cited page does not state the device’s storage capacity, so there is no supported storage comparison with Amazon’s 16 GB figure. Roku’s US storefront showed $79.99 when accessed in 2026; treat that as an access-time display, not a guaranteed current retail price.

Roku says 4K and HDR output require compatible content and a compatible TV; otherwise, output follows the display’s maximum resolution. The page also advertises “500+ free TV channels” on The Roku Channel. That is Roku’s own channel-count claim, not an independently audited count.

Google’s current comparison device is the Google TV Streamer (4K), a box that connects by HDMI. It is distinct from Chromecast with Google TV HD and 4K, which Google continues to list separately as dongles. The older 4K Chromecast, for example, is listed with 2 GB RAM, 8 GB storage, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Dolby Vision. Google’s device specifications distinguish the products.
For the Google TV Streamer, Google lists up to 4K resolution, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB storage, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and built-in Ethernet. Its technical specifications give Ethernet as 1 Gbps and list Bluetooth 5.1, HDMI 2.1, Android TV OS, Matter, and a Thread Border Router. Google also describes a customizable and findable remote, plus Google Home/Matter hub functions. See Google’s Google TV Streamer overview and its specifications page.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Google’s comparison says the Streamer’s CPU is 22% faster than Chromecast with Google TV (4K). That is Google’s stated comparison, not an independent benchmark. Google listed the device at $99.99 in its US comparison when accessed in 2026; prices and availability vary over time and by market.
Google TV Streamer setup: check the HDMI cable
Google says an HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cable is needed for optimal performance and sells it separately. Check that the cable and TV suit your intended setup rather than assuming a cable is included.

Apple’s technical page does not provide a current price. Compare a live listing for the exact configuration and region: the 64 GB Wi-Fi and 128 GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet models are not interchangeable price references. Apple states that an HDMI cable is required and sold separately.
Apple TV’s integration with Apple devices and services can make it a natural fit for readers already using that ecosystem; that is a platform-fit consideration, not a claim that it is faster or easier to use than the alternatives.

Stick or box
Roku Streaming Stick 4K most closely matches the concealed-behind-the-TV stick format of the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Google TV Streamer and Apple TV 4K are boxes, so consider where they will sit and how you will connect them to the display.
Best Value

HDR, resolution, and audio
All four devices list 4K capability and Dolby Atmos support, but supported HDR formats differ. Roku lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+; Google lists Dolby Vision; Amazon and Apple list Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG. Confirm the formats supported by your TV, receiver or soundbar, and the content you watch. A device’s format list alone does not ensure a particular program will be available in that format.
Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and storage
Amazon lists Wi-Fi 6E and 16 GB storage for the reference Fire TV Stick. Roku identifies long-range Wi-Fi but does not state storage on the cited page. Google lists Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Ethernet, and 32 GB storage for its Streamer. Apple lists Wi-Fi 6 and offers a 64 GB Wi-Fi version or a 128 GB version with Wi-Fi and Ethernet. These are published hardware specifications, not proof of real-world speed or reliability; your network and placement matter.
Remote and smart-home fit
Consider which controls and platforms you already use. Amazon lists its enhanced Alexa remote and Ambient Experience support; Roku lists TV power, volume, and mute controls on its voice remote and compatibility with AirPlay/HomeKit, Google Home, and Alexa. Google lists remote finding and customization, plus Matter and Thread functions. Apple’s 128 GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet configuration includes Thread. These platform features may matter if you plan to use compatible smart-home devices, but they are not required for basic streaming.
Price and included equipment
Prices are regional and change over time. The cited Roku and Google figures are US storefront/comparison displays accessed in 2026, not fixed prices; no current Apple price was captured on its technical specifications page. Compare live local listings and exact model configurations before buying. Google and Apple specify separate HDMI cable purchases; Google calls for an HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cable for optimal performance.
