Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf a website’s font is missing or looks wrong in an AI-generated screenshot, check four things in order: the screenshot renderer’s available fonts, whether the page’s font stylesheet and font file loaded, whether capture waited for the page’s used fonts, and whether the screenshot browser matches your visual reference environment. A screenshot records what that browser rendered—not what the page was intended to render.
Why is my font missing in the screenshot?
A wrong-looking typeface can have several different causes. The screenshot may come from a managed browser without the requested font; the page may have failed to load its font; capture may have happened while fonts or layout were still changing; or the screenshot environment may differ from the browser used as the reference.
Start by identifying the renderer, then inspect the page’s computed style and font requests, and only then investigate readiness or font injection. Do not assume an unspecified AI screenshot tool behaves like Playwright or Cloudflare Browser Run: its browser access and font support depend on that product.
1. Identify the renderer and reproduce the result there
Record the screenshot product or automation library, browser engine and version if available, operating system or container, and whether capture is local or hosted. Open the same page in that same environment if possible. If it looks right on your own computer but not in a hosted screenshot, the environment’s fonts or browser behavior are leading possibilities—not proof that the page’s CSS changed.

Playwright warns that rendering can vary with the host OS, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. For visual comparisons, it recommends generating the baseline and comparison in the same environment. See Playwright’s visual comparison guidance.
2. Check the font the page requests and receives
In the renderer’s browser tools or logs, inspect the affected element’s computed font-family, font-weight, and font-style. Then inspect the stylesheet and corresponding font-file request. Check the family spelling, the @font-face descriptors, the font URL or path, the request’s response status, and whether the supplied file contains the requested weight and style.
A screenshot alone is not enough to identify the cause: a similar fallback can be hard to spot. Compare the computed style and font request, and check face status if the browser exposes it. A browser may request a font stylesheet and then a suitable font file; the stylesheet returned by Google Fonts can also be tailored to the requesting user agent. See Google Fonts’ technical considerations.
Some managed renderers use only fonts installed in their browser environment. Cloudflare documents that Browser Run falls back to a similar supported font when a requested font is absent. That is a documented Cloudflare behavior, not a guarantee about every screenshot service. See Cloudflare Browser Run’s custom-font documentation.

3. Check page readiness and used fonts
First wait for the content you need to appear. If your tool allows JavaScript evaluation, await document.fonts.ready immediately before capturing. MDN describes this promise as resolving after loading and layout operations for the fonts used by the document are complete. It does not mean every declared font was loaded: an unused face may remain unloaded. See MDN’s FontFaceSet documentation.
Treat this as a timing check, not proof that the intended font succeeded. A failed face can leave the page rendering with a fallback, so also verify computed styles and face status where available. Font loading can look different across browsers: Google’s documentation describes blank text during loading in Chrome and Safari and a flash of unstyled text in Firefox.
For Playwright, do not substitute an arbitrary network-idle wait for a font-specific readiness check. Its page API marks networkidle as discouraged for testing and recommends relying on assertions about meaningful page state instead. Wait for the target content, check font state, then capture. See Playwright’s page API.
4. Provide a font to a managed renderer if it permits injection
If the renderer lacks the requested font and supports browser scripting or custom CSS, provide an accessible font file before capture. Cloudflare Browser Run documents adding an @font-face rule with page.addStyleTag, using a CDN-hosted font or Base64-encoded data. Playwright’s page.addStyleTag can add CSS content or link a stylesheet.

Use the family, style, and weight that the page actually requests, and make sure the font URL is accessible from the renderer. After injection, inspect computed style and the rendered result. Do not assume a screenshot product allows scripting or remote font requests; consult its documentation first.
How do I add a custom font to a screenshot renderer?
For a Playwright-controlled page, add an accessible font-face rule before taking the screenshot, then wait for the page’s used fonts and verify the result. This example assumes the font file is reachable from the browser and the page uses the declared family and weight:
await page.addStyleTag({ content: `
@font-face {
font-family: "Brand Sans";
src: url("https://example.com/fonts/brand-sans.woff2") format("woff2");
font-style: normal;
font-weight: 400;
font-display: swap;
}
body {
font-family: "Brand Sans", sans-serif;
}
` });
await page.locator("main").waitFor();
await page.evaluate(() => document.fonts.ready);
await page.screenshot({ path: "page.png", fullPage: true });
Replace the example URL and selector with values that work for your page; ensure the declared family, style, and weight match the font file and the page’s actual use. If your tool does not expose a Playwright page or equivalent injection API, this code does not apply. Cloudflare’s documented approach is specific to Browser Run; use the screenshot product’s own font mechanism where available.
Why does my website look different in the AI screenshot?
Compare the local browser and screenshot environment across these factors. Differences in any one can change typography or the surrounding layout:

- MORE GAMING POWER: Gain the edge with optimizable game settings; Color and image contrast can be adjusted to see scenes more vividly and spot enemies hiding in the dark; Game Mode adjusts any game to fill the screen so you can view every detail²
- KEEP IT EASY ON THE EYES: Care for your eyes and stay comfortable, even during long sessions; Advanced eye comfort technology certified by TÜV reduces eye strain by minimizing blue light and reducing irritating screen flicker²
- INCREASED VERSATILITY: Connect to more; Plug devices straight into your monitor for increased flexibility, making your computing environment even more convenient
- Browser engine and version: Chromium, WebKit, and Firefox need not render identically.
- Operating system and installed fonts: a managed container may not have the same typefaces as your computer.
- Font requests: confirm that both the stylesheet and the required font file load successfully.
- Font face: confirm the requested family, weight, and style exist and are available in the renderer.
- Capture timing: ensure the relevant content and used fonts have settled before capture.
- Font injection support: determine whether the service lets you add CSS or otherwise provide the font.
These checks help distinguish environment differences from a page-level loading failure. They do not establish how an unspecified AI screenshot service manages its browser or fonts; its own documentation is the source for those details.
What if waiting for fonts hangs?
A font-readiness hang may be specific to a browser and automation-library version rather than a general web-font problem. An open Playwright issue reports a Linux WebKit screenshot timeout with Playwright 1.63.0 and bundled WebKit 26.6, while the reporter’s Playwright 1.60.0 control completed. In the reported run, the font set stayed in loading even though an Avenir Next face had errored. The reporter described timing-sensitive results and had not isolated the underlying interaction or the first affected version. This is an incident report, not evidence that Playwright or WebKit generally hangs on fonts. See the Playwright issue.
If your symptom resembles that report, capture the browser engine, automation-library version, operating system or container image, font-face statuses, and errors. Reduce the case to a minimal reproduction and compare versions in the same environment. Skipping the wait may let the screenshot proceed, but it does not establish that the intended font loaded or repair the rendered output.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does document.fonts.ready guarantee my brand font loaded?
No. It resolves when loading and layout operations for fonts used in the current document state are complete; it does not certify that a preferred face succeeded. Check the face status and rendered or computed style.
Should I use Playwright’s networkidle state to wait for fonts?
Not as a font-specific test. Playwright discourages networkidle for testing; wait for meaningful page content, then check font readiness.
